WITCHER SCHOOL DIAGRAMS

GENERAL NOTES:
If you see a red Witcher Symbol marked on a location, explore further to find a chest containing rare (green) weapon and equipment diagrams.  Read documents you find in these areas to receive extra clues.  Collect the diagrams in any order you wish. To upgrade Witcher School gear (Enhanced, Superior, and Mastercrafted), you need to find the corresponding upgrade diagrams.  Note that Crossbows and Viper School Gear cannot be upgraded.  To start the upgrade quests, purchase maps from merchants and blacksmiths:

Adalbert Kermith maps (4 total) = Cat School Gear Upgrades
Edwin Greloff maps (4 total) = Griffin School Gear Upgrades
Ibrahim Savi maps (4 total) = Bear School Gear Upgrades

VIPER SCHOOL GEAR

Recommended:        Level 6

GRIFFIN SCHOOL GEAR

Recommended:        Level 11

Objectives:

  • Investigate the ruined castle (Hindhold) east of Border Post
  • Read Witcher George’s Confession & Balstick’s Letter
  • Open chest to get Diagram: Griffin Steel Sword
  • Investigate the ruined lighthouse (Lornuk) on northwest tip of Velen
  • To access it, dive into the ocean and look for a submerged cave to the east
  • Swim through the drowner-infested cave to emerge in a grotto
  • Climb to the top of the lighthouse, opening chests as you go
  • Read the Crafting Notes and Dobromir’s Journal
  • After ransacking the place, turn the wheel outside to lower the drawbridge
  • Climb the ladder next to the drawbridge to find the witcher gear chest
  • Open chest to get Diagram: Griffin Silver Sword
  • Find Witcher George’s grave in Dragonslayer’s Grotto, northwest of Downwarren
  • Investigate the wraith-filled cavern – use Aard to crack open a weak wall
  • Read Witcher George’s Journal
  • Open chest to get 4 Diagrams: Griffin Armor / Trousers / Gauntlets / Boots

CAT SCHOOL GEAR

Recommended:        Level 13 (Crossbow = Level 29)

Objectives:

  • Investigate the cellar under Drahim Castle
  • Read Prince Adrien’s Journal
  • Open chest to get Diagram: Feline Steel Sword
  • Investigate the ruins of Est Tayiar
  • Read Professor Sigismund Gloger’s Notes
  • Open chest to get Diagram: Feline Silver Sword
  • Investigate the secret cave under Elector’s Square
  • To reach it, follow the western cliff trail starting near the lower docks
  • Use the Eye of Nehaleni (from Keira) to break the magical seal
  • Follow the subterranean passage to a pool – use Aard to break the archway
  • Read the Invoice For A Golem
  • Pass through the golem chamber into an octagonal room with stone statues
  • Read the Mysterious Recipe and Research Notes
  • Turn the stone statues until they all face the center
  • Dive into the center pool when it opens and grab a key from the skeleton
  • Return to the golem chamber and unlock the mage’s lab
  • Kill the mad witcher
  • Read the Laboratory Notebook
  • Open chest to get 4 Diagrams: Feline Armor / Trousers / Gauntlets / Boots
  • Investigate the shipwreck near the Lighthouse – west of Novigrad city
  • Read Mage’s Notes
  • Open chest to get Diagram: Feline Crossbow

BEAR SCHOOL GEAR

Recommended:        Level 15 (Crossbow = Level 29)

Objectives:

  • Investigate the collapsed structure at Ruined Inn
  • Use Aard to push the burnt rafters aside
  • Read Arrest Warrant for Witcher Gerd and Innkeep’s Notes
  • Open chest to get Diagram: Ursine Steel Sword
  • Investigate the ruins of Fort Etnir near Ancient Crypt – north of Rogne
  • Kill the ice elemental and gargoyle
  • Find Witcher Gerd’s skeleton
  • Read Arrest Warrant for Witcher Gerd and Knight Chalmir’s Letter
  • Open chest to get Diagram: Ursine Silver Sword
  • Investigate the ruins of Fort Tuirseach near Yngvar’s Fang
  • The fort is halfway up the mountain, on the right – start at Road to Yngvar’s Fang
  • Ignite torches to keep track of areas explored
  • Descend the spiral stairs on the left and kill wraiths below
  • Read Ballad of Torgeir the Red
  • Examine corpses in the cells until you drop down into a cave
  • Use Aard to unblock the path and proceed into the throne room
  • Read Ballad of Witcher Gerd and Chronicles of Clan Tuirseach
  • Open chest to get 4 Diagrams: Ursine Armor / Trousers / Gauntlets / Boots
  • Investigate the drowner-infested cave near Old Watchtower
  • Find the skeleton on a ledge overlooking the Melusine shrine
  • Read Letter to Ingeborga Kalebsdotter
  • Open chest to get Diagram: Ursine Crossbow

WOLF SCHOOL GEAR – ps4 add-on content

Recommended:        Level 14*
Total Diagrams:          3
Nearest Signposts:      Kaer Morhen / Bastion / Ruined Watchtower

* Though initial Wolf School Gear can be equipped at Level 14, you cannot get the diagrams until returning to Kaer Morhen in Act 2.  Since you’ll be around level 20 at the start of Act 2, the gear will be useless to equip.  Instead, craft basic Wolf School Gear and find all upgrade diagrams to make a powerful set.
