WITCHER CONTRACTS

GENERAL NOTES:
You can start Contracts before talking to the issuer simply by stumbling into areas where a special foe resides.  This method is not ideal as it prevents bartering and may cause you to fail some objectives.

--------------------------------------------------- WHITE ORCHARD ---------------------------------------------------

CONTRACT:  DEVIL BY THE WELL

Recommended:  Level 2
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in White Orchard village

Objectives:

  • Ask Odolan about the contract
  • Go to the Abandoned Village
  • Find evidence of the spirit’s presence using your Witcher Senses
  • Read about noonwraiths in the Bestiary (they appear between noon and 6pm)
  • Find out what binds the noonwraith to the village
  • Read the diary found in the ruined house
  • Follow the drag marks
  • Examine the well
  • Go down into the well and get a bracelet belonging to the dead woman
  • Find a way out of the cave
  • Swim through the tunnel to emerge in a lake
  • Light a fire near the well to destroy the bracelet
  • Defeat the noonwraith
  • Take a trophy
  • Return to Odolan for a reward (if you refuse coin, he gives you an Amethyst instead)
  • OPTIONAL: Visit the herbalist (Tomira) to gain insight into Claer

CONTRACT:  JENNY O’ THE WOODS

Recommended:  Level 10
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in Midcopse

Objectives:

  • Talk to the ealdorman in Midcopse
  • Interrogate the witnesses – optional
  • Search the nearby fields
  • Read the dead girl’s journal
  • Ask the ealdorman about the lovers
  • Find the lovers’ meeting spot
  • Burn Zula’s letter to summon the nightwraith
  • Kill Jenny o’ the Woods
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from the ealdorman

CONTRACT:  THE MERRY WIDOW

Recommended:  Level 10
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in Lindenvale

Objectives:

  • Talk to the gravedigger in Lindenvale
  • Go to the cemetery and defeat all enemies
  • Follow the scent of cadaverine to a hut
  • Inspect the hut using your Witcher Senses
  • Take the skulls
  • Put the skulls in the cemetery and wait for the grave hag to arrive
  • Kill the grave hag
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from the gravedigger

CONTRACT:  MISSING BROTHER

Recommended:  Level 33
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board at Inn of the Crossroads

Objectives:

  • Talk to Bruno at Inn of the Crossroads
  • Find his missing brother in the n/e mine using your Witcher Senses
  • Destroy all of the insectoid eggs – 12 total
  • Kill the arachas
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Bruno – use Axii Lv.3 to get all of it

CONTRACT:  MYSTERIOUS TRACKS

Recommended:  Level 20
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in Lindenvale

Objectives:

  • Talk to the hunter in Lindenvale
  • Follow tracks in the forest
  • Find out where the scent is coming from using your Witcher Senses
  • Find a way into the cave
  • Explore the cave using your Witcher Senses
  • Acquire fiend dung (x1) and crow’s eye (x2) to use as bait
  • Create Chort Lure in the Alchemy menu
  • Pour the bait around the hill – 4 spots
  • Wait inside the cave for the chort to appear
  • Kill the chort
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from the hunter

CONTRACT:  THE MYSTERY OF THE BYWAYS MURDERS

Recommended:  Level 22
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in Oreton

Objectives:

  • Talk to the commander of the Nilfgaardian patrol
  • Travel to Byways and deal with ghouls prowling the village
  • Find the surviving villagers
  • Explore the village using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow the scent of blood into the tunnels
  • Kill the ekimmara (vampire)
  • Take a trophy
  • Talk to Bytomir
  • Report back to the commander for a reward

CONTRACT:  PATROL GONE MISSING

Recommended:  Level 7
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in Nilfgaardian Army Group Camp

Objectives:

  • Talk to the quartermaster
  • Go to the abandoned camp
  • Search the area using your Witcher Senses
  • Kill the wyvern
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from the quartermaster

CONTRACT:  PHANTOM OF THE TRADE ROUTE

Recommended:  Level 23
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in Benek

Objectives:

  • Talk to the refugee in Benek
  • Find the missing caravan
  • Examine the cart and follow scent to a cave
  • Pass through the cave to reach the wyvern nests (or climb up the hill)
  • Destroy two nests
  • Kill the royal wyvern
  • Take a trophy
  • Return to Benek to collect your reward

CONTRACT:  SHRIEKER

Recommended:  Level 8
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in Crow’s Perch

Objectives:

  • Talk to the contract issuer (Chet)
  • Talk to the kid who witnessed the attack – use Axii to calm him
  • Investigate the site of the attack using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow the bloody tracks to the shrieker’s cave
  • Use a bomb to smoke out the shrieker (Samum, Grapeshot, or Dancing Star)
  • Chase down the shrieker when it flies off
  • Kill the shrieker
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Chet (or decline so that he can help his kid)

CONTRACT:  SWAMP THING

Recommended:  Level 12
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board in Downwarren

Objectives:

  • NOTE: Acquire the ‘Eye of Nehaleni’ from Keira before starting this contract
  • Talk to the man gathering peat west of Crookback Orphans
  • Ask Leslav about the fog monster and agree to help find it
  • Head south across the bog to discover the ruined lodge
  • Inspect the area using your Witcher Senses
  • Head east to the next objective area
  • Inspect the area using your Witcher Senses
  • Navigate through fog to arrive at a cave
  • Use the Eye of Nehaleni to remove the magical barrier
  • Follow the illusions (and slay many necrophages) as you search the cave
  • Kill the old foglet
  • Take a trophy
  • Return to Leslav for a reward

CONTRACT:  WOODLAND BEAST

Recommended:  Level 6
How to Trigger:    Read Notice Board near Border Post bridge

Objectives:

  • Talk to the Redanian captain near the bridge leading to Novigrad
  • Examine the site where the transport was attacked using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow the tracks to a renegade Scoia’tael camp
  • Choose how to respond to the elven archer:
  • OPTION A:  Ask to meet the leader (agree to leave your weapons behind)
  • OPTION B:  Kill the elves (loot the camp afterwards)
  • If you elect to meet the Scoia’tael leader, make a choice:
  • OPTION A:  Agree to keep their secret (leave with some nice gifts)
  • OPTION B:  Kill the elves using only your fists (loot the camp)
  • If you spared the elves, report back to the captain and make another choice:
  • OPTION A:  Lie to the captain about finding the elves
  • OPTION B:  Tell the captain the truth (betray the elves)
  • If you killed the elves, simply collect your fee from the captain

CONTRACT:  THE APARIAN PHANTOM

Recommended:  Level 14
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Yantra (a.k.a. Beanston)

Objectives:

  • Go to the Honeyfill Meadworks
  • Ask Meiersdorf about the phantom and agree to help
  • Follow the halfling
  • Look for clues in the area using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow footprints around the lake
  • Follow claw tracks to a ruined structure
  • Examine the locked door at the bottom of the steps
  • Open the basement using the key Holofernes gives you
  • Chase down the fleeing beast
  • Kill the Wild Hunt ice hound
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Meiersdorf

CONTRACT:  THE CREATURE FROM OXENFURT FOREST

Recommended:  Level 35
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Oxenfurt Harbor

Objectives:

  • Talk to Hans in the small mercenary camp s/e of Herbalist’s Hut
  • Explore the ravine south of camp
  • Investigate the blood trail using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow the ravens to a rocky outcrop
  • Wait for the archgriffin to return to its nest after dark
  • Kill the archgriffin
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Hans
  • NOTE:  You get more gold if you read Han’s letter at the nest during the day

CONTRACT:  DEADLY DELIGHTS

Recommended:  Level 15
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Hierarch Square

Objectives:

  • Talk to the temple guard near Hierarch Square
  • Get information from the medic on western dock
  • Examine the crime scene
  • Follow the hoof tracks to Crippled Kate’s brothel
  • Persuade the brothel owner, Madame, to give you info – use Axii Lv.3
  • Follow the scent of the perfume
  • Talk to the nobleman who is acting strangely
  • Find a way to get inside the house (eastern door)
  • Confront the succubus (Lillith) and make a choice:
  • OPTION A:  Kill Lillith in the confined space and take a trophy
  • OPTION B:  Convince Lillith to leave – get a sword plus a trophy
  • Either way, return to the guard to collect your coin

CONTRACT:  DOORS SLAMMING SHUT

Recommended:  Level 24
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Hierarch Square

Objectives:

  • Talk to Kurt Dysart in the Kingfisher Inn
  • Travel to the Moldavie Residence
  • Use Dysart’s key to unlock the front door
  • Search the haunted mansion using your Witcher Senses
  • Investigate the cellar – use Aard to break the wall
  • Explore the underground ruins
  • Read the open journal on the table
  • Find the elemental – use the wall lever to the east
  • Deactivate the barrier – use Aard to push the magical lock off its pedestal
  • Kill the earth elemental
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Kurt Dysart

CONTRACT:  AN ELUSIVE THIEF

Recommended:  Level 13
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Hierarch Square

Objectives:

  • Talk to Sylvester near Tretogor Gate during the day
  • Look for clues in the marketplace using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow the footprints to a house
  • Search the house
  • Read the short letter
  • Find the doppler by following the scent of perfume
  • Confront the doppler (disguised as a guard)
  • Chase him down as he shapeshifts
  • Upon catching the doppler, fight until he surrenders – choose to:
  • OPTION A:  Finish him off and take a trophy
  • OPTION B:  Convince him to leave Novigrad (get a diagram and crowns)
  • Either way, return to Sylvester during the day
  • NOTE:  If you spared the doppler, Sylvester only offers half the reward

CONTRACT:  LORD OF THE WOOD

Recommended:  Level 25
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board at Cunny of the Goose

Objectives:

  • Talk to the halfling (Brean) at Cunny of the Goose
  • Talk to the witnesses
  • Find the woodcutter’s hut where Hotsch is staying
  • Follow wagon tracks to the attack site
  • Investigate the attack site using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow clues until you realize the attacker was a leshen
  • Find the correct totem – one of 4 marked spots
  • Destroy the totem to lure the leshen out
  • Kill the leshen (weak to fire)
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Brean

CONTRACT:  THE OXENFURT DRUNK

Recommended:  Level 26
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Oxenfurt Harbor

Objectives:

  • Talk to the Redanian officer in Oxenfurt Harbor
  • Talk to the medic – force him to give you a key to the morgue
  • Look over the victims’ bodies
  • Talk to witnesses in the tavern – use Axii
  • Examine the site of the crime
  • Return to the tavern and talk to the barkeep (Stjepan)
  • Order drinks until darkness falls
  • Stumble outside and use your Witcher Senses to track down the katakan (vampire)
  • Upon reaching the alley, the vampire appears
  • Chase Gael to his hideout by the river
  • Climb the ladder to reach the balcony and drop down
  • Kill the vampire
  • Take a trophy
  • Loot a key off Gael’s corpse to escape the hideout
  • Collect your reward from the Redanian officer

CONTRACT:  THE WHITE LADY

Recommended:  Level 16
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board between Portside & Glory Gate

Objectives:

  • Talk to the widow (Helma) in Farcorners - south of Glory Gate
  • Find the victims’ bodies in the field
  • Investigate the campsite where they were attacked
  • Follow the tracks to Drahim Castle
  • Explore the ruined tower using your Witcher Senses
  • Discover the last body in the cellar
  • Return to Farcorners and ask the widow about the noonwraith
  • Take the dagger she gives you back to the campsite
  • Toss the dagger into the flames to lure the noonwraith out
  • Kill the noonwraith (during the day)
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Helma

--------------------------------------------------- SKELLIGE ISLES ---------------------------------------------------

CONTRACT:  DRAGON

Recommended:  Level 28
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Fyresdal (Ard Skellige)

Objectives:

  • Talk to the village elder in Fyresdal
  • Talk to the victims’ mother
  • Examine the victims’ bodies using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow tracks to the site of the attack
  • Ask the village elder about bait
  • Use Axii to guide the sheep to the forktail’s nest
  • Kill the forktail
  • Take a trophy
  • Return the village elder
  • Choose how to respond when he asks how fierce the creature was:
  • OPTION A:  To get the full reward, lie - pretend you killed a dragon
  • OPTION B:  To get half the sum, tell the truth – fair price for killing a forktail

CONTRACT:  HERE COMES THE GROOM

Recommended:  Level 19
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Svorlag (Spikeroog)

Objectives:

  • Ask Kevan about the contract
  • Talk to Britt
  • Explore the caves Britt mentioned
  • Examine Nils’ body
  • Kill the flying banshee, Melusine
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Kevan
  • Tell Britt what happened to Nils to get an extra reward

CONTRACT:  MISSING SON

Recommended:  Level 29
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Rannvaig (Ard Skellige)

Objectives:

  • Talk to Odhen in Rannvaig
  • Explore the castle ruins using your Witcher Senses
  • Battle the fiend (relict) until it blinds you and vanishes
  • Find the fiend’s lair using your Witcher Senses
  • Kill the fiend
  • Take a trophy
  • Inform Odhen of his son’s death and collect your reward

CONTRACT:  MUIRE D’YAEBLEN

Recommended:  Level 18
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Kaer Trolde Harbor (Ard Skellige)

Objectives:

  • Talk to the shipbuilder near the bay
  • Ask witnesses about the drowner attack - optional
  • Investigate the place where the drowners were seen using your Witcher Senses
  • Investigate the cave further down the coast
  • Prepare a pheromone potion to hide your scent
  • Drink the potion and hide in the water hag’s lair
  • Kill the water hag when it returns
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from the shipbuilder

CONTRACT:  THE PHANTOM OF ELDBERG

Recommended:  Level 17
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Arinbjorn (Ard Skellige)

Objectives:

  • Talk to Jorund in Arinbjorn’s tavern
  • Ask him about the two men who insulted you when you entered
  • Agree to investigate the cursed isle
  • Head towards Eldberg Lighthouse, either on foot or by boat
  • Explore the cabin to find Mikkjal
  • Ask him about the curse
  • Fight wraiths and harpies as you approach the lighthouse
  • Enter the lighthouse to find evidence against Mikkjal - recommended
  • Ask Mikkjal about the penitent (specter)
  • Defend Mikkjal from the penitent until he re-lights the brazier
  • Kill the penitent
  • Take a trophy
  • Collect your reward from Jorund
  • As you leave, the angry men you met earlier pick a fight
  • The secondary quest “Stranger in a Strange Land” automatically begins

CONTRACT:  STRANGE BEAST (a.k.a. WAYLAID TRANSPORT)

Recommended:  Level 16
How to Trigger:    Check the Notice Board in Larvik (Hindarsfjall)

Objectives:

  • Talk to the village elder (Thorleif) in Larvik
  • Talk to the warriors who survived
  • Find the ambush site
  • Investigate the site using your Witcher Senses
  • Follow the tracks to a nekker cave
  • Explore the toxic cave
  • Kill the nekkers in their nest to draw out their leader
  • Kill the pack leader, along with any helpers it summons
  • Take a trophy
  • Return to Thorleif for your reward
