TRINITY SITE

After selecting a name for the Flame Champion and importing data from previous Suikoden II games you may have played, you’ll see the Trinity Sight System. Here, you are introduced to the 3 main characters in Suikoden III: Hugo, Chris, and Geddoe. Initially selecting each of their names allows you to preview where they will begin the story. Afterwards, choose which perspective to follow first by selecting their name again. Note that each character has 3 chapters to play through before reaching the last 2 common chapters. Thomas’ chapters are entirely optional. His flame will be lit once certain criteria is met during the course of the game. This walkthrough is based on the following order, but feel free to select another order and just skip down to the applicable section:

Hugo 1
Chris 1
Geddoe 1
Thomas 1
Hugo 2
Chris 2
Geddoe 2
Thomas 2
Chris 3
Hugo 3
Geddoe 3
Chapter 4
Chapter 5

HUGO 1 – KARAYA VILLAGE

A cutscene introduces you to Hugo, Lulu, and Sgt. Joe - Grasslanders who comprise your initial party. Select a formation then explore the village. You’ll find a Supply Shop (to buy potions and accessories), a Blacksmith (to upgrade weapons), a Defensive Gear seller (to buy armor), the Inn (to rest and save your game) and a Bujutsu Teacher (to improve your fighting skills). Talk to everyone you see. Some will offer items. Others you meet (those with names, specifically) lay important groundwork for recruiting later on (see Extras page for details). When ready, head over to Jimba’s hut on the left. After receiving the Letter to Zexen, return to Lucia’s hut near the village cook and choose to rest.

When the group gathers in the morning, Fubar (a griffon) joins the party. If ready to leave, head out of town. Jimba stops the group and gives them another item to deliver to Vinay del Zexay, a Pentacle. Some new paths open up on the World Map after this event. Feel free to detour but eventually head to Plain Amur.

HUGO 1 – PLAIN AMUR-NORTH / DUCK VILLAGE (OPTIONAL)

The Plain Amur-North detour is valuable to gain experience and is the only route to take if you want to visit Duck Village. There’s nothing very exciting happening in Duck Village at the moment, but you may want to buy some lottery tickets while there. It takes about 20 minutes for the lottery to turn over, so fight some battles at Plain Amur-North or tour the village to pass the time. Before viewing the lottery results, save your game at the Inn. That way, if the tickets are duds, you can reset and try again.

HUGO 1 – PLAIN AMUR

Travel west towards the Brass Castle and use the Save Point on the second screen if you wish.

HUGO 1 – BRASS CASTLE

Watch several cutscenes while traveling east to west through the castle grounds. Visit the Trader on the bridge then continue across until you reach the eastern courtyard. There, you’ll find a Supply Shop, Defensive Gear vendor and Blacksmith. When ready, enter the castle and watch a cutscene involving Chris. When she identifies Hugo as a Karayan, respond however you like. After Chris leaves, explore the castle’s interior.

On the right side of the hall, there’s a Dining Room and Kitchen. On the left, is a Dormitory where you can rest and save your game. Ascend the stairs next to the Dorm to visit the Knight’s Parlor and Chris’ Quarters. Continue down the far set of stairs to reach the Training Center. Speak to the Bujutsu Teacher behind the desk to upgrade your combat skills or learn new ones. Exit through the door on the left to return to the main hall. Continue forward to reach the western courtyard.

Once there, you’ll find a Rune Sage and a Tutor, who can increase your Magic Skills or teach you new ones. Inside the Tutor’s Shop is a Reading Room. Conduct whatever business you can afford, then exit to the World Map.

HUGO 1 – ZEXEN FOREST

Watch a cutscene then head west through the forest until you reach an intersection. Both roads lead to the same spot, but you may want to explore each in order to gain more experience. Along the way, look for herbs that have a sparkle around them, which denote they’re ripe for picking. Herbs regenerate over time, so note their locations for future use.

After exploring the loop, continue forward until you bump into Fred and his companion Rico. When asked if you know anything about evil knights in the area, answer as you see fit. Once Fred leaves, continue forward until you reach a spot where you can veer southeast. Take the path to its end and examine the corpse there to receive an item. These items regenerate over time, so check back occasionally to see if anything new has been left. Return to the main path and continue heading west until you reach the World Map. Go to Vinay del Zexay.

HUGO 1 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY

Fubar must wait outside while the rest of the party enters the Zexen capitol. Use the Save Point on the right then go inside. After watching another cutscene, head down the southwestern ramp and visit Chris’ cottage on the left. Give the Pentacle to the butler. When offered a reward, answer however your conscience dictates. Exit and continue south towards the dock. Along the way, explore the thin alley on the right. Climb up the ladders and examine the window on top. Once you learn the password, use it to gain entry. For now, go to the Council building in the center of town.

Approach the marshal guarding the door to learn that you cannot meet with anyone there for 2-3 days. To pass the time, either pay to sleep at the Inn for 3 nights or use the time to explore the city. To the south, you’ll find a Defensive Gear shop, a Trader (to purchase goods that you can sell in other towns at a profit), an Appraiser (to identify unknown items you collect throughout the game), and a Rune Sage (to purchase or affix magical orbs). Up the center path, there’s a Blacksmith, a Supply shop, and a Lottery Ticket seller.

If you visit the marketplace next to the Inn, you’ll trigger a scene between Melville and Guillaume. After Melville runs off, head west to the Rune Shop near the docks. Approach the little girl wearing a red outfit outside the shop to trigger a cutscene. After Alanis and her friend Elliot finish talking, follow them into the thin alley you visited earlier. Climb up the ladders and make your way over to the window. When asked for the password, choose “The Three Knights of Zexen.” Once Melville shows up, select the three dialogue options one at a time from top to bottom.

Exit the Hideaway and go back to the city entrance. Approach the three kids standing there then set up your formation. Exit to the World Map. A new area has opened up, the North Cavern.

HUGO 1 – NORTH CAVERN

Watch the dialogue scene then head inside the cave. Continue straight through until you reach a clearing where the party rests for the evening (thus replenishing health). In the morning, follow the long, spiral path up through the next tunnel. Watch another dialogue scene and when given a choice, pick the top answer (“It’s better we go in, too”). Continue down a second spiral pathway. At the bottom, you’ll fight a couple of bandits. Once defeated, head into the tunnel. Use the Save Point midway then keep going forward.

Watch another scene then fight 4 more bandits. Concentrate on taking them down one at a time. When the battle is over, Melville will duel Guillaume. There’s no way to win, so pick whatever choices you like and the duel will end shortly. After watching a few more scenes, you’ll end up outside the North Cavern. Btw, there’s usually a Treasure Boss at the very end of the cavern (where you confronted Guillaume) but there isn’t one in this chapter. Return to Vinay del Zexay.

HUGO 1 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY

Enter the city to trigger a cutscene with the kids. When finished, you’ll be outside the Inn. Rest up there then return to the Council building and meet with the official. You can choose to argue with him, even though you’ll eventually have to turn over the Letter to Zexen. When the meeting ends, head back to the Inn.

Watch the cutscene then head west. You’ll have to fight off a few Zexen Knights while escaping town. Just heal up in between and you’ll be fine. At the front gate, Leo and Percival confront the group. When given a choice, select the 2nd option (“There’s no reason to believe you”) to avoid a fight or pick the 1st option to take on Leo and the gang. If you opt to fight, just hang in there until the party receives help and manages to escape.

Fubar rejoins the party outside the city walls. Make your way back to Brass Castle.

HUGO 1 – BRASS CASTLE

Head east towards the castle to trigger a cutscene. When it finishes, enter the castle. After being chased by Leo and Co., the party ends up in an underground passage. Follow the path straight out to the other side while fighting off creatures. Fubar rejoins the group on the eastern bridge. Talk to the Trader there and use the Save Point if you wish before returning to the World Map.

Head east through Plain Amur. On the second screen, watch a brief dialogue scene then continue moving east towards Karaya Village.

HUGO 1 – KARAYA VILLAGE

Follow Lulu up the path towards the village entrance and watch an unfortunate scene involving Chris. When prompted for a response, select “You’ll pay dearly!” to initiate a duel with Chris. Choosing the other option (“Why?!”) just results in an angry conversation. If you choose to duel, you’ll get 3 rounds. Whether you win, lose, or draw, watch the scene that follows. When it ends, you’ll return to the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 1 (Chris)

Having concluded Hugo’s first chapter, you have the option to select Chris or Geddoe’s first chapters, or continue with Hugo’s story. As before, the choice is yours.

CHRIS 1 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY

A cutscene introduces you to Chris and her loyal companion, Louis, moments before meeting with the Zexen Council. When the Council asks if it can depend on you to carry out their orders, answer as you wish. Afterwards, Borus and Salome escort Chris to her cottage. Once they leave, enter the cottage and choose to rest.

In the morning, the knights gather for the journey ahead. When the group teases Chris, answer as you wish. Afterwards, you’ll be outside the city gates. I suggest returning to Vinay del Zexay to visit the Guild Hall (which is available only to Chris’ party) and to make any other preparations before leaving on your journey. Note that Chris will not play the Lottery until chapter 3, so spend your money wisely until then.

To get to the Guild Hall, enter the Council building. You’ll see doors on either side of the grand staircase. The one on the right leads to a Supply Shop, Defensive Gear vendor, and Rune Sage. The door on the left leads to a courtyard where a Bujutsu Teacher is training Knights. After using his services, enter the small buildings in the back to visit the Tutor or rest at the Inn. When ready, leave Vinay del Zexay and head through Zexen Forest.

CHRIS 1 – ZEXEN FOREST

Chris does not pillage corpses until Chapter 3 so don’t expect to find anything in the cul-de-sac on the right. Pick some herbs (if available) as you head through the forest towards Brass Castle. Along the way, you may stumble upon the Grand Holly, a rare foe that rewards you with good experience if defeated. Expect to encounter rare enemies such as this in each area you visit. The odds of bumping into them are about 15% though more time spent in any given area will increase the odds considerably.

CHRIS 1 – BRASS CASTLE

Head across the bridge and go through the western courtyard to the main castle. Once inside, a cutscene takes over and the other party members leave. When you regain control of Chris, go downstairs. The door to the right of the Bujutsu Teacher is Chris’ Warehouse. Use it to store extra items that aren’t necessary to carry along with the party. When ready, enter the eastern courtyard to initiate a scene with Dupa, one of the Grassland leaders. Accept his offer then return to the castle.

Go upstairs to the Knight’s Parlor and speak with Salome to form a party if you wish to shop for them. Otherwise, speak with Louis in the quarters next door and choose to rest. Upon waking, the party automatically meets with Clan emissaries outside the castle.

CHRIS 1 – PLAIN AMUR (BATTLE SITE)

Immediately after the cutscene, a strategic battle ensues. A screen will appear showing current positions of all units in the area (6 total). The conditions for victory are to stay alive for an unknown amount of turns while making sure Chris’ unit is not defeated. Use the O button to see which paths are available to you at the moment.

After selecting commands for each of your 4 units, a scenario plays out – then it’s the enemy’s turn. During this phase, I suggest you move your units north (onto Chris’ spot) and simply defend. Once you successfully complete the conditions for victory, a new set of conditions appears: Stay alive and escape to the east. As before, Chris’ unit must not be defeated. During this phase, have one of your units take out the Karayans that are blocking the exit, then navigate Chris’ unit towards the new, empty spot in the east while the rest of your units defend ground. Once Chris’ unit (actually any one of your units) safely passes through, the battle ends.

There’s a thing called the “Level 99 trick” that comes into play right here. I will not outline it in this walkthrough, but if you’re interested in achieving it, do not save your game after this battle. Go visit a gaming site online to learn what to do next. For all other players, use the nearby Save Point then head further east to Karaya Village.

CHRIS 1 – KARAYA VILLAGE

The other party members move ahead, leaving Chris alone with Louis. Follow the path up to the village until a cutscene takes over. Afterwards, fight your way through to the back of the village. If successful, the party automatically returns to Brass Castle.

CHRIS 1 – BRASS CASTLE

Watch a cutscene then go next door to the Knight’s Parlor and speak with your team. Afterwards, head downstairs to the main hall. Speak with Leo & Percival near the rear exit. Continue out to the western courtyard and talk to Borus, who will ask if you’re ready to leave. If so, head west onto the World Map.

CHRIS 1 – ZEXEN FOREST

Take the path back to Vinay del Zexay. Along the way, you’ll bump into Fred and his companion, Rico. Once they depart, continue forward to VDZ.

CHRIS 1 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY

After a brief conversation, enter the city. Once inside, go to the Council building in the center of town. When the cutscene ends, return to Chris’ cottage and rest.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 1 (Geddoe)

As before, select the storyline you want to follow next.

GEDDOE 1 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY

A cutscene introduces you to Ace, Joker, Queen, and Jacques – Harmonian mercenaries who work under Geddoe. When given the option to start a new mission, select “It’s necessary, right?” then leave the room and go downstairs. After strategizing with your comrades, explore the city. Speak with the townsfolk as you pass by. Some will offer you items (unless you already took them in earlier chapters). When ready, head north to exit the city.

GEDDOE 1 – ZEXEN FOREST

Fight a few random battles as you head through the forest. On the next screen, veer to your right. Take the path to its end and examine the corpse there to receive an item (may not have regenerated yet). Return to the main path and continue forward until you bump into Fred. When asked if you know anything about a warrior roaming the Grasslands, answer as you see fit.

At the fork in the road, choose to head north or east. Both roads lead to the same spot, but you may want to explore each in order to gain more experience. Along the way, look for herbs that have a sparkle around them, which denote they’re ripe for picking. After exploring the loop, continue east until you reach the World Map. Two new routes have opened up. To advance the story, go to Great Hollow. If you want to do some shopping first, visit Brass Castle.

GEDDOE 1 – BRASS CASTLE (OPTIONAL)

Use the Save Point next to the bridge then continue across until you reach the front gate. Shop inside the western courtyard then enter the castle. Rest at the Dormitory and/or visit the Bujutsu Teacher if you wish, then continue forward to reach the eastern courtyard. Once there, visit the Supply Shop, Defensive Gear vendor and Blacksmith. Head further east to visit the Trader, however the path beyond is currently unavailable, so backtrack through the castle and exit on the western side.

Continue to Yaza Plain and follow the path north. When you reach the World Map, select Great Hollow.

GEDDOE 1 – GREAT HOLLOW

After Geddoe introduces himself to Shiba, a Lizard Clan warrior, enter the Great Hollow. Follow Shiba upstairs to the Chief’s Room. Watch the cutscene then explore the town. To the left of the Chief’s Room, you’ll find a Bujutsu Teacher and to the right, a Trader. Downstairs, head left to rest at the Inn and/or visit the Supply Shop. On the right side, there’s a Defensive Gear seller and Blacksmith. Remember to speak to the locals to receive a few items. Go to the southeast corner of town to prompt a cutscene. Afterward, follow the group of Lizard Clan warriors into the cave.

Continue down the path until you reach the Lizard Clan warriors, who engage you in battle. Once they receive enough damage, Shiba arrives and temporarily joins your party. Change your formation if wish then continue heading north through the cave (you may want to save at the Inn first). Towards the end of the path, a clan member alerts the group to some activity happening outside. When you regain control of Geddoe, follow the clan member through the doorway on the far left. Continue forward until you reach the outside.

Once there, the party must fight a group of Zexen Knights and their female leader (Chris). It is not essential that you beat them - in fact it’s unlikely, as the leader casts powerful spells that either heal her entire party or wipe out yours in a single shot. It’s all a matter of luck, as replaying the battle will generate a new sequence of spells, perhaps one that makes winning possible. No great rewards are at stake here, so just have fun.

Whatever the outcome is, return to Great Hollow and go up to the Chief’s Room to trigger another cutscene. Afterwards, new paths become available on the World Map. Select the one going to Plain Amur.

Head east along the trail until you reach a Save Point. Use it then continue further east toward Karaya Village.

GEDDOE 1 – KARAYA VILLAGE / PLAIN AMUR

Upon your arrival, a battle ensues. Take out Aila and the 4 swordsmen within 3 turns to get an experience bonus or just cause enough damage until the fight ends. Afterwards, enter the village. From left to right you’ll find Luce’s house, the Inn, a Supply Shop, a Blacksmith, and a Bujutsu Teacher who’s standing across from the cook. When you approach Lucia’s house, a cutscene occurs which automatically splits up the party. Taking control of only Ace and Joker, head down to the village entrance. After the cutscene, follow Aila to Plain Amur.

Take a left past the Save Point and approach Aila to prompt a series of cutscenes involving Geddoe in the village and Ace on the plains. Once Aila joins Ace’s party, head east. I highly recommend using the Save Point on the Plains before returning to Karaya Village.

Now, using only Geddoe and Queen, choose to either engage the powerful Borus in battle (“I have an inkling”) or leave him alone (“We shouldn’t get involved’). If you choose to fight him, a good strategy is to have Queen use her Ripple spell to poison the enemies then act as healer while Geddoe does the heavy hitting, assuming they are paired up. Alternately, have Queen and Geddoe work independently, with Queen fighting up close while Geddoe casts his most powerful Lightning spells from afar. Winning this battle gains both a lot of experience points and some New Chain Mail, so I suggest you take the time to try.

Upon leaving Borus, the party regroups and Aila becomes a permanent member. When prompted, choose to “head to Caleria.” Select a formation then go to the World Map where several new areas have opened. If you are a story purist, do not visit Lake Castle during Geddoe’s 1st chapter. The advantage of going there now is that Geddoe will be able to start recruiting people (see the Extras page for recruiting details). With this in mind, optional places to visit are detailed below, but in order to make the story progress, choose the Mountain Path and skip down to that section.

GEDDOE 1 – LAKE CASTLE (OPTIONAL)

Upon arriving at Lake Castle, the party meets Thomas, who asks that you help bring free trade to the area (meaning Geddoe can now recruit people). When you regain control of Geddoe, explore the estate. In front of the castle, you’ll find an Inn, a Lottery Ticket seller, and a Fortune Teller who works out of his tent. Go down the stairs on the left to find Juan, a Bujutsu Teacher, lounging outside his shop. Further north, you’ll find a pig farmer. After exploring the outside, enter the castle.

There’s a Save Point to the left of the stairs and to the right, a passage leading down to the basement levels. Upstairs, visit Eike in the library on the right. Give him any Old Books you’ve collected and he’ll allow you to read some of the volumes. If you’ve collected any Antiques, Paintings, or Figurines hang them on walls, place them on tables, or display them the Gallery. Visit Muto in the basement to store excess items in his Warehouse, a service that is available to all groups who visit the castle.

When you’re finished touring the estate, go back to the front entrance to prompt a scene involving Jacques, who rejoins the party. A pedestal lights up at the Trinity Site, with a suggestion to select Thomas’ story the next time you’re there. Afterwards, return to the World Map. You can recruit characters in Mt. Hei-Tou, Vinay del Zexay, Brass Castle, and Great Hollow right away or wait until these events naturally occur within the storyline.

GEDDOE 1 – MT. HEI-TOU (OPTIONAL)

Follow the riverbank east until you reach an intersection then take the northern route. On the next screen, there’ll be a fork in the road. The western path leads to a corpse that you can loot. If you visited Lake Castle before coming here, you’ll also see an orange dog hiding in the grass on the left. Approach the dog and choose to “Adopt him” so that Koroku joins the 108 Stars. Afterwards, backtrack to the intersection and follow the other path north. Loot another corpse then continue forward to the next screen.

If you feel confident, approach the Blue Mantrix to engage in battle. Use your most powerful skills and spells to defeat it. Afterwards, you’ll receive a hefty amount of cash and a treasure chest will appear. Note that Treasure Bosses and their chests (containing new items) regenerate after some time has passed so take everything you want from it now, then head south, back to the riverfront.

Once there, continue east until you reach a save Point. Use it then follow the northeastern path to another corpse. Loot it for a Yellow Kennel then return to the main road. Going further east takes you to a dead end, so head west back to the World Map.

GEDDOE 1 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY (OPTIONAL)

When you enter Vinay del Zexay, you’ll see a man chasing a little girl. Ignore him and don’t go near the front of the Council building. Instead, head down to the docks and enter the Defensive Gear Shop. Speak to Dominic, the clerk. When he asks if you know art, pick the 1st option to agree with him. Buy his Mole Armor and he’ll join the 108 Stars. After recruiting Dominic, see if the Trader has a Deer Antler for sale. If he does, buy it then exit to the World Map.

GEDDOE 1 – BRASS CASTLE (OPTIONAL)

Enter the western side of Brass Castle. Once there, head east across the bridge until you spot a guy holding a parrot near the castle gate. His name is Scott and he’s a Trader who is looking for Deer Antlers. When given dialogue choices, pick the 1st option each time until he asks if you’ll sell your Deer Antlers. Agree to the sale and he’ll join the 108 Stars. If you don’t have any Deer Antlers yet, just return to him when you do.

Continue through the gate to the western courtyard and enter the Rune Shop. Speak to Jeane behind the counter. When given a dialogue choice, pick the 1st option and she’ll join the 108 Stars. Next, visit the Tutor’s shop and enter the adjoining reading room to find Ernie, who is standing on the left. Answer 5 random questions within the given timeframe and she’ll join the 108 Stars. If you miss any the first time, just try again.

Since Geddoe cannot enter the castle interior right now, go back to the World Map and travel around to the eastern side. Once there, enter the eastern courtyard and speak to Belle, the little girl who is banging on the barrel. If you have a Screw in your inventory, give it to her. After receiving the item, both Belle and her sidekick (Gadget Z) will join the 108 Stars.

GEDDOE 1 – GREAT HOLLOW (OPTIONAL)

Enter Great Hollow and speak with a patron in the Trader’s shop to get the Iron Hammer. Bring it to Peggi, the blacksmith. Ask her to sharpen your weapon and when prompted, say, “This will come in handy.” Once Peggi receives the Iron Hammer, she’ll join the 108 Stars.

Go into the southeastern cave and follow it until you hear some banging. Approach the dwarf who is digging there. When a lizard guard approaches and asks what Twaikin is doing, answer “Nothing” to recruit him. When you’re ready to advance the story, retrace your steps to get to the Mountain Path.

GEDDOE 1 – MOUNTAIN PATH

Use the Save Point on the right then travel north until you reach an intersection. Take the eastern path to its end where you’ll find some herbs that may be ripe. Return to the intersection and continue north until you reach another intersection. Take the northern path further if you want to pluck another herb, otherwise head east.

Continue past the waterfalls until you reach a Save Point. Prepare the party for battle before rounding the bend, as you’re about to face a Treasure Boss. The fight is mandatory in order to clear the path, but also rewards you with great wealth and treasure. Just blast away at it with your most powerful skills and magic, while the weaker members act as healers. Take out the heads first if you can, as they have the ability to heal (blue) and cast fire storms (red). Once defeated, rummage through the treasure chest and take what you want. Note that this boss (or another of similar strength) will regenerate after a certain amount of time has passed, as will the treasure it guards, so don’t leave items behind for very long if you think you’ll want them later on.

After beating the Twin Head Snake, head south (you can explore the northern path to level up some more and scour a corpse, but the road to Le Buque is off limits right now). Grab some herbs along the way as you wind your way down to Caleria.

GEDDOE 1 – CALERIA

After watching a cutscene, explore the town. There’s an Inn on the right (you’ll find Nadir in the upstairs guestroom, but you can’t recruit him yet). On the left side, you’ll find a Blacksmith, Defensive Gear shop, a Rune Sage, Supply vendor, and Trader further up. If you visited Lake Castle before coming here, speak to Mike inside the Trader’s store. He will join the 108 Stars if you win at least 20,000 potch in a card game called Kabu. Ask him to explain the rules and give it a shot if you have the cash. Afterwards, pass through the archway in the center of town.

Entering the upper part of Caleria prompts Ace to leave the party temporarily. Visit the Bujutsu Teacher and Warehouse keeper while up there. The Warehouse allows Geddoe to store extra items that aren’t necessary to retain in the party’s inventory while traveling. Afterwards, return to the Inn where you’ll meet a rival mercenary squad. When prompted, respond to Duke however you see fit. Once they leave, you’ll be taken back to the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 1 (Thomas)

If you visited Lake Castle during Geddoe’s first chapter, you’ll see Thomas’ pedestal lit up at the Trinity Site. Thomas’ chapters are optional, meaning you can still get all 108 Stars of Destiny if you skip his story entirely. If you decide to play him, either do it right after Geddoe’s chapter 1 (for the least amount of spoilers) or after all others (to give Thomas a greater financial advantage at the start). I’ve elected to play his chapter next, but feel free to choose another order.

THOMAS 1 – LAKE CASTLE

When you take control of Thomas, walk forward and greet Cecile, the castle guard. Follow her inside the manor and watch a cutscene introducing Sebastian, Eike, Muto and Martha. In the morning, leave Thomas’ bedroom and do some exploring. Upstairs on the left, you’ll find a couple of guestrooms and a Gallery (it will be empty, unless you chose to play Thomas after completing Chris’ 3rd chapter. If so, grab all the vases, urns and paintings that are on display in order to sell them). On the right, you’ll find the Library. Talk to Eike inside then go downstairs.

After speaking with Sebastian, use the Save Point to the left of the staircase. On this floor, you’ll find a couple more guestrooms, a Meeting Room, the Dinner Theatre, and a staircase leading down to the lower parts of the castle. Descend the stairs to find an unusable elevator door and Muto, who is standing next to the Warehouse. Speak to him to store extra items there. Enter the passage next to Muto, which appears to be a graveyard. Go through the hole in back to reach an abandoned ship. After exploring it, return to Muto’s area. Another flight of stairs takes you further down into the castle where you’ll find a storage room and some empty cells. Use the back door here to get outside.

Follow the grassy path east until you reach the Blacksmith’s shop. Speak to Juan who is napping there. Continue past him to a corral, where a man with 2 pigs is standing. Backtrack to Juan’s area and go up the stone stairs next to him. You’ll be back at the estate entrance. There’s an Inn to the right, which is currently empty. Speak to Martha at the Lottery ticket booth and visit Piccolo in the tent next to her. If you want tips on how to advance the story, pay 100 potch for his ACME prediction. Otherwise, talk to Cecile at the entrance. Watch a flashback then return to the castle.

Inside, Sebastian gives Thomas the Letter to Knights. After Cecile joins your party, exit Lake Castle and get to the World Map. Travel to the Yaza Plain.

THOMAS 1 – YAZA PLAIN

Head west along the path. If you encounter any monsters, use Thomas & Cecile’s Best Effort combo attack or let Cecile do the fighting while Thomas heals, as both have very low HP at this point and can die rather easily. Continue heading west on the next screen until you reach the intersection, then head south towards Brass Castle.

THOMAS 1 – BRASS CASTLE

Cross the bridge and enter the western courtyard. Once there, watch a cutscene then continue towards the castle until you bump into Leo, who suggests giving the letter to Salome. Enter the castle and speak to Roland who is standing on the left. Go upstairs to prompt a scene involving Chris, then find Salome in the Knight’s Parlor. After presenting the Letter to Knights, leave the castle (unless you want to shop) and return to the World Map. Head northwest to get back to Lake Castle.

THOMAS 1 – LAKE CASTLE

Upon your return, Cecile leaves the party. Enter the castle and go upstairs to Thomas’ room to rest. The next morning, go outside to prompt a scene with a villager whose son is missing. Once Cecile and Piccolo join you, go inside the castle and examine the broken elevator door on the right to prompt a short dialogue scene. Go upstairs and enter the Library to find that Eiko is missing, too. Leave the castle and go to the Inn to prompt another short dialogue scene. Afterwards, visit Juan at the Blacksmith’s house. If he’s not there yet, take a nap in Thomas’ bedroom and return the next morning. Once Juan joins the party, leave Lake Castle and head to Yaza Plain.

Note: While Juan is in your party, go to the Skills menu and select his Bujutsu Teacher skill to do all of the things you normally would when visiting a Bujutsu Teacher. Juan will always be asleep at the beginning of battle. The good news is, once he wakes up, he’ll be in berserk mode. You can eliminate both states by equipping Status Protect gear on him.

Travel east until you reach the intersection then head north towards Mt. Hei-Tou.

THOMAS 1 – MT. HEI-TOU

Head east along the riverfront, making sure to pick any ripe herbs you find. If you run into Creepers (frog-like guys that swallow you), use Thomas & Cecile’s Best Effort combo to kill them, otherwise your party will be dead in just a few turns. On the third screen, you’ll have a choice of continuing east or going north. Explore the northern path if you want to level up a bit. It splits into several paths, with the northernmost one leading to a Treasure Boss (which Thomas will wisely run from). Eventually, make your way back down to the riverfront and continue heading east.

There’ll be a Save Point on the next screen and another intersection. Heading north takes you to a corpse. Thomas will never loot corpses, so continue heading east. Eventually, the party stumbles upon a boy being attacked by a wild boar. Fight the creature to rescue the boy then return to Lake Castle.

THOMAS 1 – LAKE CASTLE

After reuniting the boy with his mother, Thomas rests. A week will have passed by the time he wakes up. Once you gain control of Thomas, leave the castle and search for Sebastian. Speak to everyone in their usual places to get clues then return to the castle. Once Sebastian arrives, a cutscene takes over. When it’s done, return to the Inn and talk to Sebastian to form a party. Exit Lake Castle.

Several new areas become available on the World Map. The point of this excursion is for Thomas to start recruiting people, but keep in mind that anyone Thomas recruits now cannot be recruited later by the other main characters, so choose carefully. Listed below are some places to visit for possible recruits, but none of them are mandatory. Just return to Lake Castle when you want to advance the story.

THOMAS 1 – IKSAY VILLAGE (OPTIONAL)

Head north. In an alleyway on the right, you’ll find Watari, who will join the 108 Stars if you pay him 100,000 potch. Further up on the right, you’ll find a Blacksmith, Lottery Ticket seller, and an Appraiser.

On the left, is a Supply Shop run by Gordon. Buy the Rose Brooch he sells (if you want to recruit someone in VDZ) and talk to the kid inside the shop to get a Pale Gate Rune. Enter the Inn next door and go upstairs. There, you’ll meet Dr. Tuta and his assistant Mio. Mio’s Healing support skill is one of the best in the game, so recruit her now if you want to use her with Thomas. Next to the Inn, you’ll meet Mel and her weird puppet, Branky. When given a dialogue choice, pick the first one to recruit her. Visit the windmill if you like then exit town.

THOMAS 1 – ZEXEN FOREST (OPTIONAL)

Head west through the forest and when you reach the loop, take the high road (north). Midway, you’ll bump into Goro, who is examining a tree. Approach him and offer to help build his bathhouse. If you have anyone with the Appraisal ability in your party (Mio, for example), he’ll join the 108 Stars. If he says you’re too weak, come back to recruit him when you have an Appraiser in your party.

THOMAS 1 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY (OPTIONAL)

Enter the city and head south. If you see a man chasing a little girl, don’t follow them. In fact, avoid the front of the Council building altogether on this trip. For now, go straight down to the dock and talk to Augustine, a swordsman, who is standing in front of the Defensive Gear shop. If you bought a Rose Brooch in Iksay Village, give it to him and he’ll join the 108 Stars.

If you did not recruit Dominic earlier with Geddoe, enter the Defensive Gear shop and speak to him behind the counter. When he asks if you appreciate fine art, choose “I follow it”. Buy his Mole Armor to recruit him. Finish up any other business you have then leave the city.

THOMAS 1 – NORTH CAVERN (OPTIONAL)

Follow the path straight back to the clearing where Melville dueled Guillaume in Hugo’s chapter 1. You’ll find a Treasure Boss there, who should be very easy to beat if your characters are at Level 14 or higher. Once defeated, raid the treasure chest for the items you want then leave the cavern.

If Thomas recruited Watari earlier, speak to him at Lake Castle (where the jail cells are) then bring him to North Cavern. Follow the path back to where the Treasure Boss normally is. You’ll see a female ninja named Ayame there, whom Watari will duel. If he wins, she’ll join the 108 Stars.

THOMAS 1 – LAKE CASTLE

A cutscene takes over as soon as you enter the castle grounds and new shops are open for business; the amount depends on how many people you recruited so far. After resting, Thomas learns that Eike is missing. Leave the library and go down to the front entrance to meet Shizu, who offers to fix the castle’s elevator. After she joins the 108 Stars, you can either rest upstairs to advance the story or get one more recruit first. If you want to get the recruit, talk to Sebastian at the Inn and remove everyone from your party except Augustine. Go to Iksay Village.

THOMAS 1 – IKSAY VILLAGE (OPTIONAL)

With Augustine only, visit the Supply shop. Talk to Gordon and accept his offer to join the 108 Stars.

THOMAS 1 – LAKE CASTLE

If you chose to recruit Gordon, you’ll see that he has opened a shop there. Either way, go upstairs and rest. In the morning, approach Shizu by the first floor elevator to trigger a cutscene. After riding the elevator with Shizu, you’ll end up on a new, subterranean floor. Note that there’s no mini-map available to help you navigate down here.

Enter the cave next to the elevator and fight random enemies as you move along. When you reach a clearing, the party will split into 2 groups, with Juan and Piccolo going off alone. Continue forward through the right passage. On the next screen, move forward until you reach an opening on the left. It’s obscured, so keep your eyes peeled to the wall.

Head down the left passage until a cutscene takes over. Once the party regroups, continue forward through the next passageway. After a short dialogue scene, move on until you reach Eike’s secret reading room. When the cutscene ends, you’ll be taken back to the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 2 (Hugo)

Having completed all of the first chapters, move forward to Chapter 2. If you want to avoid some spoilers, don’t choose Thomas’ 2nd chapter until you’ve finished the other chapter 2’s.

HUGO 2 – PLAIN AMUR-NORTH

Starting at Karaya Village on the World Map, travel to Plain Amur-North and head up to Duck Village.

HUGO 2 – DUCK VILLAGE

Watch a cutscene then follow Wilder and Rhett down the left path. You’ll be introduced to Lilly and her two bodyguards, Reed and Samus. When Lilly asks for Hugo’s identity, answer as you wish. Once they leave, explore the town. There’s a Rune Shop and Tutor on the left and a Lottery Ticket seller on the dock near the center (he’ll ride up in a boat when you approach his sign). Just beyond, you’ll find a Trader. The right side of the village offers an Appraiser and Supply Shop. When ready, enter the Inn at the back of the village to prompt a scene with Lilly.

When asked to guide them to the Lizard Clan, select either the 1st or 2nd option to advance the story. If you accept Lilly’s offer, she’ll pay you 2,000 potch up front. Once Lilly, Reed, and Samus join, make any final preparations in town then exit. A new route opens on the World Map.

HUGO 2 – ANCIENT HIGHWAY

After the cutscene, head west until you reach an intersection. Eavesdrop on the Masked Man’s group and when asked what to do next, agree with Lilly if you want to avoid fighting the Man in Black - otherwise choose any other answer. Similar to other boss battles in this game, victory is not required and damn near impossible to achieve unless your party members are at Level 30+. Equipping Sacrificial Jizos on everyone beforehand (especially on Fubar) helps your chance of survival considerably.

If you beat the Man in Black, you’ll receive a Gold Emblem and some decent experience. If not, the Man in Black simply departs. Whatever the outcome, continue heading west until you arrive at the Great Hollow entrance.

HUGO 2 – GREAT HOLLOW

When given the option, choose to help the Lizard Clan in battle (“Sgt. We must join!”). Zexen Soldiers will attack in waves, so heal up in between. Afterwards, watch a cutscene [if you played through Chris’ 2nd chapter first and opted to duel Lucia, the scene will be different]. When you regain control of Hugo, enter the hollow to meet up with Luce and Lucia. Once the conversation ends, approach the Chief’s Room upstairs to trigger a scene between Lilly and Dupa.

After the flashback, go downstairs and head towards the southeastern cave entrance to trigger another cutscene. Once Lilly, Reed and Samus rejoin the party, either enter the cave to recruit Twaikin (if you haven’t done so already) or go to the Inn and speak with Anne, who is standing next to the front desk. She allows Hugo to add party members and switch formations. Rest and save then exit the Hollow.

Outside, the party meets up with Jimba, who tells them about Lake Castle. [If you avoided Lake Castle during Geddoe’s 1st chapter, a new pedestal will light up at the Trinity Site, with a suggestion to select Thomas’ story the next time you’re there.] Take Jimba inside to see Lucia, who is standing near the Inn. During the cutscene, Jimba asks if you delivered the Pentacle. Tell him you did (“Of course”). When he asks if you’ll go to Lake Castle to investigate news of the Fire Bringer, pick the first answer. Once the cutscene ends, finish up any business you have in town then go back outside.

Take the eastern exit to the Ancient Highway area if you want to level up a bit, otherwise head south. Say goodbye to Jimba then…

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 2 (Chris)

Select a new chapter to follow.

CHRIS 2 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY / ZEXEN FOREST

After the cutscene, Chris will be outside her cottage. Head east down the center street and approach the 3 kids who are gathered near the Council building steps. Watch a cutscene wherein Alanis, Melville, and Elliot say goodbye to each other. Afterwards, shop at the Guild Hall or just continue to the front gate to meet up with Borus and Louis. Once they join Chris, leave the city.

New paths open up on the World Map. Detour to North Cavern if you want to level up Chris and Borus or fight the Treasure Boss. Otherwise, head straight through Zexen Forest. When you reach the World Map again, you can go straight to Brass Castle to advance the story or visit Lake Castle first.

CHRIS 2 – LAKE CASTLE (OPTIONAL)

Cross the Yaza Plain until you reach Lake Castle. Once there, a scene takes over. The sole purpose of this visit is to allow Chris to start recruiting people (see Extras page for recruiting details). When the cutscene ends, head back across the Yaza Plain and continue towards Brass Castle.

CHRIS 2 – BRASS CASTLE

If you haven’t recruited Scott already (by giving him Deer Antlers), you’ll find him near the end of the bridge. Enter the western courtyard. After Louis leaves, go inside the castle and enter the Dining Room on the right. Once there, approach the kid in the lower right corner. His name is Arthur and he’s looking for information Chris cannot provide. Just note his location then head upstairs to the Knight’s Parlor. When the cutscene ends, speak to Salome if you want to have Borus and Percival join Chris. Conduct any business you have in town then go to Chris’ room and talk to Louis. When prompted, choose to rest.

Upon waking, Chris informs the group of their new orders. Afterwards, speak to Salome inside the Knight’s Parlor. When asked if you’re prepared for battle, choose to “plan a formation” so you can do a little shopping with the entire group. Save your game at the Dormitory before returning to Salome. Once you tell him you’re ready to depart, a cutscene takes over and the strategic battle automatically begins.

CHRIS 2 – GREAT HOLLOW (BATTLE SITE)

The goal of this strategic battle is to defeat 5 enemy units while keeping Chris’ unit alive. At first, you’ll have 3 units going against 2 enemy units, but more will enter the fray as you move along. The AI engine that constructs these battles will vary each time, so there’s no concrete strategy for winning. Here, though, are a few suggestions:

First, move Chris’ unit towards enemy #1 then move both Roland and Leo units towards enemy #2. Have Chris’ unit attack until the enemy retreats. If lucky, Chris’ unit will be healed afterward. Stay on these spots and keep attacking until Borus and Percival show up. When they do, move them down to attack the center while your remaining units act as cover. The key to all strategy battles is to position your units in such a way as to cover those that will be doing the heavy fighting. By doing so, your attacking unit gets a boost in the damage they inflict. The more you cover a unit, the greater the damage bonus. If possible, keep Chris away from Bazba and send Leo’s unit in to fight Dupa.

If you want to score a Major Victory, avoid losing an entire unit. The prize you’ll receive is an Evasion Ring.

When the battle ends, watch a short dialogue scene then set up your formation. Fight off a few lizard warriors as you approach the entrance. Once you reach it, Shiba’s group comes out to battle you. After defeating them, watch a cutscene involving Lucia.

If you are playing this chapter before Hugo’s chapter 2, you’ll be given a couple of dialogue choices. Pick “Stop these foolish accusations” followed by “So be it” to duel Lucia. To avoid the duel, choose “I cannot.” The scene that follows depends on whether you chose to duel Lucia and, if so, whether you won or lost. Whatever the outcome or order of play, your party will withdraw and automatically return to Brass Castle.

CHRIS 2 – BRASS CASTLE

Watch a cutscene then leave the Knight’s Parlor and go out to the western courtyard. Approach Salome, who is standing on the far left. When he asks what you thought of the battle, answer as you see fit. Ultimately, Chris decides to journey out alone with Louis. Leave Brass Castle and head to Zexen Forest.

CHRIS 2 – ZEXEN FOREST

Upon entering the forest, Chris tells Louis she doesn’t feel well. Afterwards, continue towards Vinay del Zexay until Chris falls off her horse. Watch the flashback. When Chris awakes, she’ll be back at Brass Castle.

CHRIS 2 – BRASS CASTLE

The Knights are gathered at Chris’ bedside. When they leave, exit the bedroom and talk to Percival in the western courtyard. When he suggests going to Iksay Village, take him up on the offer. Once Percival joins the party, exit to the west. A new route opens on the World Map. To advance the story, go straight to Iksay Village. If you want to recruit a few people first, take a side trip to Vinay del Zexay.

CHRIS 2 –VINAY DEL ZEXAY (OPTIONAL)

Enter the city and head south. You’ll see Guillaume chasing a little girl. Continue down the eastern ramp and speak to Nei and Toppo, who are standing on the street above the marketplace. They will tell you that their little girl is missing. Head west until you reach the front of the Council building. You’ll see Guillaume chasing the girl on the steps. Approach him to initiate a duel.

Guillaume is pretty tough but you should be able to win the duel in just a few rounds if you spent time leveling up Chris. After beating him, Nei and Toppo arrive to thank you for helping Shabon, the little girl. When prompted, pick the 1st dialogue choice (“How about Budehuc Castle?”) and all three will join the 108 Stars.

On the World Map, head north then west at the intersection. On the next screen, go east. If Chris has recruited anyone so far, you may want to visit Sebastian in Lake Castle’s Inn and add people to your party before going to Iksay Village.

CHRIS 2 – IKSAY VILLAGE

The village is celebrating the Harvest Festival when the team arrives. After Percival leaves, explore the town. If you haven’t done so already, recruit Watari by paying him 100,000 potch. He should be standing in between two buildings on the right. Visit the Supply Shop to recruit Gordon. [If you skipped Thomas’ first chapter, you can also recruit Mio, who is upstairs tending to a patient in the Inn’s guestroom, and Mel, who is standing next to a building on the right.] When finished exploring, head north towards the windmill.

While admiring the view, Nash arrives. When he asks what Chris is thinking, answer as you see fit. Their conversation is interrupted by news of an attack. Once Nash joins your party, head back to the village. If you want to save your game, talk to the woman in green, who is standing next to a building on the right.

Each time you try to move south, a new band of enemies will attack. The fighting is limitless, so use your best judgment as to how long to keep it up. If you didn’t bring any recruits with you, fighting for a sustained period of time can be rather difficult as it’ll only be Chris, Nash, and Percival against several enemies each round (Percival shows up after the initial fight). Win as many battles as you can, then head north towards the windmill.

About halfway there, Shiba arrives and a cutscene takes over. When given a dialogue choice, select “I am ready…” to engage Shiba in battle. The fight will be similar to the ones at the village entrance except, of course, Shiba will be added to the mix. This should not pose much of a threat if you’ve leveled up Chris and Percival. Once defeated, your party will split a pretty good chunk of experience points.

Upon reaching the windmill, Jimba shows up and challenges Chris to a duel. Based on his comments, it’s pretty easy to tell what he’ll do next, so just counter accordingly. After defeating him, Chris’ armored posse arrives and Nash leaves. Finish up any remaining business you have in town then exit to the World Map.

In order to advance the story, go back to Brass Castle. If you feel like detouring first, read the optional section, below.

CHRIS 2 – LAKE CASTLE / NORTH CAVERN (OPTIONAL)

If Chris recruited Watari earlier, go to Lake Castle and take the elevator down to the basement (where the jail cells are). Approach Watari to trigger a flashback. When it’s over, speak with Sebastian at the Inn to put Watari in your party. Travel all the way over to North Cavern and follow the path back to where the Treasure Boss normally is. You’ll see a female ninja named Ayame there, whom Watari will duel. She’s a tough opponent, so be careful.

If Watari loses the duel, Ayame will leave and it’ll take a while before she shows up again. If Watari wins, Ayame joins the 108 Stars. Once you exit the screen, the Chimera Treasure Boss reclaims his usual spot, so go back in and fight him if you want. Stop by Vinay del Zexay while you’re in the area and when ready, head back to Brass Castle.

CHRIS 2 – BRASS CASTLE

Watch a cutscene then enter the castle. Go to Chris’ bedroom upstairs and talk to Louis. Choose to rest. After the flashback, Salome arrives. When given a dialogue choice, answer as you see fit (the 1st option prompts a longer scene). Once you regain control of Chris, leave the Knight’s Parlor and enter the bedroom next door.

Inside, Chris hears a creaking sound. Examine the bookcase behind the desk to reveal Nash. Answer his questions however you like, but eventually agree to go with him. (Note that if you decline his offer now, you’ll find him later in the eastern courtyard.) Chris will shed her armor and emerge with a new look (don’t worry, the old garb is packed away in the Warehouse). Once Nash joins the 108 Stars, examine the bookcase again and enter the secret passageway.

Watch a brief dialogue scene then take the stairs down to a door. Follow the long, underground passage straight through until you reach another door. Exit and watch another cutscene. When it ends, you’ll be back at the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 2 (Geddoe)

Select a new chapter to follow.

GEDDOE 2 - CALERIA

Back at the Inn, have Geddoe enter the dining area and approach Aila who’s sitting at the table and Ace who’s standing at the bar. Once they join the party, leave the Inn. Head to the center of town and go up the stairs on the left near the Supply stall. After Geddoe receives a package from the Detective up there, return to the front of the Inn to meet the rest of your party. Watch a cutscene, then head out to the Mountain Path.

GEDDOE 2 – MOUNTAIN PATH

Follow the path until you reach the new Treasure Boss, a Rock Golem. You can safely walk past him to take the Le Buque route, however I recommend you fight him, as the treasure he guards is worth getting. The Rock Golem is a bit tougher than the Twin-Head Snake boss that was there earlier, but you should be able to take him down in about 6 rounds if your characters are at Level 30+.

After defeating the Rock Golem, grab what you want from the chest then continue up the northeastern path. At the crossroad, take the southern path down to a corpse. Examine it to get an item then return to the crossroad. Head north towards Le Buque.

GEDDOE 2 – LE BUQUE

After the cutscene, fight a group of Mantor Legionnaires. Upon their defeat, you’ll be introduced to the Masked Bishop who asks Geddoe a few questions. Answer as you see fit. Afterwards, enter town and watch another scene involving Franz. When finished, head right. Once Aila runs off, you have 2 choices: Either follow Aila and eavesdrop on a conversation near the Rune Shop or let Aila go off on her own and head to the back of the village to hear a conversation between Franz and Iku. Either way, approaching the center of town prompts another cutscene. When it finishes, explore the village.

On the right, you’ll find a Trader, Supply Shop, and Defensive Gear vendor. Next to them, you’ll find a ladder leading up to the Mantor’s take-off point. Cross the bridge to get the Inn. Rest and save there if you wish. In the back of town, watch more of Franz and Iku’s conversation. When prompted, choose to investigate the Bishop (“I guess”) or stay behind to hear more of Iku’s story (“Let’s hear what she has to say”). If you opted to investigate, approach the Mantor’s take-off point on the right to eavesdrop on a conversation, taking place above. If you stayed behind with Iku, you will not see this scene. Either way, head over to Iku’s house next to the Inn. Once she offers to guide the group, walk to the middle of town and watch the Mantors depart.

When the scene ends, head to the left side of town and approach Edge, who is standing next to the Rune shop. Pay 1,000 potch to duel him. If you win, he’ll join the 108 Stars. Afterwards, enter the Rune shop. Visit the Tutor, buy some runes, or explore the reading room while inside. When finished, exit to the World Map.

GEDDOE 2 – MT. SENAI

Use the Save Point on the right if you want, then zigzag across the wooden walkways towards the back of the mining cave. The tunnel on the right leads to an outer cliff, which is currently empty, so keep traveling north. Approaching the stone archway at the end of the path triggers a scene with Duke’s gang. What happens next depends on how you respond to Duke: Choose the 1st or 2nd option to fight. Choose the 3rd option to avoid conflict.

There’s no particular strategy to winning this battle, except to stay healthy and save some powerful spells for a fight that will immediately follow this one. Elaine and Duke use magic, so taking them out first is probably a good idea. Other than that, try to get everyone in a Berserk state and just swing away. If you defeat Duke’s team, you’ll immediately enter a second, tougher battle. If, after a few rounds, you survive but don’t crush all of Duke’s team members, you will not have to fight the 2nd set of foes. If you chose to avoid conflict altogether, you’ll just see a couple of cutscenes.

If you crushed Duke’s team, you’ll face Sarah and the Masked Bishop right away. Beating them is not required, but you’ll get a nice bump in experience if you do. Winning is really a matter of luck, as these two can take out your entire party in just one turn. It all depends on the order of their spells. Hit them hard to halt their casting and don’t waste turns healing party members unless absolutely necessary. Try to take out Sarah first, as she can fully heal her party. If you equipped Sacrificial Jizos before coming here, the fight will be much easier to win.

If victorious, the Masked Bishop will knock you out and the group will be gathered near the altar in the northern chamber. Either way, backtrack to the entrance. Once you reach it, a cutscene shows the group planning where to go next.

GEDDOE 2 – LE BUQUE / MOUNTAIN PATH

Stop by Le Buque to rest and restock items then head back up the Mountain Path. If you want, you can return to the area where you fought Sarah and the Masked Bishop in Mt. Senai to fight a Treasure Boss (called Nemesis), otherwise continue towards Caleria. About halfway, a cutscene occurs that automatically takes you back to the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 2 (Thomas)

Choose a new chapter to follow. Selecting Thomas’ final chapter at this point will contain some spoilers, so you may want to hold off until you’ve completed Hugo’s chapter 3. It’s up to you.

THOMAS 2 – LAKE CASTLE

After a brief conversation with Sebastian, you’ll take control of Thomas. Leave the bedroom and go outside. You’ll see the people recruited so far and notice several new shops have opened. Approach Martha and Piccolo near the fountain to prompt a cutscene involving Geddoe. When it’s finished, talk to Sebastian at the Inn to form a party. Exit Lake Castle and go to Iksay Village.

THOMAS 2 – IKSAY VILLAGE

Upon your arrival, you’ll overhear a conversation between a Zexen Council member and his marshal. When the Councilor asks Thomas if he knows where Budehuc Castle is, either tell him the truth or lie. If you tell him the truth, he’ll ask to be escorted there. Afterwards, you can shop and explore the town before returning to the castle.

THOMAS 2 – LAKE CASTLE

If Thomas told the truth in Iksay, the party returns with the Zexen councilor. If Thomas lied, the councilor will not show up for a couple of days, so kill some time until the next scene occurs.

Once the Councilor leaves, go upstairs and speak to Muto in Thomas’ bedroom. Choose to rest. In the morning, go outside and approach the main entrance to trigger a cutscene involving Hugo. Afterwards, return to the castle. At the front door, another cutscene occurs. When it’s finished, go over to the Inn where you’ll meet Caesar and Apple. Head back to the castle to hear Caesar’s plan then go upstairs and rest.

In the morning, go outside and speak with Cecile by the main entrance. Return to the castle and go down the hall on the far left. Speak to Martha, Muto, and Piccolo, who are working on the broken wall there. Go upstairs and enter the library. Speak to Sebastian and Eike, who are standing near the left bookcases. Finally, enter Thomas’ bedroom to trigger a conversation with Sebastian then choose to rest.

In the morning, go outside to meet the group on the front porch. When Caesar asks if you’re ready, answer ‘yes’ to move the story forward. Caesar gives Thomas a Bundle, explaining it should be opened only if Thomas gets into any trouble. When the cutscene ends, a strategic battle begins.

During the first phase, conditions for victory are to stay alive for X turns while making sure ally units are not destroyed. You start with 2 ally units going against 4 enemy units. Note that certain spots on the battlefield have different attributes (fighting in the forest, for example, will decrease damage by 40%). For now, have both Cecile and Thomas block each side of the gate. Note that most of the Zexen units will not attack. If you happen to engage them, just defend until 2 new ally units (led by Hugo & Lilly) come in to help.

During the 2nd phase, conditions for victory are to have Hugo and Lilly escape to the east while making sure ally units are not destroyed. Move either Hugo or Lilly (whichever unit is the strongest) down to engage the enemy while the other allies act as cover. You need to free up the escape route while simultaneously keeping both sides of the castle defended. Once the path is cleared, start moving Hugo and Lilly out to the east. If successful, you’ll score a Major Victory and receive a Counter Ring.

After the battle, Thomas will be back in his bedroom. Go outside and approach Cecile by the entrance to get a dialogue scene. Once finished, speak to Sebastian at the Inn and form a party. Exit Lake Castle.

THOMAS 2 – WORLD MAP

Do some exploring out in the world (recruit Barts in Iksay, for example) or, if you’re eager to advance the story, simply return to Lake Castle.

THOMAS 2 – LAKE CASTLE

Upon your return, head over to the castle and watch a cutscene involving Leo and Percival. When it’s finished, go upstairs and rest. In the middle of the night, Thomas wakes up. Visit Eike in the library then head downstairs to prompt a scene with Sebastian. Once he leaves, continue down to the 1st floor and speak with Muto near the broken wall on the far left. When he asks if you want to leave, answer as you see fit. Go upstairs and head towards Thomas’ bedroom to prompt a scene with Cecile. Answer her question however you like. When the scene ends, it’ll be morning.

Go outside and approach the knights. When they ask if you’re ready to leave, say ‘yes’ to advance the story. Watch an extended cutscene, during which you can rename the castle if you like. Afterwards, Thomas will be back in his bedroom. Choose to rest when you want to advance the story.

The next morning, conduct whatever business you have in town then return to the castle. Sebastian suggests resting. Do as he says. When Thomas wakes up, you’ll watch a few cutscenes and Juan will ask if you’re ready. Tell him “you need some time”. Speak to Sebastian to organize a party and make sure they are well prepared for battle. Save your game before approaching Muto at the front entrance. As soon as you tell Juan you are ready, a strategic battle begins.

This battle will be a little tougher than the first one Thomas faced, but your strategy should remain the same: Defend the gate and send in your best teams to fight while the rest act as cover. The conditions for victory are to stay alive for X turns, while making sure no ally units are destroyed. You’ll start with 3 units. Position them to defend, thus buying some time before help arrives. If you leveled up Thomas’ crew fairly well, none of the Zexen units will pose much of a threat. As before, have any non-fighting units in position to cover those that will be attacking. Midway through the battle, Leo and Percival show up with their units. You will not be able to defeat either of them, but you can wipe out their members if you feel strong enough. The goal is to outlast the enemy and score a Safe Retreat. If you do, you’ll receive a Killer rune.

After the battle, select a formation and prepare to fight off enemies as they storm the castle. The first crew is pretty easy to take down. Just make sure your party is fully healed before you face the ones inside the castle. They are super-strong and impossible to beat. The goal is merely to stay alive until the battle ends. A cutscene will take over then you’ll have to fight off 2 more enemies, who are pretty easy to defeat. Afterwards, watch a series of cutscenes until you arrive back at the Trinity Site.

Note: If you elected to play Thomas’ 2nd chapter after all the other chapter 3’s, make absolutely sure you save your game at the Trinity Site before moving on to chapter 4.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 3 (Chris)

Select another chapter to follow.

CHRIS 3 – DUCK VILLAGE

After a brief dialogue scene between Chris and Nash, Fred and Rico approach. Fred will ask Chris a series of questions that you can answer however you wish but to advance the story, let them tag along. Select an order for the party then explore the village.

Go the dock behind the Inn. Approach the Aztec-looking man, Hortez VII, who asks for directions to Lake Castle. Give him the correct directions and he’ll wander off. Next, approach Sanae Y., who is speaking with a duck there (if you don’t see her yet, your party’s combined PWR is too low). When given a dialogue choice, pick the 1st or 2nd option to resolve the conflict then ask her to join the 108 Stars. Once you’ve recruited her, enter the guestroom on the right.

Inside, you’ll meet Kidd, a young detective, who is investigating a murder. If you agree to help him, you’ll see a scene showing details of the case. Afterwards, search the room for clues: the credenza on the right and the window on the left in particular. Return to Kidd, who suggests going outside to make inquiries. Leave the guestroom and speak to Janitor Howard, who is wandering around on the dock. After he gives you some information, go to the center of town and speak with the duck that is examining the water wheel. Next, enter the Trader’s shop and talk to the patron to get a Letter Fragment. Return to Kidd. Watch the cutscene and when Kidd asks you to guess who the murderer is, select any of the answers. Once Kidd reveals what actually happened, you’ll be able to recruit him.

Leave the Inn and speak to Rhett & Wilder, who are standing near the Rune shop. They offer to guide you to Chisha Village if you get permission from the village Chief. Go over to the Trader’s shop and speak to the Chief near the dock. Once you have his permission, return to Rhett and Wilder. Pay them 2,000 potch to escort the group. (If you don’t have the cash, play the lottery, which Chris seems amenable to now.) Finish up any business in town then exit to the World Map.

A few new routes become available and you have a choice to make: Either go straight to Chisha Village to advance the story or visit some optional places first. I’ve outlined a few optional trips below. Just skip past the next few paragraphs if you want to head straight to Chisha.

CHRIS 3 – PLAIN OF AMUR-NORTH (OPTIONAL)

At Plain of Amur-North, head east towards a bunch of horses. Approach the girl standing in the middle of them. Her name is Kathy and she’ll ask you to count how many horses she has. If you agree to help her, run around and count all the horses you see. While this sounds like an easy task, the process is made more difficult due to the fact that random monsters will attack the party continuously as you’re counting. Afterwards, return to Kathy. When she asks if you counted all of them, answer “Alright then” if you know the amount. Next, she’ll ask if you found more, less, or exactly 15 horses. Respond accordingly. Finally, she’ll ask for the exact number of horses and you’ll have a series of numbers to choose from. If you pick the correct one, you’ll be able to recruit her. If you answer incorrectly, Kathy will leave and it’ll be a while before she shows up in the area again. The number of horses will change the next time she’s there, so try to get it right the first time. When finished, exit to the World Map.

CHRIS 3 – BRASS CASTLE (OPTIONAL)

Stop by Brass Castle to visit the Trader on the eastern bridge. Chris is not allowed to enter the castle in this chapter (nor can she wear armor) but go ahead and shop inside the eastern courtyard if you want. If you have a Screw in your inventory, recruit both Belle and her sidekick, Gadget Z, if haven’t done so already. Backtrack to the World Map.

CHRIS 3 – YAZA PLAIN (OPTIONAL)

Head southwest then east on the next screen. If you recruited Kathy earlier, you’ll see a guy exercising out on the plains. This is Kenji, a gym teacher, who asks if you want to limber up with him. Accept the offer. When he asks if it feels good, tell him you “need water.” Once he joins the 108 Stars, continue forward until you reach the World Map again.

CHRIS 3 – IKSAY VILLAGE (OPTIONAL)

Enter the village and head north towards the windmill. Once there, approach the young man holding a gardening tool who is standing on the right. This is Barts. Talk to him and suggest Budehuc Castle. If you have GrapesC in your inventory, he’ll ask for it then join the 108 Stars. When finished in town, return to the World Map.

CHRIS 3 – LAKE CASTLE (OPTIONAL)

Upon entering Lake Castle, you’ll see new shops have opened and new people have arrived. The amount depends on who’s been recruited so far. Enter the castle and go down to the basement to find that all of Chris’ stuff from Brass Castle is now stored in Muto’s warehouse. If you recruited Kidd earlier, he’ll be in one of the lower jail cells. Talking to him allows you to view a list of all the people recruited so far in the game and see how many are left. If you pay Kidd 100 potch, he’ll go off and investigate someone for you.

While inside the castle, make sure to display any paintings or antiques you’ve collected so far. Also, give Eike any Old Books you’ve found for his library collection and visit Goro in the ship’s bathhouse to see what effects certain bath items have on different characters.

If you recruited Barts, you’ll find him next to Juan’s Blacksmith shop. Give him any seeds you’ve found and he’ll start planting things you can collect for trade. Follow the path beyond to Kathy, who is hanging out near the pig farmer. Spend some time racing horses if you want then go up to the Inn. Speak with Sebastian to add a support member to your party and rest if you like. When you are finished shopping and exploring, leave Lake Castle.

CHRIS 3 – ZEXEN FOREST / VINAY DEL ZEXAY (OPTIONAL)

Follow the path that leads to Zexen Forest and continue straight through. Chris has no ethical problem looting corpses now, so see if any items were left in the cul-de-sac as you pass through. When you reach the World Map again, visit the North Cavern to fight a Treasure Boss or head directly to Vinay del Zexay.

Rest at Chris’ cottage for free if you like then do some shopping. Note that the Guild Hall is off limits to Chris at the moment. If you haven’t recruited them already, speak to Toppo and Nel, who are standing on the street above the marketplace. The two performers have lost their little girl and ask that you help find her. If you go to the fountain in front of the Council building, you’ll see Guillaime chasing the girl. Approach him to trigger a duel. Chris should be leveled up enough to have this duel end quickly. Once it does, tell the performers about Budehuc Castle so Shabon, Nel, and Toppo join the 108 Stars.

Finish up any business you have in Vinay del Zexay then exit to the World Map. In order to advance the story, backtrack all the way to Kuput Forest.

CHRIS 3 – KUPUT FOREST

Head east through the forest until you reach an intersection. Follow the left path to grab an herb (if ripe) then return to the intersection and head right. When you reach the clearing, continue along the eastern path (the northwestern one is of no use to you at the moment). At the third intersection, take the left path up to loot a corpse. Return to the main road and follow the eastern path out to the World Map.

While roaming Kuput Forest, there’s a chance you’ll bump into Landis. He shows up randomly if you have a 5-member party with a high Luck rating. If you meet this criteria and he shows up, recruit Landis now. He is, in my opinion, the toughest person to recruit in the game.

CHRIS 3 – CHISHA VILLAGE

After watching a cutscene, head into town. Partway down, Yun and Yuri greet Chris. Introduce yourself by choosing any of the 3 responses. Watch the rest of the scene then approach Sana, who is standing in front of the Inn. Midway through the conversation, Mantor forces arrive. When you regain control of Chris, enter the Inn to save your game or just head back up to the village entrance.

When the legionnaires try to attack Sana, respond by saying, “Watch out!” After some more dialogue, you’ll be prompted to form and organize a party. When finished, a battle ensues. None of these enemies are especially tough, particularly if you leveled up by visiting some of the optional places earlier. After you defeat them, watch another cutscene then go explore town.

Enter any of the huts and you’ll find that they are all tied together by a series of passages underground. For the moment, enter the one that is farthest left. There’s an Appraiser inside and a set of stairs leading down to a Trader. Enter the door next to him to get to the central Tavern. Once there, speak to Emily, who is sitting at one of the tables. When she asks if you want to challenge her, accept the offer. If your party’s collective PWR is high enough, she’ll join the 108 Stars.

From the Tavern area, follow the rightmost passage into a storage room, where you’ll find Wan-Fu passed out on the floor. If you want to recruit him, pay off his 3,000 potch debt. Climb the stairs in the storage room to reach a Supply shop and Defensive Gear vendor. The door in this room leads outside but for now, return to the Tavern.

Enter the double doors in back of the Tavern to reach a couple of guestrooms. Climb the stairs on the right to visit the Innkeeper. Save/rest then go outside and speak to the kid next to the cow to get Medal Set #2 then talk to Sana if you want to switch party members. Head left to find Hortez VII (the one you met at Duck Village earlier). When prompted, give him correct directions to Budehuc Castle then head up to the village entrance.

Once there, you’ll trigger a scene with Nash. Afterwards, go down and speak with Yun and Yumi by the Inn. When they ask if you’ll escort them to Duck Village, answer, “OK, I’ll help you.” The two gals replace Rico and Fred in your party automatically. After organizing everyone, you’ll be back on the World Map.

CHRIS 3 – KUPUT FOREST / DUCK VILLAGE

Go straight through Kuput Forest until you reach the World Map. Select Duck Village. After some dialogue, head back towards the Inn where you’ll bump into Caesar and Apple. Once they join the group, return to Chisha Village.

CHRIS 3 – CHISHA VILLAGE

Watch a cutscene, during which you’ll be prompted to create a unit lineup for the upcoming strategic battle. When Caesar asks if you’re ready, choose “Wait a minute” if you want to go to the Inn and rest first. When you return to Caesar, review your units again or just choose “Ready” to commence the battle.

The conditions for victory are to stay alive for X turns, while making sure no ally units are captured. As usual, Chris’ unit must not be defeated. You start with 3 ally units against the enemy’s 4. The tactic I used was to attack the 3 weaker units until they retreated or were defeated, thus allowing me to encircle Dios’ unit. In between, I used a turn to replenish health (available to some units as a support option) if they were near death. Ally units that did not come with this option were used to cover or defend. Generally speaking, this was an aggressive tactic to use, but I believe victory is achievable even with weaker characters if you time your attacks correctly and avoid Dios’ unit until you’ve eliminated the rest. Midway through, Sansarai’s unit arrives. Avoid him entirely. His magic is still way too tough to defend against. Stall or heal for 2 turns until Hugo’s unit arrives, which will prompt Sansarai to leave. If you want to score a Major Victory, wipe out all regular units before Hugo arrives. Doing so gains you Earth Chain Mail.

If you already played through Hugo’s 3rd chapter, the cutscene that follows will be familiar, although you’ll see it from Chris’ perspective this time. When Yun arrives and asks Chris if she’ll come to Alma Kinan, tell her you will. Form a party and watch the rest of the cutscene. When it ends, you’ll be taken to the World Map and see that a new route has opened within Kuput Forest. Feel free to return to Chisha in order to save your game or shop before continuing onwards.

CHRIS 3 – KUPUT FOREST

Head south two screens. When you reach the clearing, watch the cutscene then follow the northwest path. After Yumi releases a protective barrier, the group can continue west along the path that was previously “endless”. Keep going forward until you reach another clearing. Once there, you’ll meet Yuiri who automatically joins your party when Yuber arrives.

To defeat him, use your best magic (Yumi’s Earthquake spell is particularly effective) and try to get everyone in a Berserk state. Fred and Rico’s Maximillian Combo works pretty well, too. Yuber is very quick and comes armed with some serious spells, so heal up in between rounds. Eventually, you’ll wear him down and the fight will end. Win or lose, continue forward until you reach the World Map.

CHRIS 3 – ALMA KINAN VILLAGE

Watch a brief scene then explore the village. On the left, there’s a Tutor, Bujutsu Teacher, and Supply Shop. On the right is a Rune Sage. Approach the cabin next to it to trigger a dialogue scene then visit the Inn at the back of town. When ready, return to the cabin next to the Rune shop and enter.

After watching the cutscene, leave and follow the path on the upper right. Approach Nash to trigger a dialogue scene wherein some very interesting information is revealed. (If you spoke to Nash on the porch first, he’ll automatically arrive and speak to Chris.) Afterwards, leave the shrine area and return to Yun’s cabin to watch another scene. When given the choice, choose to rest.

During the night, Chris hears something. Go outside to trigger a lengthy cutscene, during which Yuber shows up with Sarah and the Masked Bishop. A battle ensues. As before, you do not have to beat them to continue with the story so just do your best. Win or lose, watch the aftermath.

When you take control of Chris, she will be alone with Rico. Go back to the shrine area and approach Nash, who rejoins the party. Afterwards, head over to the village entrance. During the cutscene, Yuiri gives Chris directions to the Flame Champion’s Hideaway and the party ends up on the World Map. A new route has opened. Before going there, return to Alma Kinan.

Approach the Inn and speak to the young man holding a broomstick outside. His name is Rody. When given a dialogue choice, select the 1st option then enter the Inn. Talk to Estella, who is sitting at the table. Afterwards, go to the shrine area and speak to the girl there. Return to Estella, who you can now recruit along with Rody. Save your game at the Inn then exit to the World Map.

CHRIS 3 – KUPUT FOREST / CHISHA VILLAGE

Follow the northeast path through the forest until you reach Chisha Village. Once there, speak with Sana at the Inn to organize a full party and save your game. When ready, head out to the World Map. Moving forward to the Flame Champion Hideaway will end Chris’ chapter, so go there only if you’re finished exploring other places around the world.

CHRIS 3 – FLAME CHAMPION HIDEAWAY

Watch a brief dialogue scene then enter the cave. On the 2nd screen, take the northeastern path to a corpse you can loot then return to the intersection. Now, follow the northwestern path until you reach another intersection.

Avoid the cul-de-sac on the left for now. Instead, follow the northeast route. On the next screen, explore an alcove on the right for another corpse to loot then return to the intersection and head down the left path. Midway, you’ll find a Save Point. Use it before continuing, as the party is about to face a Treasure Boss called Azzodess.

Azzodess is invulnerable to Lightning magic so don’t bother using it. She will primarily shoot beams at one person or use two other attacks that damage the entire party. Do what you can to keep as many people alive as possible so they can benefit from the experience. After defeating her, grab everything that is in the chest and exit the area. Head south and enter the cul-de-sac you avoided earlier.

As soon as you approach, a cutscene takes over in which Chris gets sucked down through a portal from which she cannot return. Once Chris reaches the bottom, continue north until you get to a door. Enter and approach Sana to trigger a cutscene. When it ends, you’ll be back at the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 3 (Hugo)

Choose a new chapter to follow.

HUGO 3 – GREAT HOLLOW

From Great Hollow on the World Map, you’ll see two new routes open. One leads to Mt. Hei-Tou and the other leads to Lake Castle via the Yaza Plain. To advance the story, you’ll need to go to Lake Castle, but why not visit Mt. Hei-Tou first for a bit of treasure?

HUGO 3 – MT. HEI-TOU (OPTIONAL)

The main purpose of visiting Mt. Hei-Tou is to fight the Blue Mantrix, a Treasure Boss. To get to him, follow the path east until you reach an intersection then take the northern route. Halfway up, there’ll be a fork in the road. Take the left path to a corpse that you can loot then continue heading north. At the very top, you’ll see the Blue Mantrix lying in wait. Heal up before approaching him.

If you spent time leveling up Hugo’s party, this boss fight will be pretty easy to win. In fact, attacking with Hugo and Fubar alone while the others act as support will probably take him down in just 5 or 6 rounds. After defeating the creature, grab all of the treasure in the chest then head south, back down towards the riverfront. Along the way, loot another corpse off the western path.

Upon reaching the riverfront, you can continue heading east to gain more experience or just head back out to the World Map. Travel southwest and on the next screen, go east to get to Lake Castle. If you did not recruit Kenji earlier, you should do so now.

HUGO 3 – LAKE CASTLE

After a brief dialogue scene, explore the town. All of the shops and people recruited so far will be in their usual places. If you try to enter the castle, Sebastian will shove you out. Visit Cecile at her post by the entrance to prompt a cutscene. When it’s finished, speak to Sebastian and choose to rest. You’ll have the option of paying for the room, or getting it for free. Respond as you see fit.

In the morning, leave the Inn and approach the front entrance to see what all the commotion is about. When you regain control of Hugo, go up to the castle to watch another scene. When asked for a response, choose whatever you want. Afterwards, return to the front entrance and speak to the soldiers there. When given a dialogue choice, answer, “I’m the one you want” to see a scene involving the Zexen Councilor. Go back to the castle to trigger another cutscene. Midway through it, Caesar and Apple arrive. While they are busy devising a plan, wander around the castle grounds a bit then return to Caesar. When he asks if you are ready, pick all 3 options from bottom to top. Afterwards, enter the castle and do some exploring.

If you collected any Paintings or Antiques, place them in the hallway and upstairs Gallery. Visit the Library to give Eike any Old Books you have collected. Go to the basement and visit Muto to store extra items at the Warehouse. Go to the ship and use any bath items you collected there to see what effects they may have on your party. When finished, leave the castle. Outside, Hugo bumps into Thomas, but he’s too busy to talk, so just go back to the Inn and choose to rest. Watch the cutscene, which ends with Hugo waking up the next morning.

Leave the Inn and approach the front entrance. When Caesar asks if you’re ready, choose “On your signal” to move the plot forward, or “Wait a second” if you want to save your game first. If ready, a strategic battle begins:

If you played through Thomas’ 2nd chapter before this one, the strategic battle will just happen automatically. Hugo will be standing at the front entrance when you resume control of him. Exit Lake Castle and automatically move to Yaza Plain on the World Map.

HUGO 3 – YAZA PLAIN

As you go forward through the plains, Zexen soldiers attack the party. Fight your way through them until you reach the next screen. Watch a dialogue scene then head northwest to get back to the World Map. Detour to Mt. Hei-Tou if you want, otherwise head over to Great Hollow.

HUGO 3 – GREAT HOLLOW

Take the northern path into town. Once inside, a cutscene takes over, wherein Lilly and her guys depart. After they leave, conduct whatever business you have in town then visit Anne at the Inn to form a new party. Whoever Hugo has recruited so far will appear on the list. Add as many people as you have and make sure they are well prepared for the journey ahead. When ready, leave Great Hollow and use the eastern exit.

HUGO 3 – ANCIENT HIGHWAY

Travel east through the Ancient Highway until you reach the intersection. You’ll see Guillaume running around in front of the seal. Approach him to trigger a duel. Once you beat him, he’ll join the 108 Stars and open an Appraiser’s shop at Lake Castle. Continue forward until you reach the World Map again. A new route has opened.

Cross the plains until you reach the World Map again. Select Brass Castle.

HUGO 3 – BRASS CASTLE

Enter the eastern courtyard. Once there, Sgt. Joe reminds Hugo to keep low profile. Respond as you see fit. Afterwards, enter the castle. Go into the Dining Room and look for a young boy with glasses towards the bottom right of the screen. His name is Arthur. Talk to him and pick the second choice (“Tell him”) to trigger a cutscene in which the party finds itself in the underground passageway. Follow Arthur to the exit and when he asks you what happened, pick the first choice (“Tell him”) so he joins the 108 Stars. Afterwards, return to the eastern courtyard.

Once there, you’ll be introduced to Mua and Hallec. When Hallec comments on a smell, respond however you like. In the midst of the conversation, Leo arrives. When given a choice, select “Run!” to avoid conflict, or “This time will be different” to engage in combat. If you chose the latter, Mua and Hallec will join the party to help fight. Unless you take out all enemies in 3 turns you will not be able to win, but once you cause enough damage, Leo will pause the fight. Watch the cutscene that follows in which Mua and Hallec automatically join the 108 Stars.

At this point, you can pretty much go anywhere in the eastern half of the world, so do some exploring to level up your new comrades if you wish. Otherwise, head back to Great Hollow.

HUGO 3 – GREAT HOLLOW

Enter the hollow and approach Apple, who is standing near the waterfall surrounded by lizard guards. When she asks if you’ll travel to Chisha with her, answer, “Absolutely” unless you need further encouragement. Respond to her second comment by picking the 1st option. When the scene ends, go talk to Luce over by the Inn. Afterwards, enter the Inn and speak with Anne to organize a party and/or rest. Make final preparations in town then take the southern exit out to the World Map. Several new routes have opened, including one leading to Caleria. Travel there (or anywhere else) if you wish. Otherwise, head towards Kuput Forest.

HUGO 3 – CALERIA (OPTIONAL)

If you take a side trip to Caleria, you’ll find Hortez VII lost again. Give him the correct directions a third time and he’ll wander off. Afterwards, get a Copper Hammer from one of the villagers then enter the Trader’s Shop and speak with Mike, a card player. Win at least 20,000 potch in the card game to recruit him.

Speak to Nadir in the upstairs guestroom of the Inn to learn that he’s looking for actors. If you visit him with 3 men, 2 women, and a child in your party, he’ll join the 108 Stars. Note that teenagers (such as Hugo and Aila) count as children and mounted recruits (such as Fubar and Bright) do not count as either sex. The same is true for Augustine. Once recruited, you can perform plays at Lake Castle by giving Nadir any additional Scripts you find.

HUGO 3 – DUCK VILLAGE (OPTIONAL)

Head over to the Appraiser’s shop in Duck Village and go upstairs. Approach the girl standing next to the counter. Her name is Mamie and she’s looking for a Crab Rice Bowl. If you check Hallec’s equipment, you’ll see that he comes with one. Give it to her and she’ll join the 108 Stars. If you used Hallec’s Crab Rice Bowl in battle already, you can acquire one from certain creatures in Kuput or Zexen Forests.

If you gave Hortez VII correct directions in Duck Village, Chisha, and Caleria previously, you’ll find him back on the dock behind the Inn. This time, give him the wrong directions to Budehuc Castle to recruit him. The next time you visit there, Hortez VII will be inside Jeane’s Rune Shop selling magic scrolls.

HUGO 3 – KUPUT FOREST

Move northeast through the forest until you reach an intersection. If your party collectively has a high Luck rating and contains only 5 members, there’s a chance you’ll see Landis roaming around in the area. If so, you can recruit him. If he’s not there, don’t worry. There’ll be other opportunities to get him later. Either way, follow the northwest path up to pluck an herb (if ripe), otherwise head northeast to the next screen. Once you reach the clearing, you’ll have a choice of going left or right.

Following the left path results in a seemingly endless journey. If you want to, keep heading west until Hugo stops and says, “Huh?” If you continue further, odds are you’ll run into the Red Mantrix and his 3 Tarantula buddies, a rare enemy in this region. To get out of the endless loop, simply turn around and head east. You’ll immediately return to the clearing.

Follow the path on the right until you reach another intersection. Again, you have a choice of going left or right. The left path leads to a corpse that you can loot. The right path takes you out to the World Map.

HUGO 3 – CHISHA VILLAGE

Once the group arrives, they see a battle is already underway. Approach the Harmonian soldiers to initiate a fight. After defeating them, heal up and move forward to battle a few more. Watch the cutscene that follows then battle a group of Mantor Legionnaires. Following this fight, you’ll be introduced to Dios, who orders his troops to retreat. Once all is peaceful again, head down to the village.

Go left to trigger a scene involving Sana, the tribal chief. If you did not play through Chris’ chapter 3 before this one, a dialogue choice will be offered. Select either option, as folks will step in to calm Hugo down before he gets a chance to duel Chris. Watch the rest of the cutscene and when you regain control of Hugo, explore the village.

If you haven’t recruited Emily or Wan-Fu yet, do so now. Emily is sitting at one of the tables in the lower Tavern. When she asks if you want to challenge her, accept the offer. If your party’s collective PWR is high enough, she’ll join the 108 Stars. From the Tavern area, follow the rightmost passage into a storage room, where you’ll find Wan-Fu passed out on the floor. Pay off his 3,000 potch debt to recruit him.

When ready, head back to the village entrance. Watch a scene involving Albert and Yuber, whom you’ll recognize as the Man in Black. Hugo will duel him, but the fight is rigged, so don’t fret when you lose. Watch the cutscene that follows and when you take control of Hugo, exit the guestroom. Save your game at the Inn then head outside. Move forward to meet up with your party. Listen to Caesar’s plan and when given the option, choose “I guess” to move the story forward.

Watch another cutscene then engage in a duel with Sansarai. You have about 8 rounds to beat him otherwise it’ll result in a draw. Hugo won’t receive anything special either way, so just do your best. The goal, really, is to avoid losing. After completing the duel, watch another scene then go back to the village entrance. Eventually, Luce allows you to form a party. When finished, you’ll be back on the World Map.

A new route has appeared and to move the story along, you need to go there. Doing so, however, ends Hugo’s chapter, so finish up any other business you have around the world before going to the Hideaway.

HUGO 3 – FLAME CHAMPION HIDEAWAY

After a short dialogue scene, head north into the cave. On the second screen you’ll reach a crossroad. Take the northeastern path to loot a corpse then go back to the previous screen. Now, follow the northwest path until you reach another intersection. Avoid the cul-de-sac on the left for now. Instead, head northeast.

At the next intersection, follow the northeastern path to loot another corpse then go back to the previous screen. Head northwest until you reach a Save Point. Make sure everyone’s at full health before continuing north, as you’re about to face a Treasure Boss called Azzodess.

Backtrack all the way to the first intersection you saw.

Continuing left into the cul-de-sac results in Hugo being sucked down through a portal (from which he cannot return), so avoid it if you wish to level up some more. When ready, head into the cul-de-sac and approach the square. Once Hugo reaches the bottom, continue north until you get to a door. Enter and approach Sana to trigger a conversation. Once it ends, you’ll be back at the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 3 (Geddoe)

Select another chapter to follow.

GEDDOE 3 – BRASS CASTLE

Watch a scene showing the group’s arrival. When you take control of Geddoe, head over to the western courtyard. After another cutscene, continue west across the bridge. If you haven’t recruited Scott yet, he’ll be standing near the castle entrance looking to buy some Deer Antlers. Exit to the World Map. As usual, feel free to explore other places in the world. When you want to progress the story, travel to Vinay del Zexay.

GEDDOE 3 – ZEXEN FOREST / VINAY DEL ZEXAY

Head straight through Zexen Forest then go to Vinay del Zexay. Once inside, a cutscene takes over. Afterwards, go to the Inn and pay to stay to trigger a few more cutscenes. Conduct any business you have in town then exit to the World Map. Travel to North Cavern.

GEDDOE 3 – NORTH CAVERN

Watch a brief dialogue scene then enter the cavern. Follow the path all the way through to the 2nd spiral area. Once there, Duke arrives and challenges Geddoe to a duel. When prompted, choose “Fine then” to start the duel, or “Hang on a second” to delay it. If you delay, Duke will be guarding the exit and challenge you again. Just tell him you’re ready. After you beat him, continue through to the next passage.

Use the Save Point if you wish and continue to the next screen. Inside the chamber where there’s normally a Treasure Boss, you’ll see a cutscene. When it ends, the group will be back at the entrance outside. If you like, return to the chamber to fight the Treasure Boss; otherwise exit to the World Map.

Head straight through the forest and continue northwest through the Yaza Plain. On the second screen, head east until you reach Lake Castle.

GEDDOE 3 – LAKE CASTLE

Watch a cutscene that will be familiar to you if you played through Thomas’ 2nd chapter already. When you regain control of Geddoe, explore the town. If you acquired an S-Statue on your journey, make sure to visit the Gallery upstairs. Place it on the center pedestal then leave the room. Return to find Billy there. He wants to play a game of cards called Goppu. When prompted, have Billy teach you the rules then elect to play. If you beat him, Billy joins the 108 Stars and asks that you find his son in Vinay del Zexay.

Afterwards, go to the Library to trigger a cutscene. Billy will be there if you want to play cards with him again. Exit and go downstairs to trigger another scene. When prompted, agree to rest (“I suppose”) or explore town first (“Let’s look around some more”). Once you agree to rest, watch a conversation between Geddoe and Joker, in which Geddoe reveals he has the True Lightning rune. This rune will be attached to Geddoe once the scene ends.

The next morning, save your game then go outside. Approach the front entrance where Thomas’ group is gathered. When the Zexen troops arrive, fight off 5 marshals then head towards the castle. Fight off another unit then enter the castle and fight 2 more.

After the series of battles, you’ll be taken back to the World Map, where several new routes have opened up.

To advance the story, you’ll want to head to Kuput Forest via the Plain of Amur-North, so skip past the optional paragraphs below if you want to go there right away.

GEDDOE 3 – VINAY DEL ZEXAY (OPTIONAL)

After entering the city, take the western ramp down to the thin alleyway on the right. Enter and approach Melville. Once he learns that his father is waiting for him at Budehuc Castle, he’ll join the 108 Stars, as will his buddy Elliot. Unless you have other business to conduct, leave the city.

GEDDOE 3 – GREAT HOLLOW (OPTIONAL)

If Geddoe acquired an Iron Hammer earlier in the game, visit Peggi inside the Blacksmith’s shop. When given a dialogue choice, select “Can you work on my sword?” She’ll notice you have the hammer and ask for it. Choose “This should come in handy” to recruit her. Once she leaves, another Blacksmith appears in case you want to use his services. Note that you may find other hammers during the game. If so, give them to Peggi at Lake Castle so she can upgrade your weapons to higher levels. Complete other business then exit Great Hollow.

GEDDOE 3 – KUPUT FOREST

Travel through the forest in an easterly direction. You can veer off a couple times to loot corpses if you like; otherwise keep going until you reach the World Map. Reaching the Hideaway will end Geddoe’s chapter, so travel there only when you’re finished up elsewhere in the world.

GEDDOE 3 – FLAME CHAMPION HIDEAWAY

Watch a brief dialogue scene then enter the cave. On the 2nd screen, take the northeastern path to a corpse you can loot then return to the intersection. Now, follow the northwestern path until you reach another intersection.

Avoid the cul-de-sac on the left for now. Instead, follow the northeast route. On the next screen, explore an alcove on the right for a corpse to loot then return to the intersection and head down the left path.

As soon as you approach, a cutscene takes over in which Geddoe gets sucked down through a portal from which he cannot return. Once Geddoe reaches the bottom, continue north until you get to a door. Enter and approach Sana to trigger a scene. When it ends, you’ll be back at the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 4

Before selecting a chapter 4 to follow, save your game. I stress this because big decisions are coming up and if you change your mind later, you’ll need to reload from the game file you save right now.

CHAPTER 4 – FLAME CHAMPION HIDEAWAY

Regardless of whom you chose at the Trinity Site, the initial scene will be the same. However, once you’ve selected the Flame Champion’s successor, the rest of the game will be played from the viewpoint of that character. If, after making the selection, you don’t like the way the game is unfolding, reload the last game you saved at the Trinity Site and try out someone else’s scenario.

After selecting the Flame Champion’s successor, watch a scene based on the person you chose. When Sana asks if you are ready, answer “Yes” to proceed or “Hold on a bit” if you want to prep first. Note that your inventory is based on the person you selected. The other two will fight the upcoming battles equipped with whatever they had on before being sucked down the portal. When ready, speak to Sana, who leads the trio into a chamber wherein a fiery dragon awaits.

Beating the fire dragon will be relatively easy or pretty difficult depending on the levels of your characters and what they came in wearing. Fire magic, naturally, has no effect on the dragon so avoid using it. Geddoe’s lightning magic is very effective, but try to save a couple major spells for a fight that immediately follows this one. Keep everyone as healthy as possible and just swing away until the boss goes down.

Once victorious, you’ll receive Dragon Incense and watch a scene that bequeaths the True Fire rune to whomever you chose earlier (Hugo will inherit the True Lightning rune if you picked Geddoe as your Flame Champ). Midway through the scene, some familiar faces show up to engage the trio in another battle.

Beating this fierce team is not required but give it a shot anyways. The 3 chimeras they bring along are easy to take down using the new True Fire rune, regardless of whether or not your character is skilled in Fire magic. If you saved Geddoe’s most powerful lightning spells, use them now while Chris attacks with her all. Winning the battle depends greatly on luck, as some of the enemy’s spells can wipe out your party in a single shot. Regardless of the outcome, watch a cutscene that ends back at Chisha Village.

CHAPTER 4 – CHISHA VILLAGE

After some dialogue, leave the Inn and head up to the village entrance. When the next scene ends, return to town and speak with Sana to form a party. If you check your inventory, you’ll notice some things have changed: Namely, all money from your 3 main characters has been pooled into one large chunk. If you picked Chris as your FC, you’ll see her equipment has changed, as well as the equipment on all her knights.

To advance the story, save your game at the Inn then go outside and talk to Caesar (Hugo), Ace (Geddoe) or Salome (Chris). As soon as you say you’re ready, a battle formation screen appears, allowing you to redistribute members within each ally unit. Once you’ve done so, a strategic battle begins.

The conditions for victory are to destroy all enemy units, while making sure you keep at least 5 ally units alive. The reality, though, is you cannot win this battle no matter how hard you try. About 10 rounds in, your group will simply retreat in defeat.

CHAPTER 4 – DUCK VILLAGE

Watch an extended cutscene then go to the Inn to trigger another one. When it ends, return to the village entrance. Upon learning that Harmonians are approaching the area, Caesar arrives with a plan. If you selected Chris as the FC, Salome will ask you to form a party. If you selected Hugo, speak to Apple to form a party. When prompted, pick the 3rd option (“Hold on”) so that you can go to the Inn and save your game before the next strategic battle begins.

This time, the conditions for victory are to destroy the enemy and stay alive. Send in the Duck Clan units to do some heavy damage while Dupa heals and the rest act as cover. If Chris is your FC, keep fighting until Sarah withdraws and you can go for a Safe Retreat. If your FC is either Hugo or Geddoe, hang in there for about 5 turns until the battle pauses to show your Flame Champ’s arrival. Afterwards, the party you selected earlier (along with Aila) engages in a regular battle against Sarah and her minions. Take out all of the Harmonian guards to end the battle. Once the enemy retreats, you’ll automatically return to Brass Castle.

CHAPTER 4 – BRASS CASTLE

After a brief scene, go down to the Warehouse next to the Bujutsu Teacher, which any FC now has access to. You’ll find that everyone’s stuff has been consolidated and there are now 250 slots to store items in. These items are accessible from any of the warehouses in the world. When finished, go upstairs and enter the Knight’s Parlor to trigger another cutscene. What you do next depends on whom you chose as the Flame Champion:

If your FC is Chris, enter the bedroom and speak with Louis to rest. If you selected Hugo, go out to the eastern bridge and speak with Sgt. Joe. If Geddoe is your FC, go to the western courtyard and speak with your comrades. When given dialogue choices, just answer as you see fit. Afterwards, enter the eastern courtyard to advance the story.

Your character will make a speech, during which you’ll have an opportunity to adopt the FC’s name. If you prefer to keep your own, select “I will be the Flame Champion.” Caesar approaches and tells you it’s time to organize units for another strategy battle. If you want to save your game first, ask him to hold on a second; otherwise tell him you’re ready to go.

During this battle, the conditions for victory are to stay alive for X turns, while making sure the base area is not captured. Additionally, your FC’s unit must not die. I recommend staying within 3 circles of the base area at all times for 2 reasons. One, you can heal up injured units quickly by moving back to the base circle and, two, enemies that choose to attack you there will not be able to cover. In general, take out the regular Harmonian units first while avoiding Yuber and Sansarai. Try to position your troops to cover those that will be attacking. After about 5 turns, more ally units show up to help. If you manage to take out all 7 enemy units before the turns end, you’ll score a Major Victory and receive the Silver Shield.

Afterwards, watch a cutscene during which Lilly, Reed, and Samus arrive. Once they join the 108 Stars, return to the Knight’s Parlor to trigger another cutscene. When asked to select a party, you’ll see that all recruits have now been pooled into one big list. This is the last time Hugo, Geddoe, and Chris are allowed to be in the same party until the very end of the game so take advantage of it if you wish. The same holds true with Lucia. Whatever party you choose, exit Brass Castle and head out to the World Map.

CHAPTER 4 – WORLD MAP / TABLET OF STARS (OPTIONAL)

You’ll see every route you’ve ever taken reappear on the map, with one additional location popping up: the Tablet of Stars. Visiting there allows you to see a list of all people recruited so far as well as the slots that are not filled in yet. Names in red indicate those who have died during the course of the game. It is wise to check back here after every strategic battle, as characters can permanently die in them from now on.

Eventually, you need to get to Lake Castle, however feel free to do a bunch of exploring using different combinations of party members first. If you want to change your party at any point before going to Lake Castle, speak to Apple in the Knight’s Parlor at Brass Castle. While exploring, there are a couple of things to keep in mind:

First, try to level up as many recruits as possible and equip them with the best stuff you can afford. Many of them will participate in upcoming strategic battles and the stronger they are, the easier time you’ll have. If you missed out on recruiting those mentioned in earlier chapters, don’t worry. There are plenty of opportunities to get them during Chapter 4. And don’t wear yourself out trying to level them all up at once. Go at a pace that is comfortable and, most of all, fun. Second, try to stop by all the shops in each town you visit from now on so their regular stock becomes available at the shops in Lake Castle. Only Chris can shop at the Guild Hall in VDZ, so if she isn’t your Flame Champion, you’ll have to wait until Chapter 5 to shop there.

CHAPTER 4 - MT. HEI-TOU (OPTIONAL)

Head east until you reach the first intersection. Once there, follow the northern route. At the 2nd intersection, head left into the cul-de-sac where the corpse is. You’ll see an orange colored dog hiding in the grass there. His name is Koroku. Approach him and when prompted, pick the first choice (“Adopt”) so that he joins the 108 Stars.

CHAPTER 4 – LAKE CASTLE

Upon your arrival, watch a cutscene in which you can rename the castle if you like (I’ll continue to refer to it as Lake Castle during this walkthrough, but the World Map now calls it Homeland). Afterwards, explore the grounds to see who and what has been added since your last visit there. You’ll find a new Comment Box inside the castle at the top of the stairs. Next to it you’ll find Arthur’s daily news postings. Thomas will offer his bedroom to the new FC and move out to the ship. The other 2 principle characters will have rooms there, too. Also, Sebastian will no longer swap out party members. It will now be Anne, who you’ll find working behind the bar in the Dinner Theatre.

If you recruited Koroku earlier, you’ll see him outside the Dinner Theatre on the front porch. Approaching him lights up a small pedestal at the Trinity Site in which you can assume the dog’s identity and roam the castle grounds. Return to the porch and talk to the FC to exit the tour at any time. Place any kennels you’ve collected on the porch as well. If you follow the back stairs down to the lower level, you’ll see Mamie has opened a café there. Give her any recipes and spices you’ve collected. Check back occasionally to change the menu and to reap profits.

Approaching Cecile by the front entrance will trigger a scene in which you meet Jefferson, an appointer who automatically joins the 108 Stars (he will not be there if you have either Cecile or Juan in your party or recruited less than 70 people). Jefferson will station himself on the 1st floor of the castle in the room next to the elevator. Give him any Medal Sets you’ve collected and check out his roster. By assigning good titles to people, you can boost their stats. When you’re finished exploring the grounds, put together a party and exit to the World Map.

CHAPTER 4 – GREAT HOLLOW

As soon as you arrive, you’ll see Jimba running towards the Ancient Highway entrance. The group is supposed to follow him there, but you can continue exploring other places in the world first if you wish (if you return to Lake Castle before following Jimba, you’ll see a scene in the Meeting Room where Lucia tells you to go back and find him).

For the moment, visit Great Hollow with Melville and Elliot in your party and you’ll see Alanis standing next to the waterfall. When given a dialogue choice, pick the 1st one to recruit her. If you already recruited both Koroku and Koichi, you’ll find a 3rd dog named Connie within the hollow’s southwestern caves. Go to the opening where you met Twaikin earlier then take the center path down to her. As with the other dogs, choose to adopt her.

CHAPTER 4 – ANCIENT HIGHWAY

Follow the path east until you reach the intersection. You’ll see Yuber and Co. unsealing the rune shrine door there. To advance the story, follow them inside to the Cyndar Ruins. Doing so will end Chapter 4, so you may want to explore other parts of the world first. Skip the optional paragraphs below if you want to get to the Cyndar Ruins right away.

CHAPTER 4 – NORTH CAVERN (OPTIONAL)

Once inside, continue forward until you see a dog behind the crates on the right. His name is Koichi and he’ll join the 108 Stars if you choose to adopt him.

If you haven’t recruited Ayame yet, go to North Cavern with Watari in your party. Where the Treasure Boss usually is, you’ll see a cutscene involving Watari and a female ninja. They will duel each other. If you win, Ayame joins the 108 Stars.

CHAPTER 4 – DUCK VILLAGE (OPTIONAL)

Visit Duck Village with Sgt. Joe in your party. Approach Rhett and Wilder near the left waterwheel to trigger a scene. Once it ends, Rhett and Wilder join the 108 Stars. Go to the Rune Shop and talk to the little girl playing with the dog to get a Thunder Rune. Speak to the Alma Kinan woman in the Tutor’s shop to get a Silver Hammer (give it to Peggi when you return to Lake Castle so she can upgrade weapons to higher levels).

CHAPTER 4 – MOUNTAIN PATH / LAKE CASTLE / CALERIA (OPTIONAL)

Upon your arrival, you’ll meet Viki, a teleportation expert, who literally drops out of the sky. Mention Lake Castle to recruit her. When she offers to teleport the group back to the castle, take her up on the offer.

Back at Lake Castle, speak with Anne at the bar and put Viki in your party. Approach the mirror that is now propped against the wall near the 1st floor elevator. Viki will appear and ask where you want to go. When the World Map pops up, select the Mountain Path as your destination.

Start walking up the Mountain Path again to trigger a scene in which Viki meets a smaller version of herself. When prompted, tell her to “try going to the castle” by herself. Small Viki will then give you the Blinking Mirror, a key item that allows you to teleport back to Lake Castle from any location on the World Map. Once you’ve received it, keep following the Mountain Path towards Caleria.

Fight the new Treasure Boss to free up the route to Caleria (if you want to avoid the boss, use the Blinking Mirror to teleport to Caleria and backtrack up the Mountain Path a little). Once through, keep going forward until you meet Futch, who is looking for the nearest town. When he asks if you know the area well, say yes (the 1st option) to trigger a scene in which the group arrives in Caleria.

Once there, you’ll see a little girl named Sharon running toward the back of town. Chase her down and she’ll run away again. Keep following her until she ends up at the front entrance and bumps into Futch. When the cutscene ends, Futch, Sharon, and Bright (a dragon) join the 108 Stars.

CHAPTER 4 – CHISHA VILLAGE (OPTIONAL)

Put Mio in your party as support then head to Chisha Village either by blinking there or walking. Once there, enter the Inn and go downstairs to the guestrooms. Enter the second door to find Dr. Tuta inside. Now reunited with Mio, Tuta joins the 108 Stars.

CHAPTER 4 – ANCIENT HIGHWAY / CYNDAR RUINS

When you’re ready to advance the story, head east through the Ancient Highway until you reach the intersection. If you did not recruit him earlier, you’ll see Guillaume running around near the shrine opening. If so, approach him to trigger a duel. Afterwards, tell him you are looking for an appraiser and Guillaume will join the 108 Stars. Either way, enter the shrine opening and head north to the Cyndar Ruins.

You’ll reach an area with 3 paths to choose from and a Save Point on the left. The center path leads to a dead end and the path on the right leads to the bad guys, but you might want to explore the left path for items before going there:

LEFT PATH – Head northwest until you reach an intersection. Continuing straight leads to a corpse you can loot. Going left takes you to a dead end, however if you look to the top right corner, you’ll see a sliver of a black tail wagging. This is Kogoro, the final non-star dog. Once he’s finished dancing, choose to adopt him. Going right takes you to the next screen. Once there, head forward until you reach another intersection. The alcove on the left has herbs to pick and the short path on the right has another corpse you can loot. Follow the main path northeast over a bridge and continue straight through until you reach a broken section of wall. Once there, travel east between the broken rocks up a set of stairs and over to a 3rd corpse you can loot. Backtrack to the broken wall and head west to the next screen. Follow the path until you reach another intersection, which should look familiar. Continue along the southern path until you return to the original chamber. Use the Save Point then follow the path on the right.

RIGHT PATH – Head north until you reach an intersection. Go left and continue straight through until you reach an intersection. The right path leads to a dead end and the left path takes you over a bridge to an herb you can pluck. Continue heading northwest (straight) to get out of the maze.

Use the Save Point on the next screen then continue forward to trigger a fight with Sarah and her summoned creatures. Focus on taking Sarah out as the rest will evaporate once she is defeated. The fight is not too hard if your party is leveled up enough. Once victorious, you’ll receive the Armor of Rage.

When you regain control of your character, head north through the fog until a cutscene takes over, during which a powerful ice dragon attacks. Needless to say, water magic is useless on this creature and his ice pillar minions so avoid using it offensively. However, any characters with Water Resist equipment on will have a much easier time defeating this foe. Use Fire and Thunder magic as much as possible, making sure to heal up in between or the enemies will wipe you out before you get another spell off. Have your strongest melee attackers (preferably in a Berserk state) go in to fight off the ice pillars. Once they’re gone, it’s pretty easy to wrap up the battle. Victory gains you a Flowing rune.

Watch the scene that follows. When you regain control of your character, continue north up the icy path until a cutscene takes over. Once the True Water rune is obtained, Chapter 4 ends and you’ll be back at the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 5 (Geddoe)

Save your game if you want; otherwise select chapter 5 from any of the 3 main characters. I started with Geddoe.

CHAPTER 5 – LAKE CASTLE

Sebastian asks if you’d like to retire for the night. To advance the story, answer yes. To explore a little first, answer no. When ready, return to Sebastian in the bedroom and choose to rest. Doing so triggers a cutscene involving the Masked Bishop, whose identity is finally shown. When the scene ends, go outside and approach Cecile by the entrance to trigger another scene in which Franz arrives.

Return to the castle and enter the Meeting Room to watch another scene. When it ends, you’ll take control of Geddoe. He and his mercenary squad are supposed to escort Franz to LeBuque but feel free to roam the world beforehand. If Geddoe is not your FC, this will be the first time you’ve had access to him since chapter 3. At a minimum, return to Lake Castle to add a support character and to upgrade Geddoe’s stats, armor, and weapon. Note that Viki’s teleportation mirror is unavailable right now, so you’ll have to walk.

CHAPTER 5 – LE BUQUE

Watch a scene then approach the center of town. After Franz asks for help in finding Iku, save your game at the Inn then approach the house next door. Once Franz leaves, enter the house and go into the adjoining room to trigger another scene. When it ends, leave town and go to Mt. Senai.

CHAPTER 5 – MT. SENAI

After some dialogue, head north across the winding bridges until you reach an eastern path leading out to a cliff. Outside, you’ll find a dog named Kosanji hanging off the front edge. Choose to adopt him. After he joins the 108 Stars, backtrack to the wooden walkways inside.

Continue north to the back of the cavern. Once there, a cutscene takes over during which you’ll have to fight Sarah and Luc. If Geddoe is not your FC, there’ll be a few summoned creatures to fight off as well. Have Jacques and Aila use their long-range weapons to stop Sarah and Luc from chanting, while the rest of the team uses Lightning spells or their strongest melee attacks. If the other creatures are present, attack them only if you’re having trouble reaching Luc or Sarah. They are mostly fire-based, so if your characters have Fire Resist equipment on, the battle will be a cinch. Once defeated, you’ll receive a Wind Magic ring, however the cutscene that follows suggests more trouble lies ahead.

When the party regains consciousness, they must fight their way out of the cavern by defeating hoards of low-level enemies. None of them should pose much of a threat, yet you’ll be given the choice to pull out in between each round. Always choose to stay and fight. After 3 rounds, Duke’s squad shows up and offers to help. Swallow your pride and respond by saying, “Help us.” In doing so, Duke, Nicolas, Gau, and Elaine join the 108 Stars. Watch the wrap-up scene then head back to Le Buque (you might return there automatically).

CHAPTER 5 – LE BUQUE

Watch a scene wherein Geddoe defends Franz. Once it ends, Franz, Ruby, and Iku join the 108 Stars.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 5 (Chris)

Select Chris’ storyline next.

CHAPTER 5 – LAKE CASTLE

Chris learns she must go to Brass Castle. Salome, Borus, Roland, and Louis accompany her automatically. As before, if Chris is not your FC, this will be the first time you’ve had access to her since chapter 3. Return to Lake Castle (or visit the Guild Hall in Vinay del Zexay) to upgrade her stats, armor, and weapon. You may also choose to add 2 more members to her party.

CHAPTER 5 – BRASS CASTLE

Head across the bridge and enter the western courtyard to trigger a brief scene. When you regain control of Chris, continue through to the eastern courtyard. A cutscene takes over in which Yuri asks the group to escort her to Alma Kinan and Salome prompts you to form party. Borus and Chris are mandatory, so just fill up the other 4 slots. After doing so, exit Brass Castle. Feel free to explore other areas first, though you’ll need to pass through Kuput Forest at some point to advance the story.

CHAPTER 5 – KUPUT FOREST

Head south through the forest until you reach the clearing. Once there, Yuri reveals her true form and a fight ensues. The battle is not terribly hard if you selected strong party members to accompany Chris and Borus. As usual, take out Sarah first so she stops chanting. Once victorious, you’ll receive a Drain rune but give up something in the process. Afterwards, you’ll be back at the Trinity Site.

TRINITY SITE - CHAPTER 5 (Hugo)

Select Hugo’s storyline next.

CHAPTER 5 – LAKE CASTLE

Sgt. Joe asks Hugo to make a round of the castle with him. After he joins, approach Cecile at the front entrance to receive a hint that you should check out the neighboring villages. You’re choices are currently limited to Iksay Village, Mt. Hei-Tou, and Great Hollow, so go to each if you like; otherwise simply leave Lake Castle and immediately return to trigger a cutscene.

Back at Lake Castle, a Zexen Knight arrives with news of an attack on Brass Castle. When prompted, select a party with Hugo and Sgt. Joe as mandatory characters. Note that Lucia is now available on the list. I suggest choosing her if for no other reason than to upgrade her stats and armor. Note that Nash, along with those who accompanied Chris and Geddoe, are currently unavailable. After selecting a party, exit to the World Map.

Hugo will be riding a Karayan horse, making it faster to get to Brass Castle. If you choose to explore other places before going there, you’ll find that some routes are currently off limits, such as the Ancient Highway shortcut from Great Hollow.

CHAPTER 5 – BRASS CASTLE

Watch a short scene heralding the group’s arrival then head through the castle to the eastern courtyard. Though the place looks empty, you can still use all of the castle’s services before going there. Entering the eastern courtyard triggers a cutscene in which Hugo’s group must fight off a few waves of Harmonian soldiers with no rest in between. None of them pose a threat so just slash away. Once finished, Luc & Co. arrive to really stir things up.

Watch the extended cutscene and when Caesar asks if it’s time to launch an attack, tell him to hold off a moment (3rd choice) so you can save your game at the Dormitory. Speaking to Salome allows you to switch party members but it’s really unnecessary since you’re about to start a strategic battle where the participants are predetermined. Return to Caesar to check the roster then tell him you’re ready to begin.

The conditions for victory are to defeat Yuber’s unit while keeping the FC’s unit alive. You’ll start out with 7 squads, some of which have special magic attacks available. These units are important because Yuber cannot be damaged with any form of physical attack. Position those with offensive magic skills as close to him as possible while the rest pursue all other enemy units. Use some for cover if you like, but if you leveled up your recruits well enough, you’ll probably wipe each enemy out without needing to. Using all available magic attacks directly on Yuber’s unit should take his HP down by at least half. Since you cannot finish him off with physical attacks, just focus on the other enemy units while waiting for help to arrive. If Yuber happens to attack one of your units in the meantime, just retreat.

When help arrives, it comes in the most unlikely form. After his initial appearance on the battlefield, Sansarai declares he’s on your side. This is a good thing, since he comes equipped with 2 Lightning spells that provide the finishing blow(s) to Yuber. To score a Major Victory, make sure you wipe out all other enemies before taking Yuber down. If you do, you’ll get a Flowing rune.

After winning the battle, the allied forces return to Lake Castle.

CHAPTER 5 – LAKE CASTLE

Cecile tells you that a group is waiting in the Meeting Room. When you’re ready to advance the story, go there. Inside, Dios and Sansarai inform the allies of the current situation with Luc, and Nash arrives to tell you where to find him. Once the conversation ends, Sansarai and Dios join the 108 Stars. When Caesar asks if you’re ready to pursue Luc, tell him to wait (3rd option).

This is your last chance to roam before the final strategy battle. If you still haven’t recruited all the non-automatic Stars or leveled up your guys, now is a good time to do it. Viki is available for teleportation again to make the task easier (refer to the Extras page, if you’re unsure who you might have missed). Below lists some other things you might want to do. Skip past them if you want to progress the story.

- Put Sansarai and Nash in your party so you can increase their skills and equip them with the best stuff. Do the same with Duke’s team and any recruits you might have skipped earlier. If you don’t want to spend time leveling people up, equip them with Sacrificial Gizos so they have a shot at surviving the upcoming strategic battle.

- Talk to Jefferson and assign titles to people for a stat boost, especially those who will be participating in the final strategic battle (the story VIPs, for example).

- Visit Iksay to purchase a Gold Hammer in the Item Shop’s Rarity section. Give it to Peggi so she can sharpen weapons to their maximum level of 16.

Make sure to save your game before returning to Caesar in the Meeting Room. When he asks if you’re ready, pick the 1st option. Once Sasarai and Dios join, exit the castle to trigger a scene and begin the final strategy battle.

CHAPTER 5 – CEREMONIAL SITE

The conditions for victory are to eliminate Yuber’s unit while keeping the FC’s unit alive. You begin with 10 units against the enemies’ 12. If any of your units gets hit badly with magic attacks, use a turn to heal. This is important because people (other than unit commanders) can die in this battle, thus eliminating your chance of getting the 108 Stars bonus sequence at the end of the game.

Take out Sarah’s unit before you eliminate 5 others or she will keep summoning more enemies to the area. Lightning spells work well against her so position those that have the capability within 2 circles of hers. Once she’s gone, use your remaining magic units to soften up Yuber then go in for the kill. As usual, it is helpful to have your weaker units act as cover while the stronger ones attack. If you score a Major Victory, you’ll receive a Wind Hat.

Watch the cutscene that follows, in which your 3 main characters (along with Sansarai) split up to reclaim a different True Rune – Lightning, Water, and Fire respectively. The people that retrieve them depends on who your FC is:

- If FC is Hugo, Geddoe will go for True Lightning and Chris will go for True Water.
- If FC is Chris, Geddoe will go for True Lightning and Hugo will go for True Water.
- If FC is Geddoe, Hugo will go for True Lightning and Chris will go for True Water.

Before each of the 3 journeys, you will be asked to choose a party. You can select anyone to accompany the main characters, but if you take their default parties, you’ll see a special scene as each one enters the passageway to get their True Rune back. The default teams are:

- Chris, Borus, Percival, Roland, Salome, Leo, and Louis (support)
- Geddoe, Queen, Jacques, Aila, Joker, and Ace (doesn’t matter who supports)
- Hugo, Sgt. Joe, Fubar (doesn’t matter who else is in the party or supporting)

At this point in the game, you can still roam anywhere in the world. Speak to Apple at the Ceremonial Site to change party members or go to Lake Castle and do this with Anne. Now would be a good time to visit the Tablet of Stars to see if you are missing any recruits. You should have all names filled in by now and only 2 should be in red. If more than 2 died or you are still missing some, you won’t be able to unlock the final pedestal at the Trinity Site at the end of the game. You can continue recruiting up until the final boss battle but that is coming up soon enough, so go ahead and get them now if you can (refer to the Extras page if you’re unsure who you might have missed).

When the first team is ready, return to the Ceremonial Site and enter the upper right passage to face Yuber and reclaim the True Lightning rune.

Yuber will be accompanied by 3 Skeletons and a HellSteed. Yuber’s attacks are mostly thunder-based while his minons use fire spells, so if you have resistance to those elements equipped, the fight will be much easier. Yuber, as always, is tough to hit with regular melee attacks. Only those with high Speed skills can really get to him, so try using your most powerful magic spells to take him down. Use healing herbs or Kindness Drops frequently to keep your comrades alive for as long as possible. Once Yuber is defeated, you’ll receive a Reflection Ring and the True Lightning Rune will be re-attached to your main character automatically.

When you take control of your second party, you can wander around the world as before. When ready, return to the Ceremonial Site and enter the upper left passageway to face Sarah and reclaim the True Water rune.

A few HorroBeasts and Azzodess accompany Sarah. They are much tougher than Yuber’s gang. In fact, they are almost impossible to beat unless you have someone in your party with a Flowing rune attached that can cast Silent Lake on the first turn. After that, use melee attacks and concentrate on taking down the enemies one at a time. Heal with herbs and you should be able to hack them down in no time. Once victorious, you’ll receive a Flowing rune and the True Water Rune will be reattached automatically to your main character.

After obtaining the first two runes, watch a cutscene involving Sasarai and Dios. Thomas and Cecile will also be present if you didn’t use them in the battles against Yuber and Sarah. When it ends, your FC will be asked to get the True Fire Rune. Put together a serviceable party and enter the center passageway above. At the end of the path, watch a cutscene between Caesar and an old friend. Afterwards, your FC automatically receives the True Fire Rune. Use the Save Point on the right then approach the open door. During the next cutscene, you’ll be asked to form a party. Note that you can put Geddoe, Hugo, and Chris in the same party now.

Approach the final platform to trigger another cutscene, during which your FC will fight off two groups of Guardians that pose no real threat. When given the choice to fall back and regroup, do so, because it’s your last chance to roam before facing the final boss. Once you’ve completed all other business in the world, return to the platform and tell your party that you are ready to proceed.

The final battle is against a True Wind bird surrounded by elemental orbs that have been powered up by all other True Runes. To win, you just need to defeat the bird, but taking out the orbs removes its ability to cast multiple spells. Your first priority is to take out the Water orb so it stops healing the others. Clear the path by taking out the Lightning orb; otherwise you can only hit the Water orb with long-range attacks. Once both orbs are gone, start pounding on the bird. If you see the Earth orb cast a spell where stone columns fly around and a bright yellow disc with symbols appears on the ground, do not cast any offensive magic, as it will be reflected back at you. In general, party members with high Magic Resistance will have a better shot at surviving this battle.

After you defeat the bird, watch some cutscenes featuring Thomas, Cecile, Fred, Rico, Dios and Sasarai. If you took any of these characters to the final battle, you won’t see their specific scene. You’ll see additional scenes if you took the FC’s default party into the final battle, or had Futch or Big Viki in the top slot of your formation. Afterwards, watch a wrap-up scene with your FC then view a roll call showing what happened in the aftermath to all of your recruits. Finally, a drawing of your FC is shown.

If you got the 108 Stars of Destiny bonus, hit X after the still picture. The screen will go dark for a moment then you’ll be back at the Trinity Site. The 6th and final flame will be lit. Click on it to find out what it unlocks.
