To use Dragon Shouts, you need two things:  A DRAGON SOUL and a WORD OF POWER.  Words of Power are obtained by reading “word walls” that are scattered throughout Skyrim. Dragon Souls are obtained by killing dragons.  Each Dragon Shout consists of three Words of Power – the strength of the Shout grows with each word added.  To unlock a Dragon Shout, imbue a Word of Power with a Dragon Soul by pressing [Square].  To use the Shout, equip it on your “mouth” by pressing [X].  Once equipped, hold and release the R2 button to “exhale” the word (or words).  Every Shout has a cooldown period, represented by a bar at the top of the screen.

Below is a list of all DRAGON SHOUTS, listed alphabetically by name.  Visit all three locations to learn the entire Shout in any order you wish (the Word of Power you learn is based on which location you visit first):

A N I M A L   A L L E G I A N C E

  • Words of Power:     Animal / Allegiance / Pack
  • Wall Locations:        Ancient’s Ascent / Angarvunde / Ysgramor’s Tomb
  • Description:                 Call forth beasts of the wild to assist you in battle 

ANCIENT’S ASCENT is a dragon lair southwest of Helgen.  To reach the peak, you need to go through Bonechill Passage.  ANGARVUNDE is a Nordic tomb directly west of Riften.  Entering the tomb triggers the miscellaneous quest, “Medresi Dran”.  To access YSGRAMOR’S TOMB, you must start the Companion’s quest, “Glory of the Dead”.

A U R A   W H I S P E R

  • Words of Power:     Life / Seek / Hunt
  • Wall Locations:        Northwind Summit / Valthume / Volunruud
  • Shout Description:   Reveals hidden life forms in surrounding area

NORTHWIND SUMMIT is a dragon lair northwest of Shor’s Stone.  To reach the summit, pass through Northwind Mine (its entrance is on the northeast side of the mountain).  VALTHUME is a Draugr-filled barrow located southeast of Markarth.  Entering the barrow triggers the side quest, “Evil in Waiting”.  VOLUNRUUD is a tomb located in between Morthal and Whiterun.  Entering the tomb triggers the side quest, “Silenced Tongues” and is also associated with Dark Brotherhood contracts.

B E C O M E   E T H E R E A L

  • Words of Power:     Fade / Spirit / Bind
  • Wall Locations:        Ironbind Barrow / Lost Valley Redoubt / Ustengrav
  • Shout Description:   While ethereal, you cannot harm or be harmed

IRONBIND BARROW is a Nordic ruin located east of Nightgate Inn.  Entering the barrow triggers the miscellaneous quest, “Salma and Beem-Ja”.  LOST VALLEY REDOUBT is a huge Forsworn encampment located between Markarth and Falkreath.  To access USTENGRAV, you must start the Main Quest, “The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller”. 

C A L L   D R A G O N

  • Words of Power:     Snow / Hunter / Wing
  • Wall Locations:        High Hrothgar
  • Shout Description:   Summons a dragon to assist you in battle (outdoors only)

All three Words are learned during the Main Quest, “The Fallen”.  No Dragon Souls are needed.

C A L L   O F   V A L O R

  • Words of Power:     Hero / Champion / Legend
  • Wall Locations:        Sovngarde
  • Shout Description:   Summons the “heroes of old” to assist you in battle.

All three Words are learned during the Main Quest, “Dragonslayer”.  No Dragon Souls are needed.

C L E A R   S K I E S

  • Words of Power:     Sky / Spring / Summer
  • Wall Locations:        High Hrothgar
  • Shout Description:   Clears inclement weather and fog

All three Words are learned during the Main Quest, “The Throat of the World”.  No Dragon Souls are needed.

D I S A R M

  • Words of Power:     Weapon / Hand / Defeat
  • Wall Locations:        Eldersblood Peak / Silverdrift Lair / Snow Veil Sanctum
  • Shout Description:   Disarms your opponent

ELDERSBLOOD PEAK is a dragon lair located in the mountains south of Morthal.  SILVERDRIFT LAIR is a Draugr-filled ruin northwest of Nightgate Inn.  To access SNOW VEIL SACTUM, you must start the Thieves Guild quest, “Speaking With Silence”.

D I S M A Y

  • Words of Power:     Fear / Run / Terror
  • Wall Locations:        Dead Crone Rock / Lost Tongue Overlook / Shalidor’s Maze
  • Shout Description:   Invokes fear, causing enemies to flee in terror

DEAD CRONE ROCK is a hagraven tower southwest of Markarth.  To reach it, you need to pass through the Forsworn camp, Hag Rock Redoubt.  The tower is normally visited during the Daedric quest “Pieces of the Past”.  LOST TONGUE OVERLOOK is a dragon lair in the mountains south of Riften.  SHALIDOR’S MAZE is a section of Labyrinthian, which is southeast of Morthal.  The maze’s entrance is on the east side of the exterior grounds. 

D R A G O N R E N D  

  • Words of Power:     Mortal / Finite / Temporary
  • Wall Locations:        Throat of the World
  • Shout Description:   Forces dragons to land and weakens their spirit

All three Words are learned during the Main Quest, “Alduin’s Bane”.  No Dragon Souls are needed.

E L E M E N T A L   F U R Y

  • Words of Power:     Air / Battle / Grace
  • Wall Locations:        Dragontooth Crater / Shriekwind Bastion / Statue to Meridia
  • Shout Description:   Allows for faster weapon strikes

DRAGONTOOTH CRATER is a dragon lair north of Karthwasten.  SHRIEKWIND BASTION is a small Nordic ruin north of Falkreath, usually inhabited by vampires.  The STATUE TO MERIDIA is south of Solitude.  Approaching the statue triggers the Daedric quest, “The Break of Dawn”.  The word wall is actually northeast from the statue, just up the hill.

F I R E   B R E A T H

  • Words of Power:     Fire / Inferno / Sun
  • Wall Locations:        Dustman’s Cairn / Sunderstone Gorge / Throat of the World
  • Shout Description:   Burn enemies with fire

To access the word wall in DUSTMAN’S CAIRN, you must complete the Companions quest, “Proving Honor”.  SUNDERSTONE GORGE is a warlock-infested cave west of Bloated Man’s Grotto.  To access the THROAT OF THE WORLD, you must start the Main Quest, “The Throat of the World”.  You will not need a Dragon Soul to unlock the word learned there.

F R O S T   B R E A T H

  • Words of Power:     Frost / Cold / Freeze
  • Wall Locations:        Bonestrewn Crest / Folgunthur / Skyborn Altar
  • Shout Description:   Chill enemies with ice

BONESTREWN CREST is a dragon lair south of Windhelm.  FOLGUNTHUR is a Nordic ruin southeast of Solitude.  It is associated with the side quest, “Forbidden Legend”.  SKYBORN ALTAR is a dragon lair southeast of Morthal.  Look for stairs leading up to the top on the south side of the mountain.

I C E   F O R M

  • Words of Power:     Ice / Flesh / Statue
  • Wall Locations:        Frostmere Crypt / Mount Anthor / Saarthal
  • Shout Description:   Freeze enemies solid

FROSTMERE CRYPT is a Nordic ruin southwest of Dawnstar.  Entering the crypt triggers the side quest, “The Pale Lady”.  MOUNT ANTHOR is a dragon lair southwest of Winterhold.  To access the word wall in SAARTHAL, you must complete the College of Winterhold quest, “Under Saarthal”.

K Y N E ' S   P E A C E

  • Words of Power:     Kyne / Peace / Trust
  • Wall Locations:        Ragnvald / Rannveig’s Fast / Shroud Hearth Barrow
  • Shout Description:   Calm beasts, who lose their desire to fight or flee

RAGNVALD is a Draugr-filled ruin north of Markarth.  Entering the ruin triggers the miscellaneous quest, “Otar the Mad”.  RANNVEIG’S FAST is a ruin in the mountains south of Morthal.  Ghosts inhabit the tomb and entering it triggers the miscellaneous quest “Sild the Warlock”.  SHROUD HEARTH BARROW is right next door to Ivarstead.   The haunted barrow is part of a miscellaneous quest offered by Ivarstead’s innkeeper, Wilhelm.

M A R K E D   F O R   D E A T H

  • Words of Power:     Kill / Leech / Suffer
  • Wall Locations:        Autumnwatch Tower / Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary / Forsaken Cave
  • Shout Description:   Decrease an enemy’s armor rating & health regen rate

AUTUMNWATCH TOWER is located south of Ivarstead.  The pair of ruined towers house bandits as well as a dragon.  To access the word wall in DARK BROTHERHOOD SANCTUARY, you must complete the Dark Brotherhood quest, “Sanctuary”.  FORSAKEN CAVE is a Draugr-filled crypt located west of Windhelm.  It is normally visited during the side quest, “The White Phial”.

S L O W   T I M E

  • Words of Power:     Time / Sand / Eternity
  • Wall Locations:        Hag’s End / Korvanjund / Labyrinthian
  • Shout Description:   Slows enemy movements

To reach HAG’S END, you must pass through Deepwood Redoubt, which is in the mountains west of Dragon Bridge.  The area is heavily occupied by Forsworn and hagravens.  To access the word wall in KORVANJUND, you must complete the Civil War quest, “The Jagged Crown”.  Both sides (Stormcloaks and Imperials) offer the Crown quest.  To access the word wall in LABYRINTHIAN, you must complete the College of Winterhold quest, “The Staff of Magnus”.

S T O R M   C A L L

  • Words of Power:     Storm / Wrath / Lightning
  • Wall Locations:        Forelhost / High Gate Ruins / Skuldafn Temple
  • Shout Description:   Cast an area-effect lightning storm

FORELHOST is a ruined fortress that sits on a mountaintop southeast of Riften.  Talking to the captain camped next to the fort triggers the side quest “Siege on the Dragon Cult”.  HIGH GATE RUINS is a Nordic tomb directly west of Dawnstar.  Entering the tomb triggers the side quest, “A Scroll for Anska”.  To access the word wall in SKULDAFN TEMPLE, you must complete the Main Quest, “The World-Eater’s Eyrie”.

T H R O W   V O I C E

  • Words of Power:     Voice / Fool / Far
  • Wall Locations:        Shearpoint
  • Shout Description:   Fool opponents away from your location

SHEARPOINT is a dragon lair to the north of High Hrothgar.  The peak is visible from Fellglow Keep. All three Words of Power are written on Shearpoint’s wall – but you will have to defeat a Dragon Priest as well a dragon to reach it.

U N R E L E N T I N G   F O R C E

  • Words of Power:     Force / Balance / Push
  • Wall Locations:        Bleak Falls Barrow / High Hrothgar
  • Shout Description:   Push opponents back and briefly stagger them

Two words are learned at HIGH HROTHGAR during the Main Quests “The Way of the Voice” and “The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller” (they do not require Dragon Souls).  The BLEAK FALLS BARROW word can also be learned during the Main Questline but you’ll need a Dragon Soul to unlock it.

W H I R L W I N D   S P R I N T

  • Words of Power:     Whirlwind / Fury / Tempest
  • Wall Locations:        Dead Men’s Respite / High Hrothgar / Volskygge
  • Shout Description:   Rapidly dash forward

DEAD MEN’S RESPITE is a Nordic ruin southwest of Morthal.  It is normally visited during the Bards College side quest, “Tending the Flames”.  To learn the HIGH HROTHGAR word, you must complete the Main Quest, “The Way of the Voice” (it does not require a Dragon Soul).  VOLSKYGGE is in the coastal mountains west of Solitude.  The word wall is guarded by a Dragon Priest.
