When you start a new game, select a level of difficulty (Easy or Normal) and learn about the AutoSave feature in FFXIII-2. If you played FFXIII and have at least one save file on your Playstation 3 system you'll receive an ETERNAL CRYSTAL, which becomes useful later on. Note that this guide combines the main storyline with all optional missions in the order that I completed them. Optional sections can be tackled at any point during your journey or skipped altogether. After a dynamic main title sequence, the game begins:

PROLOGUE

VALHALLA ???AF

Watch the opening cutscene, during which Lightning (the heroine from FFXIII) faces off against a mysterious adversary named Caius. As Lightning summons Odin to help her, Caius summons a creature of his own.

BOSS >> Chaos Bahamut

During this tutorial fight, you are introduced to the game’s ACTIVE TIME BATTLE system. Input actions manually or select ‘Auto-Battle’ to have your character determine the best actions in a given situation. Lightning is very resilient, so pretty much any action you choose will work fine. Towards the end, a CINEMATIC ACTION SEQUENCE occurs. Quickly input the correct buttons when they appear on screen:

CAS: UP > X

Eventually, Caius arrives to challenge Lightning. During the next CAS, press the correct buttons to damage him:

CAS: Tap Square > Square or Circle > Square or Circle > UP > Square or Circle > X > RIGHT > Circle > X

Lightning successfully escapes and witnesses a young man falling through the time gate. After catching Noel, the two fight Bahamut again in the air.

BOSS >> Chaos Bahamut

Although Lightning’s attacks are different, use the same strategy as the first round.

Scene follows where Lightning hands Noel a special weapon to give to her sister then sends him on his way...

EPISODE 1

NEW BODHUM 003AF

After a meteor falls from the sky, you take control of Lightning’s sister, Serah, in NORA House. Change settings during the CAMERA CONTROL tutorial and read DATALOG entries, which have just been added to the Main Menu. Exit the bedroom to initiate the first of many LIVE TRIGGER events:

LT - Dreams of strange worlds...

During Live Triggers, you are given options on how to respond. Your choices will affect the quality of prizes received throughout the game. Press [Circle] to hop over debris in the living room then go outside for another LT:

LT - Where’s the village?

Walk through the foggy distortion until a scene takes over showing monsters attacking villagers on the beach. Noel arrives and hands you the weapon Lightning gave him. After fighting the first group of monsters, a PARADIGM SHIFT tutorial tells you how to switch roles during battle using the L1 button. Watch it then defeat all remaining monsters on the beach with Noel.

After a cutscene, follow Noel to the fence. Hop over and talk to him on the shore for an LT:

LT - Strange young man said he met Lightning...

Follow the walkway up towards the cliffs to initiate a MOG CLOCK tutorial, which explains how random encounters work in FFXIII2. When monsters appear, a clock starts counting down on screen. Press X when standing in front of an enemy to engage them or quickly run outside of the battle circle to avoid confrontation. The type of battle that ensues depends on the color of the clock:

- Green: Preemptive (characters strike once before the battle begins and bonus points are earned at the end of battle)
- Yellow: Standard fight
- Red: Forced fight (cannot retry battle)

Hop up onto the [Winding Way] and open a treasure sphere to receive 3 Potions. Talk to Noel for another LT:

LT - Noel is staring at Cocoon...

Continue following Noel until something grabs Mog’s attention. Examine the sphere in front of Mog to get a MAP OF NEW BODHUM. A Primer explains how to reorient them (default is set to north) and see the percentage of area covered.

To the north, an LT with Gadot:

LT - Gadot seems concerned...

Double back, taking the western slope up to a sphere containing a Librascope (when used in battle, the item shows enemy stats). Go north across some logs to witness another time distortion. On the other side, seek out Yuj for an LT:

LT - Yuj seems curious about my new attire...

Get a Phoenix Down from the sphere up ahead then talk to Maqui in the n/w corner:

LT - Let’s ask Maqui what he thinks...

Follow the n/e path until a scene takes over.

BOSS >> Gogmagog

A primer explains the Sentinel’s role. Switch to SEN/SEN Paradigm whenever the boss readies his Swipe attack. Use COM/RAV and COM/COM sets at all other times.

After the battle, you receive the GOGMAGOG FRAGMENT ALPHA + 500CP. There are a total of 160 Fragments scattered throughout the game, each representing a particular memory. Fragments you’ve collected can be viewed in the main menu now.

Continue forward to the [Meteorite Impact Site]. Pick up 300 Gil from the treasure sphere on the right and look for one on the lower ledge near the crater jump point, partially hidden on the left. It contains 2 Gysahl Greens (you’ll use these to ride chocobos later on). Examine the meteor for a scene during which Noel theorizes on ‘artefacts’ and their relationship to time gates.

In the morning, PARTY PARADIGMS and CRYSTARIUM are added to the main menu. Use the Crystarium to level up characters and customize Party Paradigms to suit your fighting style. The treasure cube that appears in the room contains your first LIVE TRIGGER REWARD. Contents vary depending on choices you made during LT events thus far. I received Lebreau’s Olive Tattoo, a monster adornment that can be used later on. Note that skipping any LTs results in receiving a Potion.

After setting Paradigms and applying CP, exit the bedroom and talk to the NORA crew gathered in the house, especially Lebreau for an LT:

LT - Lebreau was injured...

Go outside to trigger a primer on the MOOGLE’S BOBBLE, which will shine near areas of interest. Talk to Noel for an LT:

LT - Noel wants to search for an artefact...

Speak with Lebreau outside NORA House for some backstory then examine the palm tree near the gate to acquire LIGHTNING’S KNIFE. After Serah’s flashback, talk to Noel for two more LTs:

LT - Only I remember Lightning...
LT - An artefact is something that doesn’t belong...

Talk to the woman sitting on the beach and accept your first sidequest:

MISSION: Heart Prism - Help Nell find her lost medical kit.

Quests are entirely optional; all offer Fragments plus CP bonuses as a reward. You can accept up to two missions at once in each location although some cannot be completed right away.

Head down the beach towards the huts where Mog’s bobble lights up. Examine the white cat on the stairs. Chase it up to the landing then over to the s/w corner of the village. En route, examine a small vegetable patch in between the huts to trigger an LT:

LT - In the future, Noel says...

Watch a scene upon catching the cat then participate in another LT:

LT - Friends are like family...

Approach the kids gathered on the beach for a scene and another LT:

LT - Noel’s grandmother...

Upon seeing Maqui, one of the kids runs off. Chase him up the cliffs. When you finally catch up with Rhett, talk to him for a couple of LTs:

LT - This boy’s hiding something...
LT - Give it one more shot...

Answer [X] then [Triangle] for the best result. After the boy hands over SNOW’S NECKLACE, watch a flashback, then:

LT - Snow has been gone a long time...

Head back to the village, stopping to talk to Noel before jumping down to the beach:

LT - Noel is asking about Snow...

Watch a scene upon entering the village. When it ends, go back to the house. Examine a mirror that has appeared in the bedroom to receive the GIANT’S ARTEFACT, as well as a cube containing your second LIVE TRIGGER REWARD (I got an Aqua Ribbon). Leave the house for a cutscene then walk back to the impact site.

Take the n/e route now that the tides have receded to pick up two treasure spheres containing an Iron Bangle and Phoenix Down. On the left, you may notice a transparent object floating above the metal tile. Ignore it for now and continue heading towards the impact site.

BOSS >> Gogmagog

The boss erects a barrier at the start, making it difficult to injure him until staggered. Apart from that, use the same strategy as before.

After the battle, you receive GOGMAGOG FRAGMENT BETA + 1000CP and a Chocobo shows up. To ride a chocobo, press X to feed it a Gysahl Green. While mounted, monsters will not attack the party and you can still talk to people, collect treasures, etc. Also, chocobos can reach certain places that humans cannot. For now, hop on the big yellow chicken and head n/w to find a treasure cube containing Nell’s MEDICAL KIT. Go back to town and give it to her to earn the HEART PRISM FRAGMENT + 50CP.

Return to the impact site afterwards and examine the shiny time gate for an LT:

LT - Ready to leave?

Choose [Triangle] to leave New Bodhum 003AF and watch the scene that follows.

The party ends up in HISTORIA CRUX, which serves as the game’s overworld - essentially a collection of nodes showing all locations unlocked in the timeline. From now on, you can access Historia Crux by pressing the [Select] button and freely travel between locations/eras any time you choose. The Giant’s Artefact just unlocked one new location: Bresha Ruins 005AF. Press X on the node to continue your journey.

EPISODE 2

BRESHA RUINS 005AF

A giant mechanical arm attacks as soon as the party arrives.

BOSS >> Atlas

This particular monster is capable of WOUNDING characters. When wounded, your maximum HP is diminished and normal potions will only heal HP up to the new level. Special potions restore full HP to a wounded character but since you don’t have any in your inventory, just keep fighting the boss until a CAS takes over:

CAS: Right

Inputting the correct button negates all damage from Atlas’ attack, plus it imbues Bravery on Noel and Faith on Serah. Continue fighting the boss until another CAS occurs:

CAS: Right > Up > X

After depleting the majority of Atlas’s health, the army arrives:

CAS: Tap [Triangle] repeatedly

If you perfected all CAS inputs, you’ll receive a bonus item during Battle Results: SILVER GEAR. During the LT that follows, talk to the Captain and end up in jail. While in the holding cell, speak with Noel...

LT - There’s something about this world that’s different...

...and then talk to the Sentry twice:

LT - Prisoners held by the Academy...
LT - Gran elevator...

A girl arrives and tells the Sentry you are VIPs. Talk to the Sentry once more to be released. After a cutscene, follow Alyssa:

LT - Alyssa lied to set us free...

Continue following her until she stops. Talk to Alyssa to get an ACADEMY COMMUNICATOR and MAP OF THE BRESHA RUINS. The ability to CHANGE PARTY LEADER is now added to the main menu. Note that I switched to Noel for the remainder of the game, so LTs will be initiated from his perspective from now on. A primer explains that three types of gates exist in the world:

- Scorched Gates: Red/brown gates you arrive through; they always remain active
- Shiny Gates: Gold/orange gates are activated using specific artefacts
- Crystal Gates: White/blue gates require Wild Artefacts and lead to optional areas

Before tracking down Atlas, explore the [Excavation Site]. Going east from Alyssa, you’ll find Chocolina, a traveling merchant that will be popping up all over the place from now on. Purchase new weapons for Serah and Noel, and stock items as you see fit. Look behind the pillars near Chocolina to claim a Black Belt. South of her, you’ll find a sphere with 350 Gil.

The sphere floating in the center cannot be obtained yet; instead, climb the stairs near the scorched gate to find two available treasures - in the s/e corner, a sphere with 400 Gil and in the s/w corner, a cube containing the ‘LEAVING’ GATE SEAL. Gate Seals allow you to reverse time in previously visited locations (in this case, New Bodhum 003AF) so that you can replay areas to correct mistakes, make new choices, etc. Note that you retain all experience and quest fragments when replaying areas.

For now, continue exploring Bresha Ruins 005AF by taking the stairs in the n/e corner up to [Echoes of the Past]. Open a sphere to get 2 Potions then continue forward for an event battle. Defeating the Cait Sith and Zwerg Scandroid earns you their MONSTER CRYSTALS and unlocks PARADIGM PACKS in the main menu.

A tutorial explains how monsters fill up the 3rd slot in your party. Every monster has a specific role that can be leveled up in the Crystarium using graded materials instead of CP. Some grow quickly whereas others level up slowly (late bloomers) becoming much stronger overall. A pack consists of 3 monsters that behave as one unit during battle - they heal and sustain damage simultaneously whether they are present in the active paradigm or not. Every monster comes with a unique FERAL LINK ability that can be activated once their meter fills up. Press [Square] and follow the on-screen prompts during the creature’s CAS to use the Feral Link during battle. You can further modify captured monsters in the main menu’s Monster tab:

- Infusion: Have one monster absorb the skills of another.
- Adornments: Gecorate a monster strictly for fun
- Rename: Give your monster a unique name
- Release: Free a captured monster

Walk up the next flight of stairs to witness a scene with Atlas then speak with your teammate. Examine the shiny gate up ahead to trigger an LT:

LT - Need a key to open...

Look for a soldier in the vicinity wearing a red uniform. The Captain offers a quest:

MISSION: Bring two capsules to the Captain.

Moving forward, speak with the guard next to Mog when his bobble lights up. Doing so unlocks the MOOGLE HUNT skill, which allows you to reveal out-of-phase objects. Press R1 when standing next to Mog to uncover a WILD ARTEFACT. Wild Artefacts open crystal gates that lead to optional timelines. There are ten such gates in the world and an equal amount of Wild Artefacts to find.

In the same area, talk to a soldier named Chester, who wants you to defeat a powerful monster somewhere in the ruins. Accept the quest.

MISSION: Defeat the Cie’th.

Chocolina is stationed south of the shiny gate if you need supplies; otherwise, head west into the tunnel. At the t-junction, turn left. Hop down a few wide stairs to find a sphere that contains CAPSULE #1. Return to the junction above and go south into the underground waterway.

Explore the eastern corner for a sphere containing 8 Mana Droplets and talk to your partner for a dialog scene. Afterwards, head west and examine the shiny gate in the center to trigger an LT:

LT - Gates may be appearing in other places...

Have Mog reveal a sphere to the west by pressing R1. Collect a Rune Bracelet from it then pass through the tunnel. Back outside, head east and look for a hidden sphere on the left near the metal walkway. Press R1 to have Mog reveal CAPSULE #2. Bring both capsules back to the Captain to earn the UNIO MYSTICA FRAGMENT + 100CP.

Backtrack west now then go north to witness an event with Atlas. Move forward for an LT:

LT - Fight Atlas head-on or take our chances with the device...

You cannot beat Atlas at current levels so choose to locate the device. Open a sphere with 2 Gysahl Greens up ahead then ascend the ramp on the left. Follow the tunnel into another part of the underground waterway. Visit Chocolina on the dock then enter the n/w passage to find the Cie’th. Defeat it to earn a GHAST FRAGMENT + 600CP. Have Mog reveal a sphere using R1 to receive a Star Pendant then enter the dead-end. Speak with your teammate for an LT...

LT - In the future, it’s taught...

...then backtrack east. Open a sphere on the center dock to get an Orange Newsboy Cap then continue heading east into a room. Upon finding the device, the party is pulled into a Temporal Rift where you must solve puzzles in order to escape.

There are 3 types of TEMPORAL RIFT puzzles that appear throughout the game: Tiles, Constellations, and Clocks. In this case, red tiles vanish as soon as you step on them. The goal is to collect all crystals on the floor using a route that gets you to the gate on the far end. After completing 3 tile trials, the party returns to the device room and receives a DELICATE CRYSTAL FRAGMENT + 200CP. Examine the device to weaken Atlas then leave the tunnels via the center dock.

You’ll find Chocolina outside as well as a sphere containing a Phoenix Down. Check your paradigms before moving forward to face Atlas.

BOSS >> Atlas (weakened)

Work on building up its Stagger Gauge. When Atlas lets out a yell, it inflicts Curse. Have Cait Sith Esuna everyone so that you’re not interrupted while launching attacks. Upon staggering Atlas, it slumps over and takes normal damage from both magic and physicals. Continue the assault until a CAS takes over:

CAS: RIGHT - Circle - RIGHT - X - RIGHT - X - RIGHT - X

Scoring a ‘perfect’ during the CAS nets you a Fragment Crystal adornment. Certain areas are restored once the paradox dissipates and an LT occurs:

LT - The paradox may have been caused by someone...

Afterwards, you obtain the ATLAS FRAGMENT + 2500CP. Enter the [Lamentable Rest] cemetery and examine the tall epitaph for a scene. When you regain control, have Mog reveal a hidden object floating in the n/e corner to get the ECLIPSE ARTEFACT. Left of this, find a cube containing a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD (I received a Lucky Clover). Hold off on riding the chocobo for now.

Talk to the man (Jed) standing near a gravestone and accept his quest.

MISSION: Bring Jed a silver petal.

The flower he seeks cannot be retrieved during this time period; you’ll be returning here later. For now, have Mog retrieve another artefact tucked behind bars to the west. It contains the REUNION ARTEFACT, which unlocks the gate inside the tunnel. Before opening any time portals, hop on a chocobo and ride back towards the Excavation Site.

When you reach the stairs, walk onto the collapsed slab and hold down [Circle] to have the chocobo glide over the wall into the grassy patch below. Open a sphere in the lower corner to get 8 Power Droplets then dismount the bird. Have Mog reveal a hidden object on the north end to receive GRAVITON CORE BETA FRAGMENT.

There are 7 Graviton Core fragments hidden within various time periods and you’ll need to collect at least 5 of them to progress in the game later on. You can retrieve another one right now by revisiting New Bodhum 003AF. Press the ‘Start’ button to return to Historia Crux. A primer explains how to close gates but that is not necessary at the moment. Just press X on New Bodhum 003AF to travel there.

Optional - NEW BODHUM 003AF (2nd visit)

From the meteor impact site, follow the s/e path down to [Tidal Shallows]. Look for a metal tile on the ground with a hidden object floating on top. Press R1 to have Mog reveal the GRAVITON CORE ALPHA FRAGMENT, which also nets you 500CP. Travel back to Bresha Ruins 005AF when you’re ready to proceed with the story.

BRESHA RUINS 005AF - continued

Back in Bresha, hop over the wall and walk down to the [Excavation Site]. Look for a hidden sphere behind the crates on the right. Have Mog reveal it to collect a Librascope. Next, go to the n/w holding cell area to reveal a treasure cube containing PERSONAL NOTES. Look for a woman named Cordelia walking around nearby. Accept her quest:

MISSION: Find Cordelia’s personal notes.

Hand over the notes you just found to earn the ARS SYMPHONICA FRAGMENT + 100CP. Now return to the holding cell area and speak with the guard (Morris) posted there. Accept his quest:

MISSION: Find Morris’s comm device.

In order to find the device, you’ll need to unlock the cell door behind Morris. Since you don’t have a key yet, head back to the shiny gate in [Echoes of the Past]. Use the Eclipse Artefact to open it and watch the scene that follows. A new node opens in Historia Crux. Pick Yaschas Massif 010AF as your next destination.

EPISODE 3

YASCHAS MASSIF 010AF

After a cutscene, have Mog reveal a sphere on the western edge that contains a Metal Armband. Open a sphere on the east side to get 500 Gil then speak with the Researcher who hands over a MAP OF THE YASCHAS MASSIF. Talk to the man again for an LT:

LT - Eclipse is the result of Fenrir...

Afterwards hop down into the [Pass of Paddra]. After crossing the metal bridge, you’ll see a floating sphere you cannot open yet. Proceed until you reach a woman standing under a lamp. A primer explains that you should follow the searchlights up ahead to avoid monster encounters. If you happen to get caught in the dark areas, you’ll likely stumble upon a Feral Behemoth. Try fighting the fierce creature or just run to the nearest light to avoid an encounter.

Either way, look for a few treasures as you head north through the searchlight area. Tucked against the cliffs, you’ll find spheres containing 960 Gil, 8 Mana Slivers, and 8 Mana Bolts, as well as a cube holding the TABLET OF PADDRA. Chocolina is standing under a lamp up ahead and sells new weapons. Just beyond her, you’ll find a cube containing the ‘SCARS’ GATE SEAL, which closes Bresha Ruins 005AF.

Continue forward to get Gysahl Greens from a sphere under a lamp and further for one holding 540 Gil. Head east for an LT:

LT - Why is the eclipse only here?

Afterwards, look behind the large rock slab at the junction for a hidden sphere that Mog can reveal. It contains a Pearl Necklace. Now go north to reach the [Paddrean Archaeopolis]. Chocolina is stationed there should you need to purchase anything; otherwise speak with the woman on the left to initiate a scene.

BOSS >> Aloeidai

The boss casts Deshell and Deprotect on your party, so remove those afflictions as soon as possible with Esuna. As usual switch to SEN roles when the boss readies his Swipe attack to mitigate damage. Once you stagger Aloeidai, shave down as much HP as you can before the boss erects a barrier that makes it resistant to attacks. Upon staggering it again, the barrier is gone and Aloeidai takes full damage.

Just as the party is about to get sucked into a vortex, an old friend arrives to save the day. During a cutscene, you receive the ALOEIDAI FRAGMENT + 3500CP. Follow Hope to the top of the stairs then talk to him twice when he stops for an extended LT:

LT - Hope wonders if I have any questions...

Speak with the Sentry to gain access to a restricted section of the ruins. Continue following Hope. Talk to him when he stops for another LT:

LT - Hope seems lost in memories...

You can hear all 4 answers if you pick [Triangle] last. Follow Hope up the ramp and talk to him in front of the Oracle Drive tent for a scene. After watching the projection of events, Hope hands over a HOLLOW ARTEFACT and tells you to find its corresponding gate. Before doing so, talk to Hope for another LT...

LT - Hope has been analyzing the Oracle Drive...

...then explore the Archaeopolis. Walk down the ramp and look in the s/e corner for a sphere containing a Warding Talisman. Don’t worry about accepting quests right now; instead have Mog reveal a hidden sphere in the n/e corner containing Gysahl Greens. Jump down to the lower part of the ruins and have Mog unveil a hidden sphere near the crates below the statue to receive a Serenity Sachet.

Climb stairs leading to the big fal’Cie statue and collect 3 Remedies and a Carbuncle Figurine from two spheres on top. Mog can reveal a hidden cube floating in front of the statue’s face but you’ll need to return later to retrieve it. For now, walk back into the [Pass of Paddra] and head south.

Along the way, you may bump into a woman named Brenda who offers a quest:

MISSION: Bring Brenda a Behemoth Fang.

If you managed to defeat a Feral Behemoth in the searchlight area, you will have acquired the fang she’s looking for. If so, accept the quest and give her the Fang to earn MISERY’S BEAD FRAGMENT + 300CP. Locate a shiny gate in the n/e niche. Use the Hollow Artefact to activate it and trigger an LT:

LT - Noel seems troubled...

After receiving another LIVE TRIGGER EVENT prize (I got a Blue Butterfly this time), the party returns to the Historia Crux with a new location unlocked: Oerba 200AF. Before going there, return to Bresha Ruins 005AF to activate the shiny gate in the tunnel.

BRESHA RUINS 005AF

After reemerging from the gate near the soldiers, head s/w into the lower tunnels either via chocobo or on foot. Activate the shiny gate on the dock using the Reunion Artefact you found earlier. Back in Historia Crux, a new location unlocks. Pick Sunleth Waterscape 300AF as your next destination.

SUNLETH WATERSCAPE 300AF

Serah dashes off as soon as the party arrives. Follow her to the [Assembly Area] where you find an old friend being attacked by a giant flan.

BOSS >> Royal Ripeness

Snow joins the party as a guest member during the fight (and throughout this era). The boss starts off by poisoning the entire party. Use Esuna or Remedy items if anyone’s HP gets too low. An army of smaller flans will continuously heal the boss during battle so try inflicting Deprotect and Deshell on the big guy to effectively counter this. After removing about 20% of the flan’s HP, a CAS occurs...

CAS: Square

Doing so grants Protect on the entire party. Keep fighting until another CAS occurs:

CAS: Up - Square - tap [Square] - tap [Circle] - Right

You get a Crystal Heart for scoring a ‘perfect’ during the CAS. Watch a scene followed by an LT:

LT - Snow’s here because of something Lightning said...

When you regain control, talk to Snow to receive a MAP OF SUNLETH WATERSCAPE. The shiny gate in the n/w niche needs an artefact so start your search by heading south. Get 625 Gil from the sphere up ahead then use the blue vine at the end to swing across to the other side of the Assembly Area. Pass through to the [Forest Crossroads] where there’s a 3-way split.

There’s another gate to the west. Ignore it and follow the s/w route to witness a scene showing a furry Woodwraith-type creature lumbering towards the group. Hop on its back to trigger a MOOGLE THROW tutorial. To claim treasures that are out of reach, hold L1 to grab onto Mog then aim him at the object you’re trying to reach. Release L1 to hurl Mog towards the object. If successful, Mog returns after a while with the treasure in hand.

While riding along the [Animal Trail], toss Mog to reach spheres containing a Silver Bangle, Librascope, 8 Mana Chips, and a Spark Ring. Additionally, look for an object floating on the left side. Toss Mog to claim another WILD ARTEFACT (02/10). Hop off the creature when you reach the end of the trail.

Visit Chocolina in the [Warpwood] then throw Mog at the sphere behind her to prompt a warning about creatures attacking when Mog is off fetching treasures. After the forced battle, have Mog fetch 7 Vitality Chips from the out-of-reach sphere. Next, have Mog unveil a vine to the left (western edge). Use it to swing across to the [Hidden Woodland Area].

Open a sphere to receive a Frost Ring and look for a transparent one further ahead containing a Unicorn Horn. Return to the [Warpwood] and walk across branches to the south. Use a blue vine to reach [Bow Isle] where you’ll find another shiny gate and a sphere with a Zephyr Ring. Cross the [Bumpy Bough] on the s/e edge to reach the [Isle of Arboreal Embrace].

Throw Mog to get an Amber Ring from the sphere floating near the southern tip then battle the flans gathered in the middle. After defeating them, a cutscene occurs during which you receive the COMBAT ARTEFACT. A chocobo conveniently appears. Make your way back to the shiny gate on [Bow Isle] either by riding or walking. Use the Combat Artefact to activate it and select a new destination (Coliseum - Year Unknown-) in the Historia Crux.

COLISEUM ???AF

Walk downstairs for a scene with the Arbiter of Time. After getting a WHITE HOLE GEM from the shadowy figure, go upstairs and use Mog to reveal a sphere near the gate. It contains a MAP OF THE COLISEUM. Go back to Historia Crux and select Sunleth Waterscape 300AF.

SUNLETH WATERSCAPE 300AF - continued

From the gate on [Bow Isle], head north, back to the 3-way split at [Forest Crossroads]. Once there, walk to the eastern edge and press R1 to have Mog clear anomalies on both the left and right sides. Open a sphere on the right to get 960 Gil then toss Mog towards the floating object on the far left to collect an EXTRAORDINARY EGG FRAGMENT + 300CP. Now take the left path over to a sphere with 9 Vitality Droplets.

Move forward along the branches to a vine that deposits the party further inside the [Overgrown Forest]. Defeat the cluster of flans at the end. During the scene that follows, you receive the THUNDERING ARTEFACT and an LT:

LT - Snow’s friends trapped...

Open a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube afterwards (I got a Blue Flower). Hop down onto the branches and use a blue vine to swing over to the chocobo. Either ride or walk all the way up to the gate at the [Base of the Crystal]. Say goodbye to Snow for a while and return to the Historia Crux.

Having used the Thundering Artefact, a new location opens: Archylte Steppe ???AF. Before traveling there, return to Bresha Ruins to wrap up some business. Skip past the optional section below if you’re eager to continue with the main storyline.

Optional - BRESHA RUINS 005AF

Having learned the Moogle Throw skill, you can now reach the sphere floating in the center of the [Excavation Site]. Toss Mog onto it to get the HOLDING CELL KEY. Use it to unlock the gate in the western corner. Collect 10 Vitality Chips from the sphere next to the door then ascend the ramp to arrive in another part of the underground waterway. Have Mog reveal a cube to the west that contains the COMM DEVICE Morris was looking for. Bring it back to him at the Holding Cell entrance to obtain the VITA LYRICA FRAGMENT + 200CP.

Back inside the waterway, continue past the crystal gate and check dead-ends on the left and right for spheres containing a Unicorn Horn and a Butterfly Bow for Serah. Now activate the crystal gate in the center using one of the Wild Artefacts in your inventory to unlock Bresha Ruins 300AF on the timeline. The location is filled with tough enemies and best left for future exploration (covered later). For now, select Oerba 200AF to continue with the main storyline.

OERBA 200AF

After the cutscene, have Mog reveal a GIANT EGG FRAGMENT behind the arrival gate. Doing so earns you 300CP. Jump across a gap in the bridge and press R1 to have Mog unveil the anomaly. Examine it to enter the Void with another series of puzzles you must solve.

Your goal is to connect crystals of the same shape and color before time runs out. To connect them, hold X while standing on a square with a crystal and run to the square with a matching one to draw a line between them. The crystals shift color and shape as you move so try to work quickly. When all of the crystals are connected properly, you’ll see an overhead view of the constellation they form. Exit through the portal to return to Oerba.

For solving the Crystal Bonds puzzle, you earn TIME’S STARDUST FRAGMENT + 300CP. Walk across the bridge and look behind tree roots on the left for a sphere containing a Power Wristband. Backtrack slightly and get 2 Gysahl Greens from a sphere near the gap in the wall. Hop down and take the path on the right into [Village Proper].

Enter the building to the south. In back of the first floor you’ll find a sphere with the MAP OF OERBA. On the 2nd floor landing, open a cube to receive the ‘VISIONS’ GATE SEAL, which closes Yaschas Massif 010AF. Back outside, pay a visit to Chocolina who has new items in her inventory including several monster adornments. After shopping, have Mog reveal the time rift north of her. Enter the Void and solve another Crystal Bonds puzzle (2 stages this time).

Completing the puzzle opens new portions of Oerba and earns you TIME’S SHELL FRAGMENT + 300CP. Go around the back of the building next to Chocolina to find a sphere with a Magician’s Mark. Ascend the ramp next to the building.

On top, look for a sphere tucked under the big tree to the west to get 550 Gil. Have Mog reveal another anomaly on the n/w stairs and complete 3 stages of the Crystal Bonds puzzle. Doing so earns you TIME’S CORAL FRAGMENT + 300CP with new areas to explore.

Continue downstairs and open a sphere containing 3 Cie’th Tears on the right. Up ahead, you’ll find a new time gate. Ascend the steps across from it to find a hidden sphere. Have Mog reveal it to collect a Hypnocrown. Go down to the beach and open a sphere to receive a Librascope.

Walk across [The Ashensand] to the schoolhouse on the n/w end. Talk to your comrade for a scene then enter the building. Get 600 Gil from a sphere and ascend to the rooftop terrace. Examine the artefact to trigger a scene.

BOSS >> Caius

Caius fortifies himself with several buffs that cannot be dispelled such as Reraise and Regen. Counter this by casting Poison and Deprotect/Deshell on him then pummel Caius with magic spells.

Watch the scene that follows then grab the ARTEFACT OF ORIGINS. After an LT...

LT - Paradox solved but...

...jump down into the schoolhouse through the broken skylight. Collect 10 Power Bolts from a sphere then exit to the beach where a chocobo is waiting. Hop on and ride back towards Chocolina. Ascend the ramp next to her and glide the chocobo over the broken wall to the rooftop above. Dismount and have Mog reveal the hidden object floating there.

After obtaining the GRAVITON CORE GAMMA FRAGMENT + 600CP, hop down and head over to the big tree on the northwest end. Look for an object floating on the ledge of the building west of the schoolhouse. Throw Mog at it to retrieve WILD ARTEFACT (03/10). Head over to the shiny gate now and use the Artefact of Origins to unlock it. During a cutscene, an LT...

LT - Noel is upset about Yeul...

...and you automatically receive another LIVE TRIGGER REWARD (I got a Whimsical Headdress). Back in Historia Crux, a primer explains how parallel worlds work - basically, it’s an alternate reality that replaces the date with an X. In this case, Yaschas Massif 01XAF is an alternate version of 010AF. Before traveling to the new location, wrap up some business elsewhere on the timeline by selecting Archylte Steppe ???AF.

ARCHYLTE STEPPE ???AF

From the arrival gate in [Plains of Eternity], enter the [Nomad Camp] to the north. A primer explains that you must prove yourself to the local hunters to gain their trust. Walk around to the stairs. On top, collect a Grimoire Hat from a sphere facing the chocobo corral and look for another sphere behind the sheep herder containing 600 Gil. Chocolina is selling her wares on the right. Pay her a visit then enter the room on top and talk to Tipur to receive a MAP OF THE STEPPE. Speak with him again to get your first quest:

MISSION: Defeat the goblins.

The goblins’ location will be marked on your map. Hop down off the cliff and start moving towards them. Along the way, pick up a few treasures near camp including 3 Potions, 2 Remedies, and 8 Mana Droplets. Fight the Goblins to receive the GOBLIN FRAGMENT + 300CP. Examine the red cactuar statue nearby to warp back to camp. Doing so earns you a CRIMSON CRYSTAL FRAGMENT + 300CP. Return to Tipur who asks that you help some of the townspeople. Talk to the sheep lady below (Myta) to get your next quest:

MISSION: Collect 3 types of wool.

Exit camp and start chasing down 3 large sheep. Press X when you get close to them to receive ROUGH WOOL, THICK WOOL and FLUFFY WOOL. Bring them to Myta to earn the WOOLLY STONE FRAGMENT + 300CP. She mentions a device that changes the weather. Go up to Tipur’s room and speak with the Huntress in the corner to learn how to operate the weather machine.

Using two levers on the device, you can create 4 possible weather conditions: Windy (the current condition), Sunny, Rainy, and Stormy. Each weather condition brings out different types of monsters. Play with the levers until you see the scene change to sunny weather.

Talk to Tipur for an LT regarding the winged creature that appears on a cliff overlooking the plains:

LT - A flan-devouring monster is behind the storm...

A scene suggests the beast is somehow connected to events in Sunleth Waterscape. Accept the new quest:

MISSION: Defeat the Faeryl.

Hop down onto the grass and head s/e into the [Sanctorium]. Approach the gigantic Long Gui monster blocking access to the Faeryl to prompt a suggestion that you need to find a way to move the big foe. Before heading back to camp to find out how, take advantage of the sunny weather to explore a little.

Heading directly south past the Long Gui, cross the bridge and look for a hidden cactuar behind the large cactus plant. Press R1 to have Mog reveal another red cactuar warp stone. Before using it, continue south into [Grave Ridge]. Stop to examine the dark time gate to learn that no ordinary item will lift the shadow that surrounds it.

South of the gate, have Mog reveal a hidden sphere containing 9 Vitality Slivers. Go west from here to the top of the ridge where you’ll notice a tall rock pillar with a sphere. Although Mog can fetch the treasure for you, it’s best to wait until you acquire a chocobo to fill in that portion of the map. For now, explore the southernmost tip to get 8 Mana Bolts from a sphere and reveal a hidden one with a Phoenix Down. Jump down into the s/w trench and look for another hidden sphere containing a Single Horn. Above this one, look for a sphere carrying 6 Vitality Droplets. Return to the red cactuar stone near the big cactus now. Examine it to warp back to camp. Doing so earns you an AZURE CRYSTAL FRAGMENT + 300CP.

Talk to the man near the eastern entrance to learn that Long Guis are afraid of thunder. Go up to the weather device and change conditions to stormy. When the Long Gui disappears, you’ll see the Faeryl creature waiting for you on top of the ridge. Head to the [!] marker on your map.

BOSS >> Faeryl

The boss is immune to most status ailments so building up its Stagger Chain will be slightly more difficult. It mostly uses fire and wind magic so cast Shell if you have a SYN in the party. As soon as Faeryl breaks out of stagger, it unleashes a big attack that wounds. Reduce damage by switching to a SEN paradigm.

Upon defeating the Faeryl, watch a scene wherein you receive the BLACK HOLE GEM + 3500CP. Open the LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube that appears (I got a Dragon Hide Backpack) and toss Mog onto the cliff where Faeryl was parked to fetch 8 Power Slivers from a sphere. With gem in hand, you can now beat the giant flan in Sunleth Waterscape but I suggest exploring the Steppe a bit more before departing.

Change the weather back to windy in camp then return to the plains. Follow the western ridge into a trench where you’ll find a sphere with 2 Fractured Horns. Head south towards a green cactuar statue surrounded by cactus plants. In order to lift the shadow on the gate, you need to locate 3 green cactuar statues and fight the Gigantuars that appear once each statue is examined. Upon defeating the first one, you’ll also receive its crystal.

Further south look for a small tornado in [Grave Ridge]. Press R1 to have Mog reveal a gold cactuar statue. Examine it to warp to [Clearwater Marshes] on the western side of the steppe. Doing so earns you the FOREST CRYSTAL FRAGMENT + 300CP.

Walk to the n/e edge and look for a sphere floating on the cliffs above. Toss Mog to retrieve a Guardian’s Edge weapon for Noel. Moving west from here, you’ll find a hidden sphere containing a Unicorn Horn. Continue to the western edge of the marsh and look down into the gorge for a small ledge with a floating object. Throw Mog onto the ledge to retrieve a WILD ARTEFACT (04/10).

Moving slightly s/e, look for a hidden sphere in the water containing 3 Gysahl Greens. Further south, locate a sphere with 700 Gil. Now look for a transparent cactuar in the upper section of the pond. Have Mog reveal a red cactuar statue and use it to warp back to camp, earning you the AMBER CRYSTAL FRAGMENT + 300CP.

Change weather conditions to rainy then use the gold cactuar stone to return to the western Marshes. Once there, look for a hidden cactuar s/e of the red one. Have Mog reveal the second green cactuar statue. Examine it to summon another Gigantuar that you must defeat. Return to camp afterwards and change the weather to sunny.

Head back to [Clearwater Marshes] via the gold cactuar stone. Look behind the large rock to the east for a hidden cactuar. Have Mog reveal the third green cactuar statue, examine it and fight the Gigantuar that appears. Return to camp afterwards and change the weather to stormy.

Warp to the western marshes and locate the final hidden cactuar stone on the s/w end. After Mog reveals it, use it to warp back to camp. Doing so earns you the VIOLET CRYSTAL FRAGMENT + 300CP. More importantly, you can now ride chocobos by talking to the huntress near the corral.

Change the weather to whatever you like then hop on a chocobo and ride south towards the crystal gate. Before using it, guide the chocobo onto the tall rock pillar to complete the map and claim 8 Mana Chips from the floating sphere on top. Now that the darkness has been lifted, use a Wild Artefact on the gate to unlock Vile Peaks 200AF. Before going there, wrap things up in Sunleth Waterscape 300AF.

SUNLETH WATERSCAPE 300AF - 2nd visit

Upon returning, the team notices that Snow is missing. Make your way down to the giant flan to find Snow trying to battle the fierce monster alone.

BOSS >> Mutantomato

The boss casts Bravery, Faith and Haste on itself at the start and is immune to Dispel. Bring in a SAB to stick Deprotect and Deshell on the big flan then whack it around for a good stagger. Unleash triple COM fury when the boss is staggered and switch to triple SEN or triple MED when necessary.

Upon defeating the boss, you receive the MUTANTOMATO FRAGMENT + 3500CP. Watch a scene and when you regain control, head south. Throw Mog onto the dry creek bed to retrieve a MYSTERIOUS ARTEFACT. Head for the middle gate marked on your map. Use the artefact on the gate and it transforms into the ILLUSIONARY ARTEFACT. Watch the scene that follows.

Back in Historia Crux, a trio of grainy nodes has appeared: Along with the Coliseum, a locked location and The Void Beyond have been added to the timeline. Select The Void Beyond.

THE VOID BEYOND ???AF

The party ends up in a world between time gates. After the cutscene, open a sphere to get a MAP OF THE VOID BEYOND. On the north end, have Mog reveal a sphere then toss him to retrieve 800 Gil. On the south end, throw Mog towards a sphere containing 6 Potent Chips. Examining the rubble in the center tells you there’s nothing else to do here at the moment, so enter the space-time distortion to return to Historia Crux.

Once there, a primer tells us what we already know: if you run out of areas to explore, unlock new gates. If you’ve been following this guide, you will have opened many new gates and have several choices of where to go. To continue with the main storyline, select Yaschas Massif 01XAF.

YASCHAS MASSIF 01XAF

In this alternate timeline the eclipse is gone. From the arrival gate, hop up the grassy ledges and look for a treasure cube on the right holding the ‘ENCOUNTERS’ GATE SEAL (closes Oerba 200AF). Talk to your partner midway up for an LT:

LT - Yeul said if you change the future...

Walk up to the Archaeopolis for a scene and another LT:

LT - I met another Yeul...

Chocolina is selling her wares below if you need supplies; otherwise walk upstairs and look for a floating cube behind the crates in the s/w corner. Throw Mog at it to get an OLD BATTERY. Go up the ramp and talk to Hope. After a cutscene, speak with Hope again for an LT:

LT - How to interpret the Oracle images...

Approach the guard on the left for a scene, after which the path next to her opens. Before entering, open a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube in back of Hope’s tent (I got an Academic’s Hat). Explore the upper ruins now.

At the top of the ramps, have Mog reveal a hidden sphere behind the laborer to get 600 Gil. Stand on the [!] mark next to it and have Mog reveal a MYSTERIOUS ARTEFACT. The gate it corresponds to is at the very bottom of the Pass. Pick up a couple of quests before leaving the Archaeopolis.

At the bottom of the ramps, a man named Duncan asks that you defeat a Cie’th roaming in the s/w pass. Delay this mission for now. Instead, look for a man named Marlow standing in the n/e corner of the wide platform. Accept his quest:

MISSION: Bring Marlow an unbroken tablet.

The tablet he’s looking for was obtained earlier in Yaschas Massif 010AF. If you have it in your inventory, give it to Marlow in exchange for the ORB OF CLOTHO FRAGMENT + 300CP. Next, talk to Lester who is walking around on the bottom. He asks that you find 3 fallen stars:

MISSION: Find 3 fallen stars and bring them to Lester.

Accept his quest. Now hop on a chocobo and ride into the [Pass of Paddra]. At the junction, go north and have your chocobo jump onto the ledge overlooking the ‘searchlight’ area, near the northern tip. On top, you’ll find a sphere containing a Unicorn Horn and a woman (Bridget) who offers a quest:

MISSION: Bring Bridget the Fruit of Fenrir.

The item Bridget wants can be found on the same ledge in Yaschas Massif 010AF. Hop down and use one of the Wild Artefacts in your inventory to open a crystal gate in the center of the pass. Back in Historia Crux, a new node appears on the timeline (Augusta Tower 300AF). Before going there, travel to Yaschas Massif 010AF to take care of some business.

Optional - YASCHAS MASSIF 010AF

Hop on a chocobo and ride towards the searchlight area. Jump onto the ledge above Chocolina, near the northern tip. Open the cube on top to get FRUIT OF FENRIR. Now ride back towards the Archaeopolis. If you haven’t done so already, fight a Behemoth in the [Pass of Paddra] and bring its Fang to Brenda to get the MISERY’S BEAD FRAGMENT + 300CP.

Once you’re back in the Archaeopolis, toss Mog onto the fal’Cie statue’s head to retrieve a cube containing the PATHOS JEWEL FRAGMENT + 300CP. Talk to Cole at the base of the Oracle Drive ramp. Accept his quest:

MISSION: Find an old battery and bring it to Cole.

You should already have the item in your inventory (obtained in Yaschas Massif 01XAF). If so, give it to Cole to obtain AMUR’S SPHERE FRAGMENT + 300CP. Next, talk to Shannon who is walking around on the lower level. Accept her quest:

MISSION: Retrieve Shannon’s lost watch.

The watch she’s looking for exists in another time period, so your work here is done for now. Return to Historia Crux and travel back to Yaschas Massif 01XAF.

YASCHAS MASSIF 01XAF - continued

Back in the [Pass of Paddra], look inside the hole in the ground near the crystal gate for a cube containing an EMERALD CRYSTAL (star #1). The 2nd star is inside a hidden cube at the 3-way split, s/e of here. Have Mog reveal it to get an ONYX CRYSTAL. Look under the metal stairs to the south to find the 3rd star, an IVORY CRYSTAL. While here, throw Mog onto the building across from the stairs to get 10 Power Chips from a floating sphere.

Ignore the shiny gate for now. Instead, hop on a chocobo and deliver the Fruit of Fenrir to Bridget on the northern ledge to receive the SWORD OF LACHESIS FRAGMENT + 300CP. Ride back to the Archaeopolis and give the 3 fallen stars to Lester to receive the MIRROR OF ATROPOS + 300CP. At this point you can accept the quest from Duncan, who is standing near the ramp leading to Hope’s tent:

MISSION: Defeat the Cie’th in Pass of Paddra.

The powerful Cie’th you need to defeat is in the clearing across from the metal bridge. Either walk or ride down there and fight it to earn the GORGYRA FRAGMENT + 500CP. Now examine the shiny gate below the metal stairs where the Mysterious Artefact transforms into the RESTORATION ARTEFACT. After a cutscene, the party arrives in Historia Crux with another 3-node option. Select The Void Beyond.

THE VOID BEYOND ???AF

The Void has changed a little since your previous visit. At the s/w end, toss Mog towards a cube to retrieve the ‘PREDICITON’ GATE SEAL (closes the Coliseum). At the n/w end, toss Mog to get ‘THE CALM’ GATE SEAL (closes Archylte Steppe ???AF). Examine the white crystal in the center for a brief scene then use the space-time distortion to return to Historia Crux. Doing so unlocks two new locations on the timeline: Serendipity (year unknown) and Academia 400AF. Choose Serendipity as your next destination.

SERENDIPITY ???AF

After a cutscene, open the sphere near the gate to receive a Casino Ticket. Talk to the woman at the entrance to get a primer on how the casino works: In brief, you need to exchange gil for casino coins in order to use slot machines or race chocobos. When the primer ends, you receive a MAP OF SERENDIPITY and another Casino Ticket, and Mog goes off to play on his own.

Enter [Temptation Plaza] and open the sphere on the right to get a Lightning Mask. A cube on the left contains ‘THE FALL’ GATE SEAL, which closes Yaschas Massif 01XAF. Enter the building in the lower left corner and talk to the Mystic inside to exchange your fragments for FRAGMENT SKILLS. During your first visit, two are unlocked: Mog’s Manifestation (improved throw) and Haggler (higher sell price). There are 14 Fragment Skills to learn once the criteria has been met:

Return to the plaza and enter the upper left building. Talk to the Racing Teller at the entrance to learn how to register and race chocobos. Inside, examine the tiny yellow chick sitting on the left counter to receive a CHOCOCHICK DOWN FRAGMENT + 500CP.

Talk to the Casino Vendor on the far right to exchange tickets for coins, gil for coins, etc. The vendor sells 3 special fragments (Chaos Crystal, Just 1 gil, and Setzer’s Dice) as well as a Wild Artefact, but they are costly -10,000 casino coins (or 100,000 gil) for example. Other prizes include chocobo-boosting materials, rare accessories and adornments.

Return to the plaza and enter the building on the upper right to learn about the slot machines, which are shaped like motorcycles. The lady standing near the last vehicle will tell you how well the machines are doing based on their ‘moods’. Card games are only available through downloadable content apparently...

When ready, return to Historia Crux and select a new destination. IF you’re eager to move on with the main storyline, pick Academia 400AF. If you’re in no hurry, visit a few optional places first. Start with Vile Peaks 200AF.

Optional - VILE PEAKS 200AF

After a scene, Mog points out a shadowy figure on the ground. Reveal the soldier with R1 and accept Torreno’s quest to find his missing squad mates.

MISSION: Find all six survivors of the Blitz Squadron.

Accepting his quest yields a MAP OF THE VILE PEAKS as well as TORRENO’S LAST LIGHT FRAGMENT + 500CP. Although some of the squad members are in a different time period, you can start the quest now by heading west. (Btw: The Saturn-shaped orb near the scorched gate cannot be opened yet.)

After passing through the metal tube, talk to the soldier standing in the clearing. When Falcon runs off, chase him back towards Torreno. Talk to him on the bridge to receive FALCON’S LAST LIGHT FRAGMENT + 500CP. Go west again. At the end of the next metal tube, open a sphere containing a Phoenix Down.

A time distortion blurs the path up ahead. Pass through and talk to Corporal Thunder, who wants you to defeat the monster that is causing the distortion:

MISSION: Defeat the unidentified monster.

Accept his quest to get THUNDER’S LAST LIGHT + 500CP. Thunder tells you to seek out Falcon to help figure out a way to defeat the monster. Have Mog reveal a hidden sphere in the n/w corner to get 8 Vitality Bolts. Backtrack to the gate where Falcon is waiting. Talk to him for an LT:

Answer, “Thunder” [Square] to receive FALCON’S COMPASS FRAGMENT + 500CP. That is all you can do here at the moment, so return to Historia Crux. Select a new destination on the timeline. Now would be a good time to tackle Bresha Ruins 300AF.

Optional - BRESHA RUINS 300AF

The party arrives during a snowstorm at the base of the stairs in [Echoes of the Past]. Talk to the man on the stairs (Jonah) to get your first quest in this time period.

MISSION: Find Jonah’s recording device.

The colorful breed of chocobo next to Jonah rapidly consumes Gysahl Greens as you ride, so unless you have a stockpile, you’ll be exploring on foot. There are many powerful monsters in this time period (Tonberry for example) but all offer great CP and Gil. If you become frustrated trying to defeat them, return later when your characters are stronger.

When ready, head toward the [Lamentable Rest] cemetery in the n/e corner. En route, look for a soldier called the Commander who is wearing a winged helmet. Note his location for a quest later on. As you approach the cemetery, you’ll notice the alcove on the left is now open. Walk up the slope to find a crystal gate. Use a Wild Artefact on it to unlock Yaschas Massif 110AF on the timeline but return to Bresha 300AF afterwards.

Open a sphere near the crystal gate to get a Unicorn Horn then approach the shadowy figure standing near the chocobo at the cemetery entrance. Use R1 to have Mog reveal the fellow then talk to him. Accept Lex’s quest:

MISSION: Talk to Lex’s buddy.

Examine the pale blue flower in the n/e corner of the cemetery to receive a SILVER PETAL. There’s a tattered stuffed animal at the base of the epitaph but nothing else of interest here so head west into the upper tunnels.

Chocolina is stationed inside if you need supplies; otherwise, enter the device room on the n/e end. Talk to the snotty Government Agent posted there. You’ll return later to mess with his device. For now, enter the room in the n/w corner. Have Mog reveal a cube containing the RECORDING DEVICE Jonah was looking for. There’s a red chocobo inside if you want to ride it. Either way, make your way down to the lower tunnels and look for a jokester named Brant standing on one of the docks.

Play Brant’s game by selecting the best puns during a series of LTs. Basically talk to him three times and pick X, X O to receive MY BUDDY’S MESSAGE. Bring the message back to Lex in the graveyard to get the IRIDIUM RING FRAGMENT + 400CP. Inspect the spot where Lex was standing to obtain another WILD ARTEFACT (05/10).

Now return to the lower tunnels where you met the jokester and talk to the man on the east end of the dock. Accept Thurston’s quest:

MISSION: Talk to the Commander.

You’ll find the Commander roaming near the stairs on the lower east side. Talk to him to get the COMMANDER’S REPORT. While here, give Jonah the Recording Device you found earlier to receive a PLATINUM RING FRAGMENT + 400CP. Go back to Thurston in the western tunnels to exchange the report for a MYTHRIL RING FRAGMENT + 400CP. You’re done here for now so press [Start] to return to Historia Crux. Select Bresha Ruins 005AF.

Optional - BRESHA RUINS 005AF

Bring the Silver Petal back to Jed in the cemetery to earn the ANIMA MISERIA FRAGMENT + 200CP. Return to Historia Crux and select Yaschas Massif 110AF.

Optional - YASCHAS MASSIF 110AF

The party arrives in the Archaeopolis where red orbs contain the souls of the dead and red chocobos prevail. Talk to the red orb near the gate and accept your first quest in this era:

MISSION: Find sister Millie.

Go up to the Oracle Drive tent and have Mog reveal a cube containing a SERVICE MANUAL. Leave the Archaeopolis, stopping by Chocolina’s shop on the way out. Areas previously blocked in other eras are now open for exploration. First, hop down into s/e dead end to find a shadowy figure. Have Mog reveal the man, who suffers from amnesia. Note his location for a future quest.

Walk down the eastern side of the pass and you’ll eventually run into another shadowy figure. Have Mog reveal the woman then speak with her. Millie gives you a piece of WEDDING JEWELRY to give to her sister. Before bringing it back to the red orb, fill in the rest of the map and take the western path back up through the pass.

In the ‘searchlight’ area, have Mog reveal a cube containing a TERRORISTS’ MARK near the long fissure that runs up the middle. On the north end, throw Mog into the gorge that overlooks the ruins to retrieve a cube containing an OUTDOOR WATCH. Return to the Archaeopolis now to give Millie’s jewelry to the red orb. Doing so earns you GERTHILDE’S BLOSSOM FRAGMENT + 500CP. Now talk to red orb Abraham near the lower crates. Accept his quest:

MISSION: Find the technician.

Return to the pass and hop on the red chocobo at the junction. While riding, jump onto the ledge at the n/w end and talk to the Technician stationed there. During his LT...

LT - Who told you about the searchlights?

...answer, “The manual” [Triangle] - referring to the service manual you found earlier. Bring the TECHNICIAN’S NOTE back to red orb Abraham to receive WALTRAUTE’S FLOWER FRAGMENT + 500CP. Next, climb the ramps above the Oracle Drive. On top, speak with red orb Annaud, who asks for proof of terrorist actions.

MISSION: Bring Abraham proof of terrorist actions.

Accept his quest and hand over the Terrorists’ Mark you found earlier to acquire ORTLINDE’S BLOOM FRAGMENT + 500CP. Completing the 3 quests above creates a space-time distortion in the s/w pass. Hike down there to investigate.

Examine the distortion for a cutscene, during which the party is transported to another temporal rift puzzle in the Void. For the Hands of Time puzzles, you must erase all numbers on the clock-face using math skills. Since you can start on any number, there are many ways to solve the clock puzzles but it really comes down to basic addition. While standing on a number press X to make it disappear. The clock hands will move the same number of spaces in opposite directions. If both hands land on an empty space, press [Square] to reset the puzzle. After completing 4 stages, you’ll be back in Yaschas Massif 110AF and earn the BOOK OF AVALON FRAGMENT + 500CP.

That’s all you can do here right now so return to Historia Crux and pick Yaschas Massif 010AF.

Optional - YASCHAS MASSIF 010AF

Go to the Archaeopolis and give Shannon the watch you found in Yashcas Massif 110AF to earn INNOCENCE’S SACRED SPHERE + 300CP.

Back in Historia Crux, select Academia 400AF to carry the storyline forward.

EPISODE 4

ACADEMIA 400AF

The party arrives in a big city at night, with hoards of Cie’th taking over the streets. Starting on the [Central Bridge], fight a group of Ghouls. The monsters will continually respawn and track down your every move. They are all easy to defeat but their sheer volume makes this time period exceedingly annoying. Don’t worry about collecting all of the treasures right now, just head to markers as they appear on your map.

Go west and examine the console next to the red escalator to switch it to the ‘Up’ (blue) position. Ascend and walk to the end, where you’ll find a sphere containing 3 Casino Tickets. Use the console on top to reset the escalator to red and ride down. Go east now and reset the escalator on that end to blue. Ride up and head north into the [Alley] where you will see a scene.

When you regain control, examine the terminal to get a primer on Academia’s Defense System - namely you must defeat bots that guard glowing walls in order to pass through. After getting a MAP OF ACADEMIA, head east then north to find Miss Horizon. Accept her quest:

MISSION: Bring Miss Horizon all completed maps.

Give her maps in which you’ve explored 100% of the territory to earn fragments. If you followed this walkthrough, you should be able to give her 3 right now and earn TRAVEL GUIDE: YASCHAS MASSIF, TRAVEL GUIDE: SUNLETH WATERSCAPE and TRAVEL GUIDE: ARCHYLTE STEPPE fragments. Note that certain locations (such as New Bodhum) have undergone secret changes since you last visited so even though 100% explored, you’ll have to wait to earn fragments.

Open a cube holding the ‘FAREWELLS’ GATE SEAL (closes Sunleth Waterscape 300AF) in the corridor then visit Chocolina, who sells new weapons and Lv.2 monster materials. Pass through the green wall next to Chocolina, killing any Ghouls that get in your way.

Head east and clear a group of Koboldroid Yins blocking the path. Once the barricade is gone, go upstairs and defeat the Fencer in front of a yellow barricade. Claim a MARK OF L’CIE from the nearby sphere then go north to trigger a scene. After battling a few Taxims and Ghouls, use the path next to the escalator to go down into [Grand Avenue Square].

Loop west, traveling along the wide avenue until a scene takes over. When it ends, continue heading west. Ride the blue escalator at the end and witness an LT showing the bridge collapsing. Head south and hop onto the small ledge for a sphere containing Kaiser Knuckles. Go west afterwards, jumping over debris to the other side of the bridge.

Veer north and look for a switch to make the escalator go up (blue). On top, head west. At the t-junction, you’ll find a huge monster (Geiseric) blocking the northern route. Ignore the powerful creature and instead head south through a myriad of regular enemies.

Continue south past the red escalator. Veer west when you can and use the switch at the end to change the escalator you just passed to blue. Backtrack east to the blue escalator and ride down. Head south to the crystal gate. Activate it by using a Wild Artefact but return to Academia 400AF after unlocking Yaschas Massif 100AF on the timeline.

From the crystal gate, move forward then head east into a dead end with a sphere containing 2000 Gil. Now go north and look for a switch on the right that changes the red escalator to blue. Eventually, you’ll reach an opening with two escalators: one red and one blue. Continue further to a switch. To the right of it, have Mog reveal a hidden sphere. After claiming a vial of Phoenix Blood, ride the blue escalator up. At the landing, open a sphere containing Phoenix Down then ride the adjoining escalator up to the top.

Approach the [!] marker on the left for a cutscene. After two forced battles with flying Cie’th, a larger monster appears.

BOSS >> Zenobia

At the start of battle, Zenobia deploys several Vaballathus tentacles that shield it from harm. Destroy them with elemental magic before they stick you with Fog and Deprotect. Once the tentacles are gone, use heavy magic on Zenobia and cast Deprotect, Deshell and Poison if you have a SAB in your party. With about 75% of health lost, the boss deploys another set of tentacles (clearing any debuffs it has incurred). This time, the tentacles attack as well as heal Zenobia. Destroy them with a set of three RAVs then keep fighting Zenobia until a CAS occurs:

CAS: Up > Left > Circle > Right > Circle > Right > tap X

For perfecting the CAS, you earn a Crystal Petal. A cutscene follows, during which you receive the ZENOBIA FRAGMENT, 6000 CP and the TOWER ARTEFACT. Before heading north to the shiny gate, go south towards Chocolina (sell some Tears of Remorse to get quick cash if you like). Look for a red escalator to the left of Chocolina and hop down it, moving against the current. Have Mog reveal an object below to get the GRAVITON CORE DELTA FRAGMENT + 500CP. Ride the escalator up and head north towards the gate now.

Open a sphere at the top of the stairs to receive 1050 Gil then use the Tower Artefact to activate the gate. After a cutscene, you’ll arrive in Historia Crux with a new location unlocked: Augusta Tower 200. Travel there when ready.

AUGUSTA TOWER 200AF

The team is deposited in a room on the [50th Floor]. Examine the four terminals inside to access the Academy Datanet. After a scene, you are free to exit. As you pass the people outside, they emit a strange static noise - some, though, vocalize numbers.

Open a sphere on the right to get 2 Remedies. The man next to it says, “6”. Toss Mog across the gap to get a Librascope while here then head south. You’ll pass a person who says, “1”. Open a sphere at the southern end to get 1500 Gil. The man standing close to it says, “9”. Toss Mog across the gap to fetch a Twist Headband then backtrack to the second room. A man inside says, “2”.

There are more terminals inside this room. Examine all of them and one will ask for a password:

LT - Enter the password.

If you heard all of the people mention numbers, you’ll know the password is 9-2-6-1 [press X]. After a cutscene you receive the MAP OF AUGUSTA TOWER (use R1/L1 to toggle views of each floor when the map is open). Exit to the outer ring for a brief scene then head back to the gate room. Pass through to reach the middle ring.

Go north and collect a WILD ARTEFACT (06/10) from the end. Toss Mog across the gap to retrieve a Train Conductor Beret. Head south for a brief scene then examine the device at the end. A primer explains that you’ll need Access Key 50 to continue further. If you explored Augusta Tower 300AF, you should already have it. If not, go fetch it now.

AUGUSTA TOWER 300AF

Upon arriving, the party learns that someone has hacked into the tower’s system and your job is to restore all rooms to their original positions. Starting on the [12th Floor], examine the device in front of you to get a primer on how to rotate rooms so that doors and paths connect properly. Exit the room and an electronic voice says, “1”.

On the right side of the circular path, toss Mog to get 800 Gil from a sphere. On the left side, examine the device near the second room to turn it once. Pass through the room and you’ll hear a voice say, “2”. Head north to a sphere containing 9 Mana Slivers then go south. Use the third device to rotate the adjacent room twice. Pass through the room and a voice says, “3”. Move forward to see an elevator descend to the center. Go there and examine the console to ride up to the [14th Floor].

Starting in the center circle, toss Mog to get 2 Potions from the north end then move forward to see a small platform connect to the outer ring. Cross over to the middle ring where Chocolina is stationed. After shopping, use the device near her to rotate the room two times. Enter and collect 8 Vitality Bolts from the sphere inside. As you exit the room, a voice says, “7”.

Enter the next room. Use the device inside to rotate the room twice. Exit to inner circle and have Mog reveal a sphere with 6 Vitality Slivers. Pass through the room and a voice says, “1”. Stand on the platform at the end and use the device to ascend to the [15th Floor].

Before leaving the platform, throw Mog towards the outer ring to get a Phoenix Down then pass through the next room. Before using the rotation device, walk around the ring and toss Mog to retrieve a Librascope from the floating sphere on the northern edge. Backtrack to the device and rotate the adjacent room 3 times so that you can walk around to the next room. A voice says, “7”.

Use a device near the next room to rotate it twice so you can enter. Inside, a voice says, “2”. Examine the desk console to access the Academy Datanet and LT query:

LT - Enter password...

If you were paying attention to the electronic voices, you’ll know the correct password to enter: 1-2-3-7-1-7-2. Press [Square] to verify the password, which earns you the ENTROPY BOARD FRAGMENT + 500CP. After a cutscene, the party receives ACCESS KEY 50. Your work here is done for the moment. Press [Start] to return to Historia Crux and select Augusta Tower 200AF.

AUGUSTA TOWER 200AF - continued

Use the key to raise stairs allowing you to cross over to the central elevator. Go there to witness a scene with a familiar girl. Talk to her.

When you regain control, enter the room to the s/e. Chocolina is inside. Also in this room, look for a floating cube in the corner of the ceiling. Throw Mog at it to acquire PARADOX AGENT TYPE A. Exit to the middle ring and use the device there to raise more stairs. Cross over for a scene and LT:

LT - Caius and Yeul are headed to the top...

Before going to the top floor, pass through Chocolina’s room to get to the outer circle. Walk all the way around to the n/w side and use the switch to rotate the room so that both walkways connect. Examine the console inside to get a quest:

MISSION: Locate Paradox Agent Type A.

Give it Paradox Agent Type A to receive the IDEA CIRCUIT FRAGMENT + 400CP. There are two more terminals inside. Examine the second one and accept its quest:

MISSION: Locate Paradox Agent Type B.

Return to Alyssa and ride the elevator up with her. Fight three battles as you as ascend with scenes in between.

Now on the [51st Floor], several switches appear around the central elevator. Before setting any switches, cross the s/e stairs and open the sphere at the end to get a Bloodguard. On the opposite side of the middle ring, throw Mog across the gap to get a Platinum Casino Ticket from a sphere. Look for a floating cube next to the room. Toss Mog at it to acquire the ‘SILENCE’ GATE SEAL (closes Augusta Tower 300AF). Now walk back across the stairs and use the switch device there to rotate the s/e room once.

Head west and examine the switch across from ‘Room 3’. Rotate the room once to connect it to the outer ring. Pass through the s/e room and two others to get to the western edge of the tower. Throw Mog towards the back wall to retrieve a sphere with a Phoenix Down. On the south end of the outer ring, throw Mog towards the back wall to collect a Sniper’s Eye. Now pass through all rooms to get back to the center circle.

Once there, use the switch across from ‘Room 4’ to rotate it three times so that its doors connect to the middle paths. Enter the s/e room again and pass through the others to reach the mystery room on the north end. Examine the terminal inside to receive ACCESS KEY 52 as well as a ‘Classified’ piece of information regarding man vs. machine. Use the switch in the corner to rotate the room three times so that you can access a section of the middle ring. If you tossed Mog earlier, you’ll already have the contents of the treasure sphere there but can fill in more of the map.

Reset the room to its previous state and backtrack to the central elevator. Use Access Key 52 at the terminal to ascend to the [52nd Floor] where an LT occurs:

LT - Who is pulling the strings?

There are four rooms on the 52nd Floor and your goal is to find another access key. Before using any switches, collect a few treasures. From the center circle, walk to the east end of the middle ring. Open a sphere to get 8 Vitality Orbs then proceed to the n/w end. Pass through the room to reach a sphere containing 1450 Gil. Backtrack to the center circle afterwards.

Make your way down to the room on the s/w end and pass through to the outer ring. On the south side, throw Mog towards the back wall to retrieve a Platinum Casino Ticket from the floating sphere. Re-enter the room and use the switch inside to rotate it so that the middle paths connect. Go out and grab a Magistral Crest from a sphere on the south end then exit north. Follow the s-shaped path to the next room. Use the switch inside to rotate the room so it’s connected to a tiny slice of the middle ring. Exit and collect 8 Mana Engines from a sphere.

Use the switch on the middle ring to rotate the n/w room so that its doors connect to the outer ring as well as the s-shaped path next to you. Now use the switch inside to rotate the room so that it’s also connected to the outer ring. Exit and pass through the adjacent room. Outside, open a sphere containing 8 Vitality Engines. Head east along the outer ring. Midway, throw Mog towards the back wall to get 2000 Gil from a floating sphere. Before entering the n/e room, walk to the end of the path and toss Mog toward the back wall to retrieve a vial of Phoenix Blood.

Enter the room and examine the terminal to obtain the TOP FLOOR ACCESS KEY along with a primer mentioning a special gate. Backtrack to the western room and use the switch inside to rotate the room so that you can access the middle ring’s switch again. Use it to rotate the n/w room so that its path connects to the central elevator. Walk over to the elevator and examine the console to trigger a scene.

After defeating the Greater Behemoth that appears, you arrive at the [AI Nucleus] level. Visit Chocolina and open a sphere near the stairs to receive 3 Potions. Check your party’s paradigms before going upstairs. Approach the center for a cutscene, during which you receive the ARTEFACT OF REBIRTH and automatically pass through the time gate.

BOSS >> Proto fal’Cie Adam

The boss casts Faith on itself (as well as its two Manipulators) then inflicts Imperil and Curse on all party members, so cure that with Esuna. Once you eliminate the Left and Right Manipulators, the boss is reduced to using basic elemental spells. It will eventually recall both Manipulators but they fall easily.

After beating the Proto fal’Cie, a scene occurs then a second incarnation appears...

BOSS >> Proto fal’Cie Adam

This version focuses on physical damage and casts Bravery and Protect on itself. Take out both Manipulators to cause the main body’s attacks to become weaker. As before, the boss will eventually recall both Manipulators so work quickly to reduce its HP until a CAS takes over.

CAS: Right > Up > Right > Circle > tap X > Right > tap X

If you perfected the CAS inputs, you receive a Crystal Apple in addition to Gold Nuggets that can be sold for a premium. Before starting the third round, an LT appears. How you answer determines whether or not you fight the fal’Cie again:

LT - It keeps regenerating...

Press [Square], “scream at Hope” to end the battles. Watch the scene that follows. When it ends you get the PROTO FAL’CIE ADAM FRAGMENT + 6000CP. A time gate appears as well as a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube (I got a Sky Blue Newsboy Cap). Activate the gate by examining the console next to it. Before leaving the Tower, go downstairs and use the elevator to reach the [49th Floor], which you have yet to explore.

On Floor 49, take the s/w path over to the middle ring. Use the switch on the left to rotate the room once so that the back door aligns with the outer ring. Pass through to the outer ring and turn right. Look for a cube floating against the back wall. Throw Mog at it to claim PARADOX AGENT TYPE B. Head south now, towards the crystal gate. Activate it using a Wild Artefact (unlocks Oerba 300AF) but return to the Tower afterwards.

Use the switch on the s/e end to rotate the room next to it. Before entering, walk to the east end and press R1 to have Mog reveal a hidden sphere with a Gold Casino Ticket. Now pass through the room to reach the middle ring. Walk to the northern edge and look down. Spot a small cube near the base of a pillar. Throw Mog directly on it to retrieve PARADOX AGENT TYPE C. Backtrack to the central elevator and go up to the [50th Floor].

On Floor 50, pass through Chocolina’s room to get to the room on the n/w end. Give the second terminal Paradox Agent Type B to get the ENIGMA CODEX FRAGMENT + 400CP. Examine the third terminal and accept its quest:

MISSION: Locate Paradox Agent Type C.

Hand over Paradox Agent Type C to earn the DIFFERENCE ENGINE FRAGMENT, 400CP and ACCESS KEY 13. Backtrack to the elevator and ride up to the [Top Floor]. Examine the shiny gate to unlock Academia 4XXAF on the Historia Crux timeline. Before traveling there, you can return to Augusta Tower 300AF to fill in the rest of the map.

Optional - AUGUSTA TOWER 300AF

Now that you have Access Key13, ride the elevator down to the [13th Floor]. Fill in 100% of the map and throw Mog at two out-of-reach spheres to get a Red Commando Badge and Blue PSICOM Spaulders. There’s also a Saturn-shaped sphere that cannot be accessed yet.

Back in Historia Crux, select a new destination: Academia 4XXAF.

ACADEMIA 4XXAF

After a cutscene, tour the city which is monster-free in this alternate version. Starting on the [Central Bridge], go east. Explore the lower portions of the [Alley] for treasures missed the first time around. In the s/e corner, look for a hidden object. Press R1 to have Mog reveal a WILD ARTEFACT (07/10). To the right, open a sphere containing a Watchman’s Amulet.

Climb the stairs and head north. In the dead end, open a sphere with 8 Power Orbs. Go west, south, west to find a sphere containing a Guardian Amulet. Exit the Alley and head east down [Grand Avenue]. Examine the “Brain Blast” Quiz Terminal marked in pink on your map.

There are four QUIZ TERMINALS scattered throughout the city. Each one asks 10 random questions. If you answer them correctly, you receive a fragment. Some questions relate to gameplay whereas others are specific to Academia’s culture. Beat this particular terminal to get the EPICUREAN SONG FRAGMENT + 500CP as well as a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube (Flower Pattern).

On the north end, visit Chocolina who is standing next to a crystal gate. Use a Wild Artefact to activate it (opens Vile Peaks 300AF on the timeline) but continue exploring Academia 4XXXAF. While on [Grand Avenue], look for spheres inside the small shops to get a Gold Gear and 1200 Gil. Upstairs, open for a sphere containing an Auric Amulet.

Go north now, down a staircase and then up an escalator to get back to [Central Bridge]. Head west into [New Town]. Open a sphere near the stairs to get 8 Power Engines and look for a Quiz Terminal in New Town’s s/w section. Answer all questions correctly to get the LYCEUM KNOWLEDGE FRAGMENT, 500CP and another LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube (Snowy Fairy Wings). On the north end of [New Town], you’ll find the third Quiz Terminal. Answer ten more questions and earn the ACADEMIA WISDOM FRAGMENT + 500CP, as well as a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube (Behemoth Crest).

Cross the [Central Bridge] again to find Chocolina stationed near a kiosk that offers a primer on the 13th Ark project. After a brief scene there, use the moving walkways to get to the n/e plaza where you’ll find a shrouded time gate. Examine it to initiate a scene. Afterwards, continue north towards Academy Headquarters. Collect a Gold Casino Ticket from a sphere on the left then enter the building.

In the [Entrance] foyer, look for a cube behind the front desk containing the ‘FACTS’ GATE SEAL (closes Augusta Tower 200AF). Nearby, Mr. M offers a quest related to monster species. Delay this for now. Instead, look for a transparent man to the north, near the back door. Use R1 to have Mog reveal Captain Cryptic (Amodar from FFXIII) and accept his quest:

MISSION: Take Captain Cryptic’s quiz...

Answer his first question correctly to earn QUIZ RANK: PRIVATE FRAGMENT + 400CP. Captain Cryptic vanishes but will relocate elsewhere in one of 11 different locations inside the city: three spots are within [New Town], seven are near [Grand Avenue], and one spot in the [Alley]. Captain Cryptic holds five fragments in total. Each time you find him, he’ll ask extra questions. If you fail to answer them correctly, Cryptic will warp to a new location. To figure out where he’ll emerge next, eavesdrop on citizens and they will offer clues.

Chocolina is selling wares behind a counter on the far right and you’ll find the last Quiz Terminal on the far left. Beat it to earn the STOIC VIRTUE FRAGMENT + 500CP, as well as a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube (Gadot’s Red Emblem). When ready, go through the back door to enter the [Research Facility].

Talk to Hope three times to get an LT:

LT - Hope has traveled 400 years...

Afterwards, a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube appears (I received a Crystal Star). Now speak with Alyssa about Graviton Core fragments. There are a total of 7 Graviton Core fragments located throughout the world and if you followed this walkthrough, you should already have 4 in your inventory. Alyssa tells you to talk to the woman at the front desk if you need clues on where to find the others.

Talk to Alyssa 3 times to give her Graviton Cores Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. Doing so prompts Hope to mention a particular crystal that can be used to create special weapons for Serah and Noel. He hints that the crystal can be found in Serendipity. Before leaving the Research Facility, stand on one of the blue circles surrounding the Ark device and wait for a hovercraft to arrive. Jump aboard and ride down to the lower level to collect a Platinum Casino Ticket from a sphere.

Return to the [Entrance] and talk to the receptionist at the front desk to learn where the remaining Graviton Cores are located: Yaschas Massif 100AF, Oerba 400AF, and Sunleth Waterscape 400AF. Be patient... there are a few places to explore before you get to those. Return to Historia Crux and select Vile Peaks 010AF.

Optional - VILE PEAKS 010AF & 200AF

If you did not start the Blitz Squad quest in Vile Peaks 200AF, do it now. In 010AF, its snowing and paths previously blocked are now open for exploration. Starting in the n/w corner of [Another Man’s Treasure], have Mog reveal a man lying in the snow near the tunnel. Accept Baxter’s quest:

MISSION: Find the other survivors.

Accepting it earns you BAXTER’S LAST LIGHT FRAGMENT + 800CP. Now head east. At the crossroad in [Dismal Dunescape], turn right to find the pilot, Ray:

MISSION: Defeat the dark monster.

Accept his quest to earn RAY’S LAST LIGHT FRAGMENT + 800CP. Return to the crossroad and head north now. On the other side of the bridge, open a sphere containing a Royal Armlet. Before fighting the dark monster on the hill, enter the alcove behind it to get 8 Mana Orbs from a sphere. Examine the shadowy beast to trigger a cutscene, during which it reveals itself as...

BOSS >> Twilight Odin

Twilight Odin casts lightning spells (which he also absorbs) and uses Flourishing Steel to mercilessly attack a single target, leaving no time to retaliate so have a MED standing by to keep that person alive. Put a SAB in your party and cast Deprotect and Deshell on Odin until both stick. Attack like mad until the boss dispels both. Recast the debuffs and repeat the process.

After the battle, you receive a Martyr’s Badge, 3000CP, and TWILIGHT FRAGMENT ALPHA. Head west and open a sphere on the circular grate containing an Entite Ring. Further ahead, collect a Saint’s Amulet and look for a hidden sphere on the left just before reaching the shadowy figure. Press R1 to have Mog reveal it and claim a Hero’s Amulet. Also, there’s a sphere on top of a crate containing a Zealot’s Amulet.

Have Mog unveil the shadowy figure then talk to Sergeant Blitz for a scene. When it ends, earn SARGE’S LAST LIGHT FRAGMENT + 800CP. Just past Blitz, look for a hidden sphere containing a Platinum Casino Ticket. As you hop down the debris, collect another Platinum Casino Ticket from a sphere. You should have 100% of the map covered now. If so, return to Historia Crux and select Vile Peaks 200AF.

You can now defeat Twilight Odin in this time period. Head west to the spot marked on your map.

BOSS >> Twilight Odin

Although this version of Twilight Odin appears to be stronger, use the same strategy as before.

After the battle, you not only get a Martyr’s Badge, TWILIGHT FRAGMENT BETA + 300CP but also...Twilight Odin’s crystal! Watch a cutscene and when it ends, you automatically receive the ‘RETURN’ GATE SEAL and ‘AFTERIMAGE’ GATE SEAL, closing both Vile Peaks 010AF and 200AF.

Backtrack to the squad gathered on the east end. Along the way, have Mog reveal a figure near the tunnel. After chatting with an old friend, you get the FATHER’S SONG FRAGMENT + 500CP. Continue heading east, back to the reunited squad members for a scene. When it ends, you receive the BLITZ SQUADRON MISSION REPORT FRAGMENT + 500CP. Finally, have Mog reveal a shadowy figure to the south. Talk to the familiar woman for a scene and receive the WORDS OF LIGHT FRAGMENT + 500CP.

Return to Historia Crux afterwards. Select Yaschas Massif 100AF.

YASCHAS MASSIF 100AF

The team arrives at the top of Archaeopolis. Talk to Uma in the oracle tent to learn that Hope is not in this timeline. Search the back of the tent for a hidden cube. Have Mog reveal it to get the BULB OF HOPE. Below, a red orb named Karl wants you to find a lost picture frame:

MISSION: Find the picture frame.

Accept the quest. There’s a floating cube behind the crates underneath the fal’Cie statue. Throw Mog towards it to get a SEALED TABLET. Also, look for a cube underneath the ramp leading to Chocolina. Throw Mog at it to receive the ‘REMINISCENCE’ GATE SEAL (closes Yaschas Massif 100AF) then leave the Archaeopolis.

In the [Pass of Paddra], just a few feet down from Chocolina, look for a hidden cube on the right. After Mog reveals it, collect the COMM DEVICE. Hop down into the alcove near the red chocobo to find another hidden cube containing the PICTURE FRAME. Bring it back to Karl and the orb will give you HELMWIGE’S NIGHTSHADE FRAGMENT + 500CP. Return to the Pass and talk to the red orb near the chocobo. Accept Lambert’s quest:

MISSION: Help Lambert.

Give him the Bulb of Hope you found earlier to receive SIEGRUNE’S SPIRITBLOOM FRAGMENT + 500CP. Continue s/e through the pass. Look for a cube on the right containing a Blessed Blade weapon for Noel. Go south from here to find a red orb offering the next quest. Accept it:

MISSION: Locate the comm device.

Give Sarina the Comm Device you found earlier to receive SCHWERTLEITE’S FLOWER FRAGMENT + 500CP. An anomaly appears in front of a gate to the south. Examine it to enter the Void. Solve 4 stages of Clock puzzles to earn the BOOK OF VALHALLA FRAGMENT + 500CP.

The crystal gate is now cleared but you’ll need to find a Wild Artefact to open it. Cross the metal ramp and head north into the searchlight area. Look for a hidden object floating next to the long fissure. Have Mog reveal it to claim the GRAVITON CORE EPSILON FRAGMENT + 500CP. Further north, talk to the red orb and accept Palmer’s quest:

MISSION: Bring Palmer the Sealed Tablet.

Hand over the tablet you found earlier to receive ROSSWEISSE SKYBLOSSOM FRAGMENT and 500CP. A space-time distortion appears in the Archaeopolis after completing Palmer’s quest. Hike back up and examine the distortion to trigger a scene. Solve 3 stages of Clock puzzles to earn the BOOK OF SHAMBALA FRAGMENT, 500CP, and a WILD ARTEFACT (08/10). Head down to the crystal gate and use the Wild Artefact to activate it.

Back in Historia Crux, Sunleth Waterscape 400AF is unlocked on the timeline. Go there when ready.

SUNLETH WATERSCAPE 400AF

Starting on [Bow Isle] go north for a scene involving 5 colorful miniflans who have lost their friends. Walk over to the red flans and when Mog’s bobble lights up, have him reveal the missing red ones. Earn the LAPIS LAZULI FRAGMENT + 800CP for your good deed.

Next, head s/e down the tree branches to the [Isle of Arboreal Embrace] where a group of white flans are gathered. Walk among them and when Mog’s bobble lights up, press R1 to reveal their missing brethren. Get a COSMO AURA FRAGMENT + 800CP.

Head n/w into the [Hidden Woodland] to find a group of blue flans. Approach them and when Mog’s bobble lights up, reveal their missing pals. Earn the HELIODORE ORE FRAGMENT + 800CP afterwards.

Use the vine to swing across to the [Warpwood] and go north through the [Animal Trail]. When you reach the [Forest Crossroads], you’ll see the green flans. Hop onto the n/w branches and Mog will point out the hidden ones. Use R1 to reveal the greens and earn the CARNELIAN FRAGMENT + 800CP.

Hop down to Chocolina’s area and look for the black flans in the [Overgrown Forest]. Jump down onto the eastern branches to reveal their hidden pals. Earn the CELESTINE FRAGMENT + 800CP.

A cutscene follows, showing flans gathering near the base of the crystal pillar. Go to the spot marked on your map in the [Assembly Area]. Easily defeat the 5 colorful miniflans and watch the scene that follows. When it ends, you receive 2500 CP, the MINIFLAN FRAGMENT and ‘THUNDERSTRUCK’ GATE SEAL (which closes Sunleth Waterscape 400AF). Now go back to the [Assembly Area] and look for a hidden object on the mound where you just fought the miniflan. Press R1 to have Mog reveal GRAVITON CORE ETA FRAGMENT and earn 500CP.

Now return to Historia Crux. Before visiting other places, stop by Serendipity.

Optional - SERENDIPITY ???AF

Visit the Mystic’s tent. You should have enough fragments collected by now to unlock two new Fragment Skills: MONSTER COLLECTOR (increases the odds of obtaining monster crystals) and EYES OF THE GODDESS (camera control during events). Also, now would be a good time to purchase the WILD ARTEFACT (09/10) from one of the prize vendors. You’ll see the Chaos Crystal Hope mentioned listed in the prize menu as well. Wait to buy it if you’re short on cash. Return to Historia Crux afterwards and select Oerba 300AF.

OERBA 300AF

After a cutscene involving Mog, you’ll notice several visible distortions scattered throughout Oerba. The goal is to examine each one and solve the puzzles they offer. Start with the anomaly near the s/e ramp. Warp to the Void and complete 3 stages of Constellation puzzles (connect the crystals) to earn a SPARKLING RUNESTONE FRAGMENT + 500CP.

Descend the ramp to find another anomaly near the stairs. Solve 2 stages of Tile Trials (disappearing floor tiles) to earn an ASTONISHING LIMESTONE FRAGMENT + 500CP. Go down to the beach and walk to where Mog’s bobble lights up. Press R1 to have him reveal a new distortion. Enter the Void and complete 3 stages of Tile Trials to earn a BUBBLY STONE FRAGMENT + 500CP.

Walk back upstairs and head west. Have Mog reveal a 4th distortion near the n/w steps. Solve 2 stages of Clock puzzles to earn a LOVELY STARSTONE + 500CP. Now examine the distortion near the crates in the n/w corner. Solve 3 stages of Clock puzzles to receive a SPINNING MOONSTONE FRAGMENT + 500CP. A new distortion forms in the center of the bridge. Head north to check it out.

Along the way, examine another distortion near the large tree overlooking the beach. Solve 4 stages of Constellation puzzles to get a DEWY BLOODSTONE FRAGMENT + 500CP. You’ll find another anomaly on the upper platform, south of Chocolina. Solve 5 stages of Constellation puzzles to earn a THRILLING MILESTONE FRAGMENT + 500CP.

Now examine the distortion the center of the bridge for a cutscene with Mog. Afterwards, solve 3 stages of Clock puzzles to get a SCORCHING FIRESTONE FRAGMENT + 500CP. Upon solving this one, a final anomaly appears in the [Ashensand] to the south. Solve 5 stages of Constellation puzzles to receive the MOSSY ROSETTA STONE + 500CP.

A message informs you that a labyrinth has appeared in a different era. Head north, back to the crystal gate on the bridge and use a Wild Artefact to activate it. From Historia Crux, select the location that just unlocked: Oerba 400AF.

OERBA 400AF

Watch a cutscene then get to work solving 8 new distortions in this time period. Starting near the crates on the west end of [Village Proper], look for a distortion near the big tree. Examine it and solve 3 stages of Tile Trials to receive the FAREWELL MADELEINE FRAGMENT and 800 CP. Now go south across the bridge into [The Ashensand]. Look for a treasure cube at the very end containing 2 Platinum Casino Tickets.

Hop over the wall in the center of the bridge to find the next anomaly. Solve 2 stages of Tile Trials to earn the TREMULOUS MUFFIN FRAGMENT + 800CP. Go down into the village and Mog will point out a hidden anomaly inside the s/e house. Press R1 to reveal it then solve 6 stages of Constellation puzzles to earn the DISHONEST MILLE-FEUILLE FRAGMENT + 800CP.

Visit Chocolina outside if you wish then examine the anomaly just east of her. Solve 5 stages of Constellation puzzles to get the BITTERSWEET CHIFFON FRAGMENT + 800CP. Walk down the ramp and look for a cube floating on a ledge to the left. Throw Mog at it to get the ‘HOMETOWN’ GATE SEAL, which closes Oerba 400AF. Go west from here to find another distortion. Examine it and solve 4 stages of Constellation puzzles to receive the SELFISH PANCAKE FRAGMENT + 800CP.

Go down to the beach now. On the eastern tip of [The Ashensand], have Mog reveal a hidden sphere containing a Wild Chorus weapon for Serah. Heading west along the sand’s edge look for another hidden sphere containing a Platinum Casino Ticket. Examine the anomaly to the north next. Solve 3 stages of Clock puzzles to earn a BELOVED CINNAMON FRAGMENT + 800CP.

Look for a hidden object on the n/w edge of the sand. Press R1 to have Mog reveal the GRAVITON CORE ZETA FRAGMENT. Now enter the schoolhouse and go up to the terrace where Mog can reveal a hidden anomaly. Solve more Clock puzzles to get the TEATIME BLANC FRAGMENT + 800CP.

Exit the schoolhouse and examine the final distortion near the stairs to the south. After a scene with Mog, solve 6 stages of Clock puzzles to earn the PINK PARFAIT FRAGMENT + 1000CP. During the scene that follows, Mog must decide whether he wants to stay with the party or not. Thankfully, he chooses to continue the journey.

You should have all of the Graviton Cores now and enough gil to purchase the Chaos Crystal in Serendipity. If you’re short on cash, stop by Academia 400AF or Bresha Ruins 300AF to farm some gil before returning to Academia 4XXAF.

Optional - ACADEMIA 400AF

Once again, the pesky Cie’th will hound you as you explore so accomplish only what you need to during this visit - namely, drop off completed maps to Miss Horizon in the [Alley] and fight an optional boss in [New Town].

You should have 3 more maps to turn in to Miss Horizon, earning you the TRAVEL GUIDE: OERBA, TRAVEL GUIDE: VILE PEAKS and TRAVEL GUIDE: AUGUSTA TOWER fragments. Afterwards, make your way up to [New Town] and look for a giant creature blocking one of the northern offshoots. Elect to fight Geiseric if you want the CP and Gil he offers.

OPTIONAL BOSS >> Geiseric

The boss is slow but can kill the entire party with one slap, so cast Protect on everyone and bring in SENs when you see him raise his arm. This is a battle of attrition - patience wins the day...

Defeating Geiseric earns you 5000 Gil and 1000 CP. Return to Historia Crux and select Academia 4XXAF when ready.

ACADEMIA 4XXAF

After obtaining the Chaos Crystal in Serendipity, talk to Hope and you’ll be offered an option. Choose, “Yes” to let him borrow the fragment. Next, talk to Alyssa who takes the 5th Graviton Core. During the scene that follows, you receive the VAGABOND ARTEFACT. Talk to Hope for some additional dialog then speak with your teammate for a scene. Leave the [Research Facility] afterwards.

Assuming you gave Hope the Chaos Crystal, check in with the receptionist at the front desk. Choose which party member will receive a special weapon. If you pick Noel, you receive the ODINBLADE. If you pick Serah, you receive the ODINBOLT. It doesn’t matter which one you pick, because the other weapon is now for sale in Serendipity.

Optional - SERENDIPITY ???AF

Talk to a Vendor and look at the list of Prizes offered. The other special weapon appears at the bottom of the menu. Buy it for 1,000 casino coins (or 10,000 gil). Return to Academia 4XXAF when you’re ready to move on with the main storyline.

ACADEMIA 4XXAF

A chocobo is waiting outside Academy Headquarters if you want to ride it, or just walk down to the shiny gate in the eastern plaza. Examine it for an extended cutscene, followed by an LT:

LT - Caius may be waiting on the other side. Are we ready?

Press [Triangle] if you’re ready and watch the scene that follows. When it ends, another 3-node option appears in the Historia Crux. Select The Void Beyond.

EPISODE 5

THE VOID BEYOND ???AF

After a scene, Serah finds herself alone in a distorted world with Mog mostly out of commission (can only use Moogle Hunt with R1). Move forward through the [Walk of Time] until you spot Yeul. Talk to her for an LT:

LT - Trapped in the shade of Valhalla, Yeul knows something...

When she vanishes, you acquire ETRO’S SORROW FRAGMENT + 600CP. Continue forward, fighting monsters that attack occasionally, and talk to Yeul for another LT:

LT - Goddess gave her servants ability to see the future...

When she vanishes, you acquire PULSE’S RESOLUTION FRAGMENT + 600CP. Open a LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube (I got Caius’ Sword) where Yeul was standing then look for a sphere behind a low wall in the s/e corner. After getting a Librascope from it, walk upstairs and open a sphere on the right containing Serah’s Mask adornment. Speak with Yeul a third time to get LINDZEI’S DESIRE FRAGMENT + 600CP, and a fourth time to receive MWYNN’S TENDERNESS FRAGMENT + 600CP.

Continue upstairs to the [Throne of the Goddess] level, which should look familiar to you. Talk to Yeul again and receive BHUNIVELZE’S SLEEP FRAGMENT + 600CP. Up ahead, you’ll find the shadowy figure of Chocolina. Press R1 to reveal her, even though she sells nothing new. Prep your limited party before talking to Yeul near the gate on top.

BOSS >> Caius Ballad

Although Caius is swift, he has low HP. You can take him down easily by debuffing him while one of your monster pals assumes the SEN role and absorbs damage.

A scene follows, during which you automatically arrive in a new location.

NEW BODHUM ???AF

Serah awakens on the beach near the village with Mog still out of commission. Talk to Lebreau for an LT:

LT - What is this place?

Enter the village and speak with Yuj for an LT:

LT - Yuj is acting like nothing happened...

Maqui is walking around on the sand. Talk to him for an LT:

LT - Maqui says someone is waiting at NORA house...

Finally, speak with Gadot near the house for an LT:

LT - Gadot says I have it easy...

Enter the house for a surreal scene with a friend. As time starts to distort, go outside and open the LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube on the right (I got a NORA Symbol). Talk to the person standing on the pier afterwards. During the cutscene, you are offered a choice:

LT - Should I quit my journey or...

If you answer “Yes” you’ll receive the TRANSCRIPT: FATE AND FREEDOM FRAGMENT +1500CP. Back in Historia Crux, a new node unlocks: Hollow Seclusion ???AF. Select it and the game resumes just before the Live Trigger event on the pier.

To advance the game, answer, “No” and watch the scene that follows. When it ends, Serah hears someone calling her. Follow the mysterious voice towards the meteor crash site. On your way there, visit Chocolina, who is standing roughly in the center of the [Winding Way].

Talk to the figure in the middle of the crater for a cutscene. Before examining the time distortion left behind, open a couple of treasure cubes on the perimeter of the crater. On the s/e edge, get FANG’S CROWN FRAGMENT + 600CP. On the n/e edge get VANILLE’S FRUIT FRAGMENT + 600CP.

Examine the distortion for a cutscene. When it ends, a new node appears on the Historia Crux timeline. Select A Dying World 700AF.

A DYING WORLD 700AF

Starting on [The Beaten Path] in almost complete darkness, enter the niche to the east. Get a Pain Dampener from a sphere then head west towards the red glow in the distance. Watch a scene upon finding Noel then follow him east for a scene with Caius. When it ends, talk to Caius then head south into the [Farseer’s Settlement], where you’ll see several shadowy figures. If you try to reveal them, they’ll evaporate.

About 20 steps ahead, press R1 to have Mog reveal a sphere that contains the MAP OF A DYING WORLD then meander through the shadow people until the moogle’s bobble lights up. Press R1 to have Mog reveal Noel and watch the scene that unfolds. Talk to Noel afterwards, then keep following him until he reaches Caius.

BOSS >> Caius Ballad

Here, Noel must duel Caius alone. Caius retains pretty much the same moves and gains the ability to instantly remove accumulated CG, making it hard to achieve Stagger. Despite this, the boss only has 5000 HP so winning isn’t very hard, especially if Noel is wielding the Odinblade.

After the battle, you receive a Martyr’s Emblem. Watch another scene then open a sphere to the east, behind some steps, containing a White Cape. In the large opening to the south, look for a sphere holding 1500 Gil. Now head n/e into the [Farseer’s Relic]. Examine the shrine for a scene with Yeul and Noel.

When it ends, chase Noel through [The Border] region and further into the [Dead Sands]. After a few scenes, you eventually end up in the [Sandy Highlands] near Chocolina. Visit her if you like or just continue chasing Noel through the darkness until a scene takes over.

BOSS >> Gogmagog

Luckily, you have a full party again when Gogmagog emerges for another round. The boss debuffs himself then transfers his status ailments to the party. While he’s suffering, work quickly to stagger Gogmagog. If you wait too long to take him out, he’ll heal himself and extend what should be a fairly easy battle.

After defeating Gogmagog, the darkness lifts and an LT occurs:

LT - Life shortens each time I see the future...

Elect to “change the future anyways” [press Circle] and receive the GOGMAGOG FRAGMENT GAMMA + 15000CP. Open the LIVE TRIGGER REWARD cube that appears (I got a Crystal Rose), and apply the massive CP Noel accumulated while absent before heading back to the [Farseer’s Relic].

In the [Dead Sands], look for a sphere at the end of the n/w offshoot that contains an Obsidian Choker. There’s a hidden cube in the western alcove below this offshoot that contains a rare Golden Chocobo. Also, collect 10 Vitality Essences from a sphere near a tree in the center of the sand. Ignore the out-of-phase bridge to the west; you’ll be returning here later to fill in that side of the map. Just keep heading south into the [Farseer’s Settlement].

Once there, look for a hidden figure in the second niche on the right. Press R1 to reveal Chocolina. After shopping, pass through the Settlement and look for a cube behind the low wall on the right as you turn north into the [Farseer’s Relic]. It contains the ‘PROMISES’ GATE SEAL, which closes Academia 4XXAF. Examine the shrine for a scene, during which Mog reappears in all his squishy goodness.

Talk to Mog then take some time to explore now that you have his ‘throw’ ability back. Open a sphere behind a wall on the s/e edge of the Relic to obtain 8 Power Essences. Enter the Settlement and throw Mog inside a shed near buildings on the lower west side to get a Phoenix Down. A few paces north of here, throw Mog inside the small well to retrieve a cube containing the ULTIMA BRAND FRAGMENT + 800CP.

When ready, return to the [Farseer’s Relic] and examine the shrine distortion for a scene. When it ends, the party arrives in a new location.

NEW BODHUM 700AF

During a Live Trigger sequence, jump down to the [Beachfront] and turn right. When Mog’s bobble lights up, press R1 to have him reveal a cube containing Phoenix Blood. After the LT, hop back up to the ledge and look in the eastern corner for a cube floating behind the tree roots. Throw Mog at it to retrieve the CARTESIAN BOARD FRAGMENT + 600CP.

Jump down and examine the distortion on the beach to trigger a lovely cutscene. When it ends, you learn the ADVANCED MOOGLE HUNT skill, which allows you to collect treasures hidden inside those gold Saturn-shaped objects you’ve been seeing in different eras (herein will be referred to as “halo” treasures).

Exploring [New Town], you’ll find a hidden cube behind some rocks in the s/w corner. Have Mog reveal it then toss him to retrieve the LAPLACIAN BOARD FRAGMENT + 600CP contained inside. In the n/w corner, reveal Chocolina, who unfortunately sells nothing new. Look for a hidden object inside the niche slightly north of her. Have Mog reveal the ARTEFACT OF THE ARK.

There are two halo cubes on the beach that Mog can uncover using R1: One under the big tree contains the SUPPLY SPHERE ACCESS CODE, which earns you HOPE’S MESSAGE FRAGMENT + 600CP. A second halo cube to the east contains the MAP OF NEW BODHUM 700AF.

Walk across the pier and use the Artefact of the Ark to activate the gate there. After a scene, the party returns to Historia Crux where a new location opens. Storywise, Academia 500AF will be your final destination so before traveling there, you should revisit a few places to wrap up outstanding business. Start by revisiting Serendipity.

Optional - SERENDIPITY ???AF

Visit the Mystic to unlock two new Fragment Skills: BARGAIN HUNTER (get shop discounts) and ANTI-GRAV JUMP (jump further). Return to Historia Crux afterwards and select ‘A Dying World 700AF’ as your next destination.

Optional - A DYING WORLD 700AF

Upon returning, you arrive in the n/w section of the [Abyssal Fissure], which you did not explore before. Head west from the scorched gate and look for a cube floating on the cliffs above. Throw Mog to get the OMEGA BRAND FRAGMENT + 800CP. In the n/e corner, collect 1625 Gil from a sphere then head south towards the red chocobo.

Use R1 to have Mog reveal a bridge you can cross. The halo cube next to the chocobo contains the CHAOS BRAND FRAGMENT + 800CP. Look for a hidden sphere behind the buried train to the west. Have Mog reveal it to collect a Sacred Cross weapon for Noel. Proceed south to eventually arrive at a crystal gate that requires a Wild Artefact. Ignore it for now. Toss Mog into the tree branches next to the gate to collect 9 Power Boosters. There’s another red chocobo walking nearby if you want to ride, or just walk n/e to fill in the map.

You’ll eventually reach Chocolina, who is standing under a large tree. After shopping, have Mog reveal a sphere behind the tree to receive a Platinum Casino Ticket. Slightly north of here, have Mog reveal a second bridge. Cross over into [The Border] region. Head east to find a red chocobo you can ride. Pass through the [Farseer’s Settlement] and go up to the [Farseer’s Relic]. Mog’s bobble lights up in front of the shrine. Press R1 to trigger a scene and LT:

LT - Do you have the courage?

Answer, “I can do this” [Triangle] to receive the final WILD ARTEFACT (10/10). Hop on a chocobo and ride back to the crystal gate in [Abyssal Fissure]. Use the Wild Artefact to unlock a new location in Historia Crux: Bresha Ruins 100AF. Go there when ready.

Optional - BRESHA RUINS 100AF & 300AF

Starting in the [Lamentable Rest] cemetery, talk to the armored Government Agent up ahead, who warns you that the place is teeming with monsters. In truth, the frequency of encounters and species here are no different than Bresha 300. Head west into [Echoes of the Past] and talk to a woman named Pat. Accept her quest:

MISSION: Bring Pat weapon materials.

Chocolina is stationed near the tunnel entrance but offers nothing new. Enter the tunnel and have Mog reveal a halo cube on the dock to get the WEAPON MATERIAL Pat wanted. Bring it back to her to receive a PALLADIUM RING FRAGMENT + 1000CP. Head west again, this time taking the left path down to the lower tunnels. Speak with the Professor near the entrance and accept his quest:

MISSION: Find the missing assistant.

Enter the tunnel and walk down to the dock, where you’ll see a halo-clad man walking around. Press R1 to have Mog reveal the Assistant. Bring the MONSTER ANAYSIS REPORT he gives you back to the Professor to earn an OSMIUM RING FRAGMENT + 1000CP.

After a scene with Mog, head east. Look for a cube on the right near the red chocobo containing an ‘ETERNITY’ GATE SEAL (closes Serendipity) then continue heading east. Speak with the man (Walter) near the alcove at the end, which is finally open. Accept his quest:

MISSION: Pacify the mercenary.

Enter the alcove and reveal a hidden halo sphere on the left to get an Elixir. Talk to the mercenary (Raymond) on the right. During three LTs, pick answers that compliment him [Square, X, Triangle]. Doing so earns you the RUTHENIUM RING FRAGMENT + 1000CP. Open the sphere behind Raymond to get a Chrysalis Arc weapon for Serah.

Now, go back to the cemetery and talk to Ronan, who is standing near the epitaph. Accept his quest to retrieve a device from another time period.

MISSION: Bring Ronan the old device.

The item he seeks is under the same epitaph in Bresha Ruins 300AF. Travel there now and examine the stuffed toy in the cemetery to get the OLD DEVICE. Return it to Ronan in Bresha Ruins 100AF. He tells you the Atlas Device is causing the distortion in this era and hands over the RHODIUM RING FRAGMENT + 1000CP afterwards.

Go check the device in the room off the n/e tunnels. Talk to the man (Porter) inside to learn that you’ll need 2 passwords to activate it. Accept his quest:

MISSION: Obtain both passwords.

Reveal a halo cube in the corner to get the ‘DISASTER’ GATE SEAL, which closes Bresha Ruins 100AF then return to Historia Crux. To find the 2 passwords, you need to do a bit of traveling. Start by teleporting to Yaschas Massif 100AF.

Optional - YASCHAS MASSIF 100AF & 110AF

Go to the Archaeopolis and talk to Uma in the Oracle tent. After she gives you THORNE’S INFORMATION, return to Historia Crux and travel to Yaschas Massif 110AF.

In 110AF, talk to the red orb near the Archaeopolis entrance to hear a message from Paddra Nsu-Yeul. Accept her quest:

MISSION: Defeat the ancient evil.

The creature’s location will be marked on your map. Before fighting the Ugallu, head south into the lower alcove and talk to the man suffering from amnesia (press R1 to reveal him if you didn’t do so earlier). Help him figure out his name during the LT (answer ‘Thorne’) and receive CONTROL DEVICE PASSWORD 1 + 300CP. Thorne hints that the 2nd password will likely be found in the ruins of the future.

Before returning to Historia Crux, take care of the Ugallu monster in the n/w pass. Defeating it nets you the UGALLU FRAGMENT + 2000CP. Watch the scene that follows then warp to Bresha Ruins 300AF.

Optional - BRESHA RUINS 300AF & 100AF

Go back to the Atlas Device room and the Government Agent will be more than happy to talk to you now. Examine the device to enter a time paradox. Solve 3 stages of Tile Trials to receive CONTROL DEVICE PASSWORD 2 + 400CP.

Travel back to Bresha Ruins 100AF and talk to Porter in the device room to trigger a scene, after which you receive the ADAMANTITE RING FRAGMENT + 1000CP. Messing with the device causes a tremor outside. Agree to check it out:

MISSION: Defeat Kalavinka.

The monster’s location will be marked on your map. Go there and fight it to earn the KALAVINKA FRAGMENT + 4500CP, as well as a TOILET PAPER COUPON (much to Mog’s chagrin). Return to Historia Crux afterwards.

Optional - ACADEMIA 400AF

Visit Miss Horizon in Academia 400AF. Give her 100% completed maps of New Bodhum, Bresha Ruins, and A Dying World to get TRAVEL GUIDE: BRESHA RUINS, TRAVEL GUIDE: NEW BODHUM and TRAVEL GUIDE: A DYING WORLD fragments plus CP bonuses.

Optional - ACADEMIA 4XXAF

Locate Captain Cryptic in 4 different areas and answer the rest of his questions to get the fragments QUIZ RANK: SERGEANT, QUIZ RANK: LIEUTENANT, QUIZ RANK: COLONEL and QUIZ RANK: GENERAL plus CP bonuses. Locals drop hints as to where he’ll appear next, which will be in one of 11 specific places listed below:

Grand Avenue: Hiding inside the shop in the n/e corner next to the halo sphere (which contains an Elixir)
Grand Avenue: Hiding in an alcove just south of the eastern Brain Blast terminal
Grand Avenue: Hiding inside the shoe shop, south of the crystal gate
Grand Avenue: Hiding under the staircase, s/w of the crystal gate
Grand Avenue: Hiding in a thin passageway to the north of the staircase
Grand Avenue: Hiding in a thin passageway to the south of the staircase
Grand Avenue: Hiding in a corner next to a set of stairs, roughly n/w from the crystal gate
Alley: Hiding in the window near Miss Horizon
New Town: Hiding near the lower Brain Blast terminal
New Town: Hiding behind the sign under the stairs near the Brain Blast terminal

Optional - VILE PEAKS 300AF & AUGUSTA TOWER 300AF

Retrieve the contents of two more halo spheres that you passed by earlier: In Vile Peaks 300AF, have Mog reveal one behind the scorched gate to receive a Unicorn Horn. In Augusta Tower 300AF, reveal one on the [13th Floor] to get a Blue Pilot’s Badge.

Optional - ARCHYLTE STEPPE ???AF

Enter the [Nomad Camp] and use the weather device to make windy weather. Speak with Myta (the sheep herder) afterwards and accept her quest:

MISSION: Take down the war weapon.

Depart for the [!] mark in [Stonestump Wastelands] where you’ll see a giant mechanical creature roaming about. Defeat the blade-forging Immortal to earn the FRAGMENT OF INVINCIBILITY + 30000CP. Return to camp afterwards and make rainy weather. Talk to Tipur, who asks that you kill another monster. Accept his quest:

MISSION: Defeat the Ochu.

Head towards the [!] mark in [Clearwater Marshes] to face off against Ochu. For defeating it, you earn the OCHU FRAGMENT + 30000CP. Now return to camp and make sunny weather so that the Long Gui appears again.

MISSION: Defeat the Long Gui.

Taking down the giant monster earns you the LONG GUI FRAGMENT + 30000CP. Return to camp and make stormy weather. Talk to Tipur and accept his final quest:

MISSION: Hunt the grief-stricken Cie’th.

Hop on a chocobo and ride to the [!] mark on your map, which is at the top of [Grave Ridge]. Glide onto the tall stone pillar there. When you land, the battle automatically begins. Pluck Yomi’s feathers to earn the YOMI FRAGMENT + 30000CP.

Optional - SERENDIPITY ???AF

Visit the Mystic to learn two new Fragment Skills: ROLLING IN CP (obtain more CP after battles) and ENCOUNTER MASTER (face more or less monsters). If you earned all fragments in Archylte Steppe ???AF & Academia 4XXAF, you’ll also unlock the FIELD KILLER and CHOCOBO MUSIC (change music heard while riding a Chocobo) fragment skills.

If you haven’t done so already, purchase two fragments at the Prize booth to get SETZER’S DICE and JUST 1 GIL. You can earn the last fragment here by playing the slot machines and winning at least 7,777 casino coins. The effect is cumulative, meaning you do not need to win all coins in one session to get the LUCKY COIN FRAGMENT.

When you’re ready to continue with the main story, select Academia 500AF from the Historia Crux timeline.

FINAL EPISODE

ACADEMIA 500AF

After a cutscene, you learn about the Labyrinth of Chaos that lies before you. In order to navigate the maze, you’ll need to turn on the “Anti-Grav” fragment skill. If you don’t have the skill, visit the Mystic in Serendipity before moving forward. Academia 500AF is filled with moving paths and gaps that you need to jump across safely. If you fail to time your jumps, you start back the beginning of the maze. Along the way, you’ll find some cactuar stones that serve as checkpoints. Once activated, you’ll reappear at that location instead of the beginning if you accidentally fall through a gap.

Start by opening a cube on the right to get the ‘DETERMINATION’ GATE SEAL (closes A Dying World 700AF). Head north, jumping across two gaps to reach Chocolina who finally sells new weapons and high-grade monster materials. Press X to activate the cactuar checkpoint next to her and collect a Phoenix Down from a sphere on the right. Move forward for a scene explaining that you should look for patterns in the moving sections and time your jumps accordingly.

Standing at the edge of the t-junction, there are blocks that rise and fall on the left and right. Wait for the block on the right to settle then jump onto it and head east. Hop off at the end and wait for the next block to turn so that you can go north. Run across to the safe circle where you’ll find a sphere containing Phoenix Blood, as well as monster encounters. Ignore the stairs and backtrack to the t-junction near Chocolina. Head west now.

Wait for blocks to turn and time your jumps to reach the cactuar checkpoint on this side. After activating it, head east. At the next safe circle, open a sphere containing the MAP OF ACADEMIA 500AF. Wait for the eastern path to connect then jump onto a moving beam. Stop in the center and while facing south hop down onto the lower platform. Collect a Brawler’s Wristband from the sphere there then purposefully fall through the gap to reappear at the western checkpoint.

Back at the cactuar stone, go north up a staircase. On top, you’ll see an L-shaped path that swings east to west. Wait for the path to swing west and follow it to a platform with a staircase. Go down and collect a Shaman’s mark from a sphere then backtrack to the checkpoint. Wait for the L-shaped path to swing east now and jump across. Approach the [!] mark to trigger a scene.

BOSS >> Pacos Amethyst & Pacos Luvulite

Both foes use area attacks and stomp the ground for moderate physical damage. Stick Deprotect and Deshell on them to make staggering much easier. When one falls, the other begins a chant called ‘Split’ to resurrect its partner so work quickly to take it out before you have both to contend with again. Note though, that the revived one will start with whatever HP the other currently has.

After defeating the duo, Chaos Blocks appear on the map. Switching them to blue or red allows you to manipulate paths, creating new routes. When the primer ends, you receive the AMETHYST AND LUVULITE FRAGMENT + 8000CP. There’s a cactuar stone on the platform as well as a chaos block. Activate the checkpoint and switch the red block to blue. Consult your map to see how the paths change after flipping the block.

Work your way over to the east side of the maze by using the moving staircase on the right. Wait for the staircase to pivot then jump east onto the safe circle, where you’ll find the next cactuar checkpoint. Press X to activate it. Go downstairs and switch the chaos block to blue.

Walk back upstairs to the checkpoint and wait for the L-shaped beam to face north. Follow it to the [!] mark on the platform in the center. Activate the cactuar checkpoint and switch the chaos block next to it to red so that the T-shaped beam above swivels left and right. Hop onto the T-beam and wait for it to turn east. Jump off and open a cube containing ‘SISTERS’ GATE SEAL, which closes New Bodhum 700AF.

Jump onto the T-beam again and wait for it to swivel west. Hop off and switch the next chaos cube to blue. Now jump onto the T-shape and wait for it to turn east. Continue heading east, using the moving staircase to reach the platform above. Activate the cactuar checkpoint there and switch the chaos block to red.

Hop onto the L-shaped path when its facing n/e. Jump off the edge, landing on the circle below. Have Mog reveal a halo sphere to receive an Elixir then purposefully fall off the end to reappear on the platform with the cactuar stone. Switch the chaos block back to blue then use the L-shaped path to reach the swiveling T-shaped beam above.

Jump onto the small circle in the center when the T-beam is facing west. Throw Mog across the northern gap to fetch a sphere containing 7 Vitality Boosters on a platform that is not marked on your map. Afterwards, hop onto the T-beam on the left and ride it west. Jump off and walk down to the platform with the [!] marker.

Activate the cactuar checkpoint and switch the chaos block to red. Hop onto the L-shaped beam when it’s facing west. Walk to the end and jump down onto the circle below. Collect a Royal Armlet from the sphere there then purposefully fall off the edge to return to the checkpoint above.

Head east again, using the L-shaped beam to get to a single tile that you need to stand on while waiting for the T-bar to swing around. Jump onto the T-bar and ride it around to the platform facing north. Hop off and ascend the stairs to the west. Wait for the L-beam on top to point north. Jump off and ascend the next staircase. On top, a fierce Proto Behemoth and his two Saboteur cronies will attack. After defeating them, head east towards the next [!] marker.

Watch a cutscene then open a treasure cube to get the ‘FINAL BATTLE’ GATE SEAL (closes Academia 500AF). Examine the small cactuar in the upper left corner to create a checkpoint. The large red cactuar in the center is a waystone that takes you back to the beginning of the maze. Should you choose to use it, switch the chaos block in the n/e corner to blue, otherwise ignore both. Chocolina is stationed here and she sells some new merchandise. This will be your last opportunity to shop before moving on to the final battles so take advantage.

Before moving north, there’s one last treasure to collect. Head east down two staircases then south down a third and you’ll see a sphere floating on a circle not marked on your map (to the left). In order to retrieve it, hop onto the L-bar when it’s facing west and switch the chaos block at the end of the western path to blue. Once it’s been set, backtrack east and wait for the L-bar to face you (with the other end pointing ‘up’). Hop on and run to the edge. Quickly throw Mog towards the sphere before the bar rotates. If successful, you receive a Gold Bangle. Return to Chocolina’s platform afterwards (just fall off once you have the treasure).

Prepare your party (upgrade monsters, apply CP, set paradigms, etc.) and when ready, head north for an extended cutscene.

BOSS >> Chaos Bahamut

Chaos Bahamut starts with close combat attacks (swipes at party or splits flames) then switches to long-range attacks, using projectiles or magic that wounds the entire party. Bring in a SAB to Deprotect the flying creature and your work will become much easier. Have a MED standing by to heal and SENs ready to mitigate damage from its Megaflare attack.

BOSS >> Caius Ballad

Caius begins by sticking Curse, Deprotect, Deshell, Poison, and Daze on a single character and uses Chain Breaker to remove accumulated chain gauge percentage, making him hard to stagger. Use a SAB to Poison, Deprotect and Deshell him - if nothing else, it’ll keep Caius busy dispelling the effects during his turns. When his HP is reduced to about half, Caius will start attacking one person exclusively. He is not susceptible to Provoke this time so don’t count on SENs taking the damage. Heal when necessary and continue attacking until a scene takes over.

After leaving Caius, the party ends up in a new location...

VALHALLA ???AF

The scene continues in Valhalla with no time for rest.

BOSS >> Caius Ballad

Use the same strategy as above, knowing that Caius can now be Provoked. Take advantage by bringing in SENs when he’s about to unleash an Ultima attack and keep sticking him with Poison to counteract the Regen he casts on himself. Once you are able to stagger him, he’ll be gone in a couple of hits.

After Noel confronts his nemesis, three powerful foes appear.

BOSS >> Garnet Bahamut, Amber Bahamut, Jet Bahamut (Ebon Seeds)

In order to hurt the boss in the center, you must kill the two Bahamuts on the sides. One sports constant Protect and Shell, and the other sports constant Bravery and Haste. Both are immune to Dispel. Amber mainly annoys you with status changes (Deprotect, Curse, Deshell) and minor Wound damage, while Garnet swipes those in front or uses wind and fire magic. Check to see which Bahamut has Bravery and Haste, and eliminate that one first. Inflict Deprotect then stagger it to finish it off. When the two fall, Jet Bahamut launches a stink cloud that inflicts Slow, Poison and Curse on the party. Quickly remove these with Esuna or Remedies then bring in a SAB to Poison the boss while a SEN draws fire. Jet Bahamut uses area attacks and will sometimes employ tiny Ebon Seed reinforcements to annoy you. Rid them easily and continue working on the big guy. When you see Jet Bahamut charging up for its major attack (a countdown caption appears), bring in SENs before the number reaches ‘1’. If you don’t act quickly enough, its Gigaflare attack may wipe out the party. Should this happen, you will be given the ‘Retry’ option starting with this trio or can elect to return to the previous save point (on the platform next to Chocolina) and do the whole series of battles over again. Assuming you survived the boss’s Gigaflare attack, keep whittling away at it until Jet resurrects one of its sidekicks (Garnet or Amber) and retreats to the back again. If you don’t take out the first one quickly enough, the boss will revive the second Bahamut as well. Additionally, Jet Bahamut will begin a countdown while in the back, casting a double or triple ‘Flare’ attack that again can wipe out the party if you don’t switch to SENs fast enough. Simply repeat whatever moves worked before until Jet Bahamut’s HP reaches zero.

After the battle, a Cinematic Action Sequence occurs:

CAS: Press [Circle] or [Square] or nothing... the outcome is always the same.

Watch the closing scenes and end credits. When they finish, you receive the PARADOX SCOPE FRAGMENT, 30000CP, and THE ‘HOPE’ GATE SEAL, which allows time reversal in Valhalla ???AF. Save your cleared game when prompted. Loading this file allows you to collect all remaining fragments, skills, etc. (see ‘Post Game’ details below). CONGRATULATIONS!

Optional - Post-Game & Paradox Endings

SERENDIPITY ???AF / ACADEMIA 400AF

Start by visiting the Mystic in Serendipity. For beating the game, you automatically unlock the PARADOX SCOPE fragment skill, which allows you to explore new potential histories, and discover new options, items and enemies. Make sure it is turned on in the fragment skills menu before continuing.

If you completed 100% of both Academia maps (4XXAF and 500AF) visit Miss Horizon in Academia 400AF, to get the TRAVEL GUIDE: ACADEMIA FRAGMENT + 400CP as well as the ACADEMIC RANK: PARADOX PROFESSOR FRAGMENT + 1500CP. Afterwards, return to the Mystic in Serendipity to unlock the BATTLEMANIA fragment skill (allows you to increase the encounter rate for powerful enemies, especially rare ones).

NEW BODHUM 700AF

Go to the [Beachfront] and look to the right of the dock for SERAH’S MESSAGE FRAGMENT + 600CP. On the western end, collect NOEL’S MESSAGE FRAGMENT + 600CP. Return to Historia Crux afterwards.

PARADOX ENDINGS

Gain 8 different ‘Transcript’ fragments by replaying (closing) various locations with the Paradox Scope turned on:

To get the TRANSCRIPT: A GIANT MISTAKE FRAGMENT + 1000CP, close Bresha Ruins 005AF and beat Atlas before he is weakened (in other words, do not use the device).

To get the TRANSCRIPT: VANILLE’S TRUTH FRAGMENT + 1000CP, close Oerba 200AF and fight Caius with the Paradox Scope turned on. Instead of leaving after the first round, Caius will revive himself and instigate a second battle.

To get the TRANSCRIPT: MOG’S MARVELOUS FLAN PLAN + 1000CP, close Sunleth Waterscape 300AF and defeat the Royal Ripeness after your initial cinematic introduction to it. Beating the giant flan unlocks Sunleth Waterscape ???AF on the Historia Crux timeline. Travel there to witness a comical scene and obtain the fragment.

To get the TRANSCRIPT: TEST SUBJECTS FRAGMENT + 1000CP, close Augusta Tower 200AF and fight Proto fal’Cie Adam on the [Top Floor]. The boss will not regenerate this time; instead, a new location unlocks: Augusta Tower ???AF. Travel there to witness some scenes and obtain the fragment.

To get the TRANSCRIPT: FATE AND FREEDOM FRAGMENT +1500CP, answer “Yes” during the Live Trigger event on the dock with Lightning in New Bodhum ???AF.

To get the TRANSCRIPT: THE FUTURE IS HOPE FRAGMENT + 3000CP, close Academia 4XXAF, and replay the events until Alyssa asks for the Graviton Cores. After taking the first five, a Live Trigger event occurs wherein she’ll offer you an artefact to open the n/e gate. Decline the artefact. By not taking the artefact, a paradox starts and Serah must use her wits to see it through. If successful, you receive the transcript fragment.

To get the TRANSCRIPT: BENEATH A TIMELESS SKY FRAGMENT + 10000CP, close the Void Beyond from the gate in Academia 4XXAF. Instead of meeting up with Caius at the end, he’ll appear while Serah is chasing down Yeul. Make sure you have strong monster allies in your party to compensate for Noel’s absence. After the battle, a new location unlocks in Historia Crux. Travel to New Bodhum ???AF and watch the scenes that unfold.

To get the TRANSCRIPT: HEIR TO CHAOS FRAGMENT + 10000CP, turn off the Paradox Scope and return to Academia 4XXAF. Enter the gate and play through the Void Beyond and New Bodhum ???AF parts as normal. Once you reach A Dying World 700AF, turn on the Paradox Scope. Play through events until Noel must duel Caius alone. Beat him to open a new location on the Historia Crux timeline. Enter A Dying World ???AF and watch the unfortunate scene that unfolds.

SECRET ENDING

After collecting all 160 Fragments, return to Academia 500AF (you do not need to close the location) and fight the final bosses with the Paradox Scope turned on. You will see the secret ending after all of the end credits have rolled and earn the final Anomalous Achievement trophy.
