NOTE: This walkthrough relates to the PS3 version of “Eternal Sonata” and covers the first playthrough of the game. Sections called “Encore” indicate areas where subsequent playthroughs will differ from your initial experience. After a long opening cutscene, you’ll take control of a little girl named Polka on the Path to Tenuto. To skip cutscenes, press the <Start> button and select “Yes” when given the option. CHAPTER 1: RAINDROPS PATH TO TENUTO South Section North Section When you regain control of Polka, search the side of the road for a chest containing another PEACH COOKIE. Fight through more enemies as you proceed up the hill. Enter Tenuto Village. TENUTO VILLAGE Polka’s house is in the center of town but before going there, explore the other residences and speak to the locals to learn about current events. In particular, climb the stairs on the right and enter the nearby residence. Look for a PEACH COOKIE inside a small vase on the shelf. After getting the item, exit and go back downstairs. Cross the bridge near the Save Point and look for a path just to the right of the horse stable. Follow it up to the Flower Field. After entering the field, look inside the shed on the right to find FLORAL POWDER and inspect the lone rock at the far end of the field to obtain an ANGEL TRUMPET. Speak with the two girls in the middle as well. Return to the village afterwards. Enter Polka’s house, which is across from the horse stable to the north. After a scene with mom, action switches to two young boys fresh off of a bakery raid in the town of Ritardando. RITARDANDO Underground Path / Secret Hideout Return to town and enter the pharmacy near the flower vendor. Speak to the proprietor and examine the shelves to learn more about mineral powder, a very popular item it seems. Head over to the sewers when you’re ready to proceed with the game. RITARDANDO SEWERS West Side After the tutorial, take the path all the way to the end to find a chest with a PEACH COOKIE. Backtrack past the collapsed ladder and cross the stone bridge on the right. Move towards camera (south, let’s say) until you reach a chest containing an ANGEL TRUMPET. After collecting the item, return to the bridge and enter the opening on the right. Center / East Side West Side / Rear BOSS >> Bread Gang, Florite Mouse x2 Strategy: Ignore the large rodent at the start of the battle and concentrate on eliminating the two pesky Florite Mice since they can heal the big guy. Have Beat take a photo of Bread Gang (ideally from the side with his mice buddies) then move him into the shade for the remainder of the battle so he can use Rapid Shooter. Have Allegretto pummel the boss with physical attacks then quickly use Sun Slash. As with all enemies in the game, Bread Gang’s posture will change when he’s near defeat. When he slumps over, go in for the kill. For defeating the boss, you’ll receive a RAT TAIL (key item) and a SABER. You might also get a Peach Cookie. Watch the scenes that follow, eventually switching control back to Polka with her new companion, Frederic, in Tenuto’s Flower Field. TENUTO VILLAGE Assuming you collected items in the field earlier, return to Polka’s house for a dialog scene. Afterwards, enter the rear bedroom and grab an ANGEL TRUMPET from the plant. Leave the house and search a patch of flowers near the stairs (below the waterwheel) to get a PEACH COOKIE. When ready, save your game and take the northeast path into Heaven’s Mirror Forest.
HEAVEN’S MIRROR FOREST Follow the path up a set of stairs. After fighting an enemy, look for an opening on the right with a chest containing a POISON WHITECAP. Return to the main path and continue forward into South forest. South Middle North North BOSS >> Forest Boar Strategy: The Forest Boar is a tough foe but you can make this fight a lot easier if you toss a Poison Whitecap on the boss at the start. By doing so, you’ll shave about 350 HP off him each turn. Spread out so the boss cannot charge both characters at once, and hit it from the side or back so that it cannot block your attacks. As before, when you see the Forest Boar start to slump, go in for the kill. * PARTY LEVEL 2 * Upon defeating the boss, you’ll earn a BAMBOO SHAFT and your Party Level increases. At Level 2, the Action Gauge changes to real time, meaning that once you move during a turn, time will continually decrease. You still have unlimited Tactical Time to plan your moves, however. RITARDANDO After the cutscene, you’ll be back in control of Allegretto and Beat. Exit the Hideout and return to the sewers. Go to the area where you fought Bread Gang and speak with the kids gathered there. One of them (Lib) will take the Rat Tail you received earlier and give you a STICK. The exchange triggers a long mini-game where you’ll be trading particular items with people you meet throughout your journey. The chest on the right cannot be opened yet, so exit the sewers. Back in town, enter the church at the top of the stairs. Speak to the priest inside twice to heal your party. Next, go down to the beach and speak to the fellow sitting against the wall on the right to trade the Stick for DENTURES. Make sure to sell any photos Beat took at the Item shop. If a guest photographer happens to be in a shop at the time you sell pictures, they’ll appraise at a much higher value. Once you are ready to move on, leave town via the upper left path. AGOGO FOREST South Middle South BOSS >> Baby Dragon, Florite Mouse x2 Strategy: Build up your Echoes while taking out the mice then unleash on the dragon using Sky Divider. If possible, Beat should take a few photos of the Baby Dragon before moving into the shade on the left and attacking from a distance. The boss has several 2-turn attacks you’ll want to guard against: Red Heaven in particular, which sprouts lava from the ground harming anyone inside its radius for over 300-damage and Fiery Breath, which causes about the same. Use items to heal when necessary. Upon defeating the dragon, you’ll receive a STONE SWORD HILT and at least one PEACH COOKIE. Watch the “Raindrops” sequence that follows - one of several biographic interludes describing parts of Chopin’s actual life that periodically pop up throughout the game. The story picks up with Polka and Frederic afterwards. Middle North On top, head north to a chest containing a WET UMBRELLA for Polka. Equip it then backtrack south to the wooden planks. Cross over to an enemy. After defeating it, ascend the stairs to reach the North forest. North BOSS >> Fugue It’s impossible to win this battle so just do your best and watch the scenes that follow. When you regain control of Allegretto and Beat, you’ll be in the same spot that Polka and Frederic started off. (Refer to the Middle North section above if you get lost or missed any items earlier.) When you reach the area where Fugue was, you’ll encounter an angry old man instead. Give him the Dentures to receive GREEN PAINT. Remember the painter you met earlier? Go all the way back to him now (in Middle South) to exchange the Green Paint for a pair of LONG JOHNS. After making the trade, return to the spot where you found the old man and hike up the hill to Agogo Village. AGOGO VILLAGE After a few scenes, Frederic joins up with Allegretto and Beat. Although your goal is to rescue Polka near the cave entrance, feel free to explore the village first. Inspect the colorful food stand next to March to obtain your first SCORE PIECE. There are many Score Pieces scattered throughout the game and from now on, you’ll come across people who want to play sessions with you. Sessions are ranked based on the Score Piece you select, with Rank-S being a perfect match and offering the best prizes. To make selections easier, this guide will number Score Pieces in the order found. You can view, listen to, and mark all pieces you acquire via the main menu. Enter the building to the right of the Save Point. Check crates near the door for FLORAL POWDER and inspect the area below the stained glass window to get a GLOWING TAIL. Descend the spiral ramp. You’ll find an Item shop on the bottom. Sell your photos and buy new gear there, then exit through the front door. Head west up the path and examine the totem next to the stairs to receive 1 GOLD. Go up and enter March’s house in the center of town. Collect a CLUB CLOVER from the large vase in back and a TWILIGHT FEATHER from a birdcage hidden behind the bookcase. When ready, save your game and head west up the path next to March’s house. BOSS >> Ogre Champ, L’Opera Knight x2 Strategy: The Ogre Champ has a four-hit attack that sweeps the area horizontally and can deal around 400-damage. His Ground Strike and Big Smash attacks radiate around the target. As before, take out the minions first then wail on the Ogre Champ. Have Beat stick to long-range attacks while Frederic and Allegretto fight up close. With three party members, one being a healer, the battle should end fairly quickly. After defeating the Ogre Champ, the party receives a LONG SWORD. Watch the scenes that follow, ending Chapter 1. CHAPTER 2: REVOLUTION Chapter 2 begins with another biographical snippet describing Chopin’s life during wartime. When it ends, your party will be at the entrance to Chorus Plains. Before proceeding, go back to Agogo Village. AGOGO VILLAGE Return to the cave area where you fought Ogre Champ and search the red mushrooms on the right for a POISON WHITECAP. Visit March in her house if you need to replenish the party’s health and save your game. Return to Chorus Plains via the northeastern path. CHORUS PLAINS South Side South Lake After making the trade, hike back up to the western fence and follow it north to a large boulder where you’ll find a CLUB CLOVER. From there, head east past the dock to reach a detour path leading to the next area. East Lake BATTLE >> Maledictors x 3 Strategy: Viola automatically replaces one of your party members so you’ll have a chance to test out her bow skills against the trio of Maledictors. In order to effectively use her ranged weapon, hold down the X button while moving the left analog stick to target an enemy. Once targeted, press X repeatedly to let her arrows fly. The Maledictors are swift magic users that tend to move around a lot, so keep your party healthy throughout. Watch the scene that follows, ending up inside Viola’s house. Viola’s House / North Side CABASA BRIDGE As you approach the bridge, a scene occurs. Halfway across, another scene transpires, and a third after you make it to the other side. When you finally regain control, enter Fort Fermata. FORT FERMATA Save your game at the entrance then move forward to a door. Since it is locked, use the hole on the left to enter the western side of the fort. West Side From your starting position on the bottom floor of the west’s inner ring, move forward and cross the cracked bridge on the left to get to the middle ring. From there, climb the ladder to the north. On top, go south and descend the ladder at the end. Head west and enter the building up ahead. You can fight or avoid the two Maledictors patrolling inside if you time your movement correctly. Either way, pass through the room to get to the other side. Use the Save Point here then enter the small room at the end. A map on the wall shows your current position relative to the entire fort but is fairly useless. Examine the device in front of it and choose to push the switch. Doing so rotates the paths outside. Exit the room and climb the ladder across from the Save Point. On top, head east to a wall and follow it south to get to the outermost ring. Head west on this path until you reach a ladder. Climb down and continue heading west to the room at the end. Fight an enemy and collect RED VELVET armor from the chest inside. Do not use the switch in the center, as it resets all paths to their starting positions. Just make a note of this room should you get lost and need to start over. Exit and return to the ladder. Climb up and continue heading west along the outer ring until you reach the next ladder. Descend and go north. Inspect the plants on the right to receive 100 GOLD. The room further north is locked so return to the ladder and climb back up. Continue heading north until you reach the wall. Once there, go south and enter the opening on the right. Use the Save Point over Central Road then enter the eastern side of the fort. East Side West Side Pass through the building to the north, re-engaging the two Maledictors inside if you wish. Open a chest on the other end to receive a POISON BLOOD then return to the Save Point. Enter the switch room to the south and pull the switch to rotate the paths again. Exit and climb the ladder near the Save Point. Head east to the wall and follow it south as far as you can. Take the outer ring all the way around to the opposite wall. Head south to reach Central Road and pass through to the East Side. East Side Pass through the room below and get a RAPID FIRE bow from a chest on the other side. Go back through the room and climb up the ladder. Walk across the roof again. Veer east then north, taking the rightmost path over to ladder. Climb down then head south. Ascend the next ladder on the right. On top, continue heading south along the perimeter until you reach a chest containing a MAPLE BATON. Now backtrack north, past all ladders, until you get to the wall. Once there, head south until you reach the exit. Central Road - North BOSS >> Killer Knight, Maledictor x2 Strategy: Two Maledictors join the Killer Knight in this battle. By now, you should be able to take them out in one turn with physical attacks and ending with a Special Attack. Since they are so close to the big guy, some Special Attacks hit both targets at once. Once you’ve eliminated the two sidekicks, spread out your party to avoid the Killer Knight’s all-encompassing sweeps. If you are using Viola, park her near one of the torches so that she can shoot arrows and heal from afar while others work up close. As always, hit the boss from the side or back so that it cannot block your attacks. Although the Killer Knight has a ton of HP and high attack rating, you’ll be able to sustain damage from the majority of his powerful attacks pretty easily. * PARTY LEVEL 3 * After the battle, you receive a LACE VEIL and the FORT FERMATA KEY, as well as a Party Level increase. At Level 3, the Action Gauge is lowered to 4-seconds and Tactical Time is reduced to 3-seconds. On the plus side, you gain 2 more Special Attack slots (toggle them using the R2 button) and your Item Set is increased to 20. Watch the scenes that follow. When you regain control, open a chest near the top door to get SCORE PIECE 2. Use your key to exit Fort Fermata (note that this key also opens the locked room in the fort, but there’s nothing to gain by going back at this stage). HANON HILLS South Midway When ready, save your game and return to the main road. Fight enemies on the left to access a chest holding some ODD CHOCOLATE. Hike up the hill and speak to the Traveler sitting under the big tree to trade your Goat’s Milk for a PIGGY BANK. Afterwards, walk down the hill and look for a chest containing CLUB CLOVER on the right. Continue forward to the next area. North FORTE CITY Upon entering town, the party decides to rest for the night. There’s an Inn to the right of the Save Point but before going there, head north to the Castle Gate. Castle Gate
Forte City After conducting business there, enter the Tavern next door and speak with the barmaid to learn that Phil was recently seen harassing an elderly customer. If you like, you can listen to Chopin’s “Mazurka” on the piano upstairs, otherwise exit the tavern and speak to the Tipsy Old Man swaying around near the Save Point. Keep talking to him until he mentions seeing Phil heading off towards the cliffs. After saving your game, take the western path up to the cliff entrance. Talk to the man near the cart so that you can pass. Watch a brief scene wherein the party finds Phil’s shoe and assumes he fell off of the cliff. Afterwards, climb down the rope near the barricade. GLISSANDO CLIFFS Area 1
Leave the Wiseman by hopping off the right edge. After fighting an enemy below, cross the bridge on the left into Area 2. Area 2 Fight an enemy near the rope dangling in between two rock formations. After defeating it, look for a small grey ledge near the formation on the right that you can stand on. Hop down onto a patch of grass and climb up the dangling rope from there. Open the chest on top to receive a REED BOW then head east. Fight a hidden enemy behind the tree then jump off the edge to a Save Point, below. Slide down the rope near the Save Point to reach Area 3. Area 3 At the bottom, head west. Ignore the next rope and hop over some gaps to reach the western end. Look behind the large tree for a hidden chest containing a SPIRIT ARROWHEAD. Now backtrack to the rope and climb down. Slide down the next one as well. Head west past the waterfall into Area 4. Area 4 Continue climbing down ropes until you reach shallow water. Head west for a scene with Phil. When it ends, the party will be back at the top of the cliffs. FORTE CITY Return to the Inn for another scene, during which the party rests for free. In the morning, enter the Tavern and check the basket near the stairs to receive a LEAD SLUG (the item is only available after rescuing Phil, btw). You can revisit the Glissando Cliffs to get one additional item, a STAR CLOCK, in the water where you found Phil, but it’s not really worth the effort. Visit the Item shop to restock supplies (particularly Angel Trumpets) and save your game before heading up to the Castle Gate. Castle Gate BOSS >> Tuba Strategy: Tuba is a powerhouse and easily the strongest enemy you’ve encountered thus far. His Mega Mash attack can deal over 400-damage three times in a row, so prepare revive anyone caught off guard. Timing your blocks is critical to surviving, even with two healers in the party. Since Tuba’s physical attacks and Gigantic Slam can hit multiple targets, don’t keep party members next to each other. Spread out and have someone heal at every turn even if the party is at full health just to be safe. You will not receive anything after the battle, except a night in a jail cell. FORTE DUNGEON After Allegretto uses his lock-picking skills to free everyone, equip your new party member, Salsa, with any leftover gear you may have. The little squirt is fierce; don’t let the bad voice acting distract you into not using her. Take advantage of the Save Point and inspect the guard’s desk on the left to get a CLUB CLOVER then head east. After a brief scene in front of a mirror, continue heading east. The prisoner in the cell (Thief Slur) will play a session with you but, alas, you don’t have any score pieces he likes yet, so move on.
Search the boxes on the right to find another CLUB CLOVER then approach the hole in the wall for a dialog scene. When it ends, enter Andantino’s Secret Passage. ANDANTINO’S SECRET PASSAGE North Sections / Cave Move forward until you find a jump point on the left. Hop down to an enemy guarding a chest. After defeating it, open the chest to get a BRANCH SWORD. Jump off the ledge to reach the path below. Head east to a chest containing a STAR COOKIE then go west into North Section 3. Follow the path to an intersection populated with flying enemies. Fight them then head south until you reach a chest containing a FRILLY UMBRELLA. Backtrack to the intersection and go north now, returning you to the original fork in North Section 1. Head east again, past the Save Point, until you get to the second fork. Take the path on the right back into the cave. Continue past the jump point you used earlier to reach the South Cavern. South Sections / Cavern Keep heading south until you arrive at a pool. Walk onto the peninsula between the waterfalls to find a chest containing a BUFFALO HORN. Take either path around to the other side and continue forward to the next split. Go left until you can veer east onto the center path. Cross over to the other side and open the chest on the left to obtain a DRAGON SCALE item. Continue forward to the top of the cavern. Once there, head east along the back ledge until you reach a cluster of enemies at a T-junction. After ridding them, head southeast to find a chest with a STAR COOKIE. Loop back around and go west until you reach a Save Point and the exit. HANON HILLS Having emerged from the cavern in a familiar spot, the party meets up with the Andantino crew, who suggest going back to Viola’s house. Fell free to make a pit stop at the northern caravan if you want to rest or restock supplies; otherwise, head south. Along the way, you’ll see a guy sitting on a mound to the left. Talk to him in order to trade Speed Shoes (unless you sold them, you should still have an extra pair) for a FRUIT BASKET. After the exchange, continue heading south to the Save Point. Move forward for some scenes. When they end, the party will be inside Fort Fermata. FORT FERMATA Exit from the south using the key you received during the earlier boss fight here. After more dialogue outside, go down to the Save Point. Arrange your party so that you have a least one healer in the first two spots, refill Item Slots and save your game before exiting the fort. CABASA BRIDGE Start walking across the bridge. About halfway, your old buddy Tuba shows up. Seeking payback for the punch he took earlier, Beat will automatically join the battle party, replacing whoever was in the third spot. BOSS >> Tuba Strategy: Tuba’s arsenal remains the same except each hit causes far more damage now. Use whatever strategy worked during your first encounter, factoring Beat into the mix. If you use him a lot, the fight will be more or less the same. If not, place Beat as far away from Tuba as possible and heal him often. Try repositioning characters to take advantage of the clouds that pass by to get in some Dark attacks; otherwise you’ll be stuck using only Light spells. Upon defeating Tuba, you’ll receive a CRESCENT BLADE. Watch the scenes that follow, ending Chapter 2. CHAPTER 3: FANTAISIE-IMPROMPTU The party has been split up, with Allegretto and Viola now teamed up with the Andantino trio - Jazz, Falsetto and Claves. Check their stats and equipment to decide who fights during the next leg of the journey. Hmm... Adagio... nice name. ;-) ADAGIO SWAMP West Side At the T-junction, turn right and continue past the stairs. Fight an enemy to clear the way to a chest containing FISH INCENSE. Return to the stairs now, and use them to get over to a tree branch that is partially submerged in water. Climb it to retrieve an ANGEL TRUMPET from the chest at the end. Backtrack to the water and head east through the enemy-filled swamp until the path rejoins. Move forward to a split and go south. When you reach the lower path, turn right and look for a chest at the end with a SWALLOW SHOOTER. Backtrack north to the previous split and head east. East Side Head east along the path, past an enemy and some submerged stairs, until you reach a fish out of water. Note the creature’s location, as you will be trading with it later on. For now, use the stairs on the left to get into the water. When the path rejoins, you’ll be standing at a fork. Head southeast to reach a chest with a BIG PAPER FAN item then return to the fork and go northeast. Move forward to a Save Point and the exit. CANTABILE INN After a cutscene, you’ll take control of Allegretto in one of the Inn’s guestrooms. Exit to the lobby and enter the guestroom on the right. Talk to the traveler inside and help him catch his mouse using your handy Fruit Basket. The grateful man will give you a WINDER in exchange. Search the plant near his bed to receive a MEAT HOOK then exit the Inn. The man sitting on the bench outside warns that the next area you’ll be visiting is filled with poison. Oh joy. Search the sack on the side of the road below him to find 45 GOLD. Continue forward and use the Save Point near the dock. Go north and inspect the boat on the right to receive SCORE PIECE 3. Continue heading north into Woodblock Groves. WOODBLOCK GROVES South After defeating the toxic creature, walk up the slope on the left and cross the bridge. Follow the winding path down to a purple pond and speak to the fellow sitting there. Play a session with Hungry Drum using Score Piece 1 to receive a BRILLIANT BROOCH (Rank-S) then continue forward to a bridge. Hop down from the bridge onto the sandy path below and head south. Walk up and around to a large onion enemy. Fight it to uncover a chest containing a BACK SWORD. Hop down onto the lower path then head north to South Center.
South Center Pass under the bridges, looping south and eventually moving north. Before the path turns south again, look for a jump point on the right. Fight the enemy below then head east up the slope. Cross the bridge to reach a chest containing a FENCING SABER. After collecting the weapon, walk back down the slope and cross over the colorful mushrooms on the far left. Defeat an enemy at the end to free a chest containing LUCKLESS armor. Hop off the lower edge and head north. North Center Hike back up to the top of the circle and jump down into the green pit again. Go north to the T-junction and head west this time. On next screen, you’ll find a big onion hiding in an alcove to the south. Speak with the creature to trade your Winder for an EMPTY VASE. Now you have a decision to make: Either abandon the Trading Quest altogether, or return to Adagio Swamps to give the Empty Vase to that dry fish you met earlier. If you choose to detour, do it now. The fastest route back to the fish is as follows: Head east to the previous screen then go south to the bridge. Jump down to the Save Point. Continue heading south as you zigzag through the winding paths. When you reach the big onion blocking the path, veer west through the trees. Jump off the bridge then head north and circle around south to the next area. On your way back through, perform another session with Hungry Drum using Score Piece 4 to earn a POISON WHITECAP (Rank-B). Continue heading south to the bridge leading out of Woodblock Groves. ADAGIO SWAMP (REVISIT) - Optional Stop by the Cantabile Inn to rest before heading south. Once you’ve reached the swamp, go down to the Save Point and head west. Cross the shallow water and when the path rejoins, continue forward until you reach the lower path. Once there, head east to find the parched fish. After filling the Empty Vase with water to wet the fish down, the grateful fellow will drop a POWER RING on the ground for you. With that bit of business now taken care of, return to Woodblocks Groves. WOODBLOCK GROVES - Continued North Center North Once there, circle around to the bridge on top. Jump down into the green muck and head north. Cross the mushrooms to reach a chest containing a STAR COOKIE. From here, jump down onto the path and go north to another bridge. Hop down and fight the enemy on the north end. After defeating it, jump off the eastern edge and hike up to the peak for a chest containing FLORAL EXTRACT. Backtrack a few steps and hop down from the ivy to reach a chest containing an ANGEL TRUMPET. Now jump off the edge and head north towards the waterfall. Waterfall BOSS >> Trick or Treat, Red Caps x2 Strategy: The two Red Caps have the ability to revive each other (and the boss can revive them, too) so expect them to hang around until the end. Use the Red Caps to build up Echoes that you can then unleash on the boss. Trick or Treat’s most powerful attack is Mushroom Party, which causes a downpour of fungi that deals over 1800-damage to those caught in its radius. Also, Inevitable Punishment is a 3-hit strike that’ll kill weaker characters if left unblocked. Since most of the boss’s attacks cover a large area, keep people away from each other and use a hit-and-run technique. Park Viola at a distance so she’s always prepared to heal the party. The arena contains a good balance of light and dark areas so you’ll have plenty of attack options. After the battle, you’ll receive RECOVERY GLOVES and FLORAL EXTRACT. Strip Jazz and Claves of any important gear since they’re about to leave your party. Use the Save Point then continue forward to trigger a scene. Falsetto remains with the party to act as a tour guide once Jazz and Claves leave. When you regain control, follow the path around to a cave opening. Before entering Andante, continue east to Lake Reverb. LAKE REVERB Talk to the soldier (Lonely Pitch) near the entrance and choose to perform a session with him. Select Score Piece 1 or 3 to earn a SHADOW TAIL (Rank-B). Since you cannot go much further, return to the waterfall area and enter the cave.
ANDANTE Use the Save Point then move forward for a brief dialogue scene. When it ends, cross the bridge and explore the rooms on the other side. The second room is an Infirmary. Speak to the Doctor inside if the party requires healing. Cross the next bridge and enter the Storage Room. Inspect the shelves to receive SCORE PIECE 5 and perform a session with the little girl (Sullen Melody) sitting on the floor. Choose Score Piece 1 to receive a PEACH COOKIE (Rank-B). Exit the room and walk down the next two bridges.
Below, you’ll find an Item Shop that sells some nice gear. After shopping, enter the room next to the Item shop to witness a dialogue scene. When it ends, head left towards the 3rd room. Inspect the barrels at the end to find a note that says, “Search around the stone pillar.” The note doesn’t specify which pillar, but is referring to the stone formation near Andantino’s entrance. Hike back up there and cross the first bridge. Look for a gap behind the guard on the left. Inside, you’ll find another note and SCORE PIECE 6. Return to the shop area below and enter the third room on the left for a scene involving children that need special spring water to revive a plant. Viola volunteers the party’s help. Re-enter the house afterwards and search the bookcase for a FLARE HEAD (exclusively for Viola). Go down the walkway across from the Item shop to find the entrance to Lento Cemetery. If you inspect the barrels next to the cave opening, you’ll find a third note. To learn more, go up to the woman working at the bridge landing and hop across the rocks on the left. There, you’ll acquire “some guy’s address” and witness Retto’s homophobic response. Hm. When ready, enter the cave opening and follow the purple path into Lento Cemetery. LENTO CEMETERY Main Cemetery Road Blockheads’ Boneyard Main Cemetery Road Old Age Acres Main Cemetery Road Warrior’s Burial Ground Main Cemetery Road Gone Too Soon Graveyard Back Road / Entrance to the Springs Gone Too Soon Graveyard Main Cemetery Road / Back Road Gone Too Soon Graveyard / Back Road Main Cemetery Road / Gone Too Soon Graveyard Take the two flames at the Gone Too Soon entrance. At this point, you should have all 5 flames: 2 red, 2 blue and 1 green. If so, revisit Blockheads’ Boneyard on the lower east side. Lift the fog using a single red flame and enter. Blockheads’ Boneyard Main Cemetery Road / Simile Spring BOSS >> Death Crow, Light Antiques x2 Strategy: Similar to the previous boss, Death Crow can resurrect the two Light Antiques that accompany it, so factor that in when planning your attacks. Since the boss is floating in the air, characters working up close should aim for its feet. Apart from the moving spirits, there isn’t much light in the arena, so position Viola in the center (or near one of the Light Antiques) so that she can use Heal Arrow. Despite its size, the Death Crow is quick and often roams the arena looking for targets. Spread out if everyone keeps getting hit by the boss’s sweeping attacks. For defeating the Death Crow, you’ll receive a THUNDER STIR and possibly a Floral Extract. Watch the scenes that follow, including another biographical piece on Chopin that ends Chapter 3. CHAPTER 4: GRANDE VALSE BRILLIANTE Now in control of Polka, the team (Beat, Chopin and Salsa) reflects on how they arrived at Baroque Castle. Flashback time... BAROQUE SHIP Leave Salsa to her beauty rest and exit the guestroom. Save your game in the Western Hallway then go upstairs to the ship’s deck. There’s an Item Merchant standing near the guardrail. Talk to him if you want to buy/sell anything. Descend the other flight of stairs to reach the Eastern Hallway and inspect the barrel underneath the stairs to receive a BUBBLE STRAW. Enter the guestroom on the right and examine the blue bureau for SCORE PIECE 7. Return to the upper deck afterwards. On deck, you’ll see two lit doorways on the left. Enter the top one and inspect the liquor cart to get some HELL MUSTARD. Exit the Drawing Room and head east towards the lower stern to trigger a scene, during which pirates attack the ship. When you regain control, search the crates on the right to find a PIERCING SHELL (exclusively for Beat) and SCORE PIECE 8. After getting the items, head west and climb the stairs for another scene. PIRATE SHIP DOLCE Talk to the sailor on deck if you want to return to the Baroque Ship; otherwise, use the Save Point up ahead and climb down the hatch next to it. Basement Levels 1 & 2 Exit the cabin and continue up the hall until a scene takes over. When it ends, move forward and enter the last room on the left. After defeating the pirates inside, open a chest near the bed to receive some VERY ODD CHOCOLATE. Leave and enter the room on the right. Descend the stairs to reach the 2F Pantry. Barrels prevent you from exploring the other side of the room so use the lower door to get to the Level 2 hallway. Head north to the end of the hall, where you’ll find a chest containing FLORAL POWDER. From here, move south and enter the first door on the left. Look for a chest on the north end of the Cargo Room. It contains a GLOWING TAIL. Since the other side is blocked, exit to the hall. Head south and enter the last room on the right. Take the stairs down to Level 3. Basement Levels 3 & 4
Use the stairs inside to reach the 2F Pantry. Collect a MERCY BREATH from the chest in the center then drop down the hole on the south end of the room to return to Level 3. Fight enemies inside the room then exit to the hall. Head south and enter the last room on the right. Drop down the hole inside to reach a chest containing a HARMONIC STICK. Hop down and kill pirates then exit to the Level 4 hallway. Now enter the room on the left. Look for a chest between the beds containing a SAILOR’S UNIFORM. Exit to the hall and go north. Enter the next room on the right. After fighting pirates inside, look for a chest in between the beds containing SCORE PIECE 9. Leave and enter the room directly across the hall. Get FISH INCENSE from the chest on the right then climb the stairs on the left to reach the 3F Cargo Room. Use the stairs inside to reach 2F Cargo. Once there, jump into the hole on the north end of the Cargo Room to drop down two floors. Open a chest on the landing to receive the PIRATE’S KEY. Hop down into the room and use the Save Point. Exit to the Level 4 hallway. Ignore the door to the north for now and instead enter the room directly across the hall. After ridding the room of enemies, open the chest in between the beds to receive FLORAL POWDER. Return to the hallway and head south. Enter the next room on the left, kill the pirates inside, and collect a GODDESS BOUQUET from a chest near the bed. Now that you have all of the treasure, return to the hallway and use the Pirate’s Key to unlock the northern door. Back Hallway BOSS >> Captain Dolce, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant Strategy: The Lieutenants hit hard and repeatedly revive each other, so take them out as fast as you can. Salsa’s Shadow Silhouette will help bolster your party’s attacks and Frederic’s Mirage Blow will decrease theirs, so take advantage of both. The fight will be a lot more manageable with just Dolce to contend with. She uses a 5-hit physical combo as well as long-range attacks, and moves exceedingly fast. Your ability to block is the key to surviving. Since lights in the arena swing back and forth, you’ll have to continually reposition characters to use healing spells, which will eat up a lot of time on the action gauge. Consider using restorative items instead (or put a Brilliant Brooch on Polka so that she’s restricted to using Light spells). Once the two lackeys are gone, swarm Dolce so that she cannot hit anyone from behind. Unless your team is overly leveled, it’ll probably take a couple of attempts before winning this battle. After a well-deserved victory, you’ll receive a TORN UMBRELLA, SKULL AND BONES, and PIRATE’S PAPER 1 (which offers a clue on where she’ll turn up next). Don’t bother equipping the Skull and Bones armor since it causes Stop. Watch the scenes that follow, ending the flashback sequence. BAROQUE CASTLE Use the garden’s Save Point and inspect the ice sculpture to the left of the door to receive a GODDESS BOUQUET. Enter the castle to trigger another biographical tidbit describing Chopin’s life as well as reactions to the royal ball that apparently just took place. First Floor Talk to the woman in the hall (Impatient Pizzicato) to play a couple of sessions with her. Pick Score Piece 3 to earn an ANGEL TRUMPET (Rank-S) and Score Piece 2 or 9 to receive a PEACH COOKIE (Rank-B). Afterwards, enter the second guestroom and get SCORE PIECE 10 from the red Victrola on the table. Return to the Main Hall and go through the arch on the left to reach the West Hallway. Use the Save Point here and check out the other rooms if you like. When finished, return to the Main Hall and climb the stairs on the left.
Second Floor Upon reaching the eastern hall, ignore the blue door for a moment and enter the office on the far right. Search the grandfather clock inside to obtain SCORE PIECE 11 then leave. Now enter the room with a blue door to trigger a scene with Crescendo and his fiancé, Serenade. When it ends, leave the room and walk towards the stairs for a peculiar event... LAMENT - Mirror’s Depths After getting sucked into the mirror, the team fractures. With only Polka now, use the Save Point up ahead then set out across the glassy surface. Polka should be able to handle the balloon enemies here on her own if you remember to heal every so often. After fighting the first enemy, turn right for a chest containing a STAR COOKIE. Continue forward until you can turn right again. Collect FLORAL EXTRACT from the next chest. Move forward and you’ll find a third chest sitting on a pink square containing ELEGANT CLOTHES. Rid the enemy blocking the narrow path up ahead and enter the tall mirror at the end. Lament - First Eve: New Moon LAMENT - Mirror’s Flipside Use the Save Point then move forward across the stone blocks until a dialogue scene occurs. Afterwards, hop over the next block to arrive at a junction. Go east first to get a chest containing an ANGEL TRUMPET. Backtrack and head north now, hopping over gaps and killing foes that get in your way. At the next junction, go east to a chest containing a DEWDROP UMBRELLA. Return to the junction and head north until the camera perspective changes (distant low angle). Head west from here. At the next split, travel south. Follow the long path all the way over to a chest with FLORAL EXTRACT. Head west now, following another long path to the end where you’ll find a chest containing a HOPLON SHIELD for Crescendo. After getting the item, start heading back towards the “perspective change” area. Just before reaching it, you’ll find a split. Go north at this point. Look for a chest in the upper left corner that contains a CLUB CLOVER then head east, past the mirror, to the very end where you’ll find a chest with a STONE OF THE SPRING. Backtrack to the mirror and enter. Lament - Second Eve: Crescent Moon LAMENT - Mirror’s Maze The overhead perspective remains as you navigate through various triangles in this diamond-shaped maze. Note that there are a few treasures to grab and some enemies to fight before reaching the exit. The most direct route is as follows: From your starting position in the lowest triangle, go north. Upon entering the second triangle, the path closes behind you. This will be true from now on. Head northwest and fight an enemy inside the third triangle. From here, go north where you’ll finally have a choice of direction. Take the northwest opening into a triangle with an enemy. Fight it then go north into triangle #6. From here, head northeast and then southeast to another triangle with an enemy, as well as a choice of direction. Take the northeast opening into another triangle with an enemy and choice of direction. Use the southeast exit to reach a triangle with a chest. It contains a FLORAL EXTRACT. From here, head south (enemy) and then southwest (enemy), and finally south to a triangle with another chest. This one contains a STONE OF THE SPRING. To reach the last chest, go southwest and pass through all triangles until you reach one with a choice of direction. Once there, take the northwest exit and continue moving through triangles until you reach the next one offering a choice. Go northeast to the next triangle, which also has a directional choice. Head north and then northwest into another triangle with an enemy. Here you will have a choice again, but DO NOT enter the northern triangle if you want to get the last treasure. Instead, head southwest into a triangle with a chest. After collecting a GODDESS BOUQUET from it, follow the triangles around until you come to one offering a choice of direction. Go northeast then north. Follow triangles around one last time until you reach one with a choice. Head north to exit the maze. Pass through the mirror on the other side. Lament - Third Eve: Half Moon LAMENT - Mirror’s Edge The group arrives in an inverted world, which can be rather disorienting. Luckily there’s only one path (and no treasure to find), so just fight through enemies as you loop east towards a curved brown ramp that’ll put the party right-side up again. Use the Save Point up ahead before entering the mirror. Lament - Fourth Eve: Gibbous Moon LAMENT - Mirror’s Surface Move across the stone blocks and ascend the ramp. Fight through enemies until you reach a junction. Head north to a chest containing a ROCHIN then ascend the ramp on the left. Proceed until you reach the corner. Open a chest containing an ARES STAFF then head east to another junction. Go south to a chest containing a SAINT’S VESTMENT then ascend the ramp to the north. On top, descend the ramp on the left and fight enemies on the platform below. Make your way over to the eastern edge of the platform and head south. Fight past several enemies as you walk down to the very end, where you’ll find a chest holding POLKA’S NEW COSTUME. A new menu tab is added, allowing you to change the look of key characters. Change Polka’s costume now if you like; otherwise hike back up to the top platform. Once there, ascend the ramp and head west. Proceed until you reach a hard-to-see chest containing a CLUB CLOVER. Head east from here, going up a few ramps to the final chest containing a SNOWPUFF COOKIE. Continue forward to the Save Point. Crescendo and Serenade will be leaving the party after the upcoming boss fight, so remove any accessories you wish to retain. Save your game before entering the mirror. Lament - Fifth Eve: New Moon BOSS >> Spirit Svetovit Strategy: The boss doesn’t have a lot of HP, but can perform a couple of devastating attacks that could easily kill someone, so pay attention to the party’s health. Try using a knockback (such as Frederic’s Coup de Grace or Salsa’s Solar Flare) on the boss to cause him to forfeit one of his turns. Luckily, the area is mostly lit so situate Polka and/or Frederic in a spot where they can cast restorative spells on whoever is working up close. Serenade’s dark healing spells won’t be of much use here, so restrict her to long-range attacks if she’s in your party. The boss’s Man Splitter is a long-range attack that does around 2500-damage, and Man Fillet is an area attack that causes around 5000-damage to anyone caught in its radius. You can guard against his melee attacks fairly easily, but the long-range stuff doesn’t really allow for that. Spread everyone out to prevent double disaster, but not so far apart that you cannot heal people. After the battle, you’ll receive a CHAKRAM and the party re-appears in Baroque Castle’s hallway. Watch the scenes that follow, including another biographical piece on Chopin called “Little Dog Valse” - a fitting ode to the mutt that had you stuck in a mirror. Crescendo and Serenade leave the party here, so any equipment you provided goes with them. (Note that you can return to Lament any time you wish by examining the mirror in Crescendo’s room.) BAROQUE CITY Entrance To the right of the fountain, you’ll meet a kid named Lonesome Loco who will offer to play a session with you. None of the Score Pieces currently in your possession will suit him, so decline for now. Head east from Loco and inspect the pile of garbage in the corner to acquire a MOUSE METRONOME. After nabbing the item, go south to Main Street.
Main Street Pay 200G to rest there if you like. Afterwards, climb the left staircase and enter the second guestroom in the middle. Speak with Grandma to hear her cryptic poem. Leave the room and enter one on the west end of 2F. Check the bureau on the left to find SCORE PIECE 12 in a tea set. Exit the hotel afterwards.
Visit the Item shop across from the hotel to peruse the new inventory and sell photos. Buy what you can afford then continue south to the Save Point. Search the snowy bench on the left to acquire a SNOWPUFF COOKIE then enter the Bar across the street. There’s nothing to find in the tavern right now, other than a back door leading down to the wine cellar, so leave and continue traveling south. Enter the residence on the right. Search the barrels inside to receive a FEATHERED HAT and pet the puppies (just because). Back outside, continue south towards the city’s entrance. Once there, examine the snowman on the left to get SCORE PIECE 13. Since you cannot leave the city just yet, head back up to the castle steps. Turn left at the fountain and enter the green doorway at the end. SHARP MOUNTAINS Base Backtrack down the slope to the first fork and head west. Either ignore or fight the enemy on the left. The plaque it’s guarding offers nothing at this time. Take the eastern path up some slippery icy into the next area. Second Point At the next split, climb the slippery slope on the left to reach a chest containing a BIRD CLOAK. Slide back down the ice and continue up the western trail, fighting any creatures that impede your progress. Ignore the steps on the right for a moment and fight the enemy further ahead. Open the chest it was blocking to receive a LION’S MANE. Return to the steps and head east to the Sixth Point. Sixth Point Eighth Point / Mountain Lodge Summit WAH LAVA CAVE Use the Save Point then move forward to a chest containing a SNOWPUFF COOKIE. Proceed for a brief scene warning about magma then carry on until you reach North Side 1. North Sections Move forward to a 3-way split. Take the lowest road down to an enemy guarding a chest that contains a MOUSE METRONOME. Backtrack to the top of the split and follow the high road to the end. Jump off the edge to reach a chest containing FLORAL EXTRACT then hop down onto the main path. Continue fighting enemies and hopping over gaps until you get to a Save Point. Below it, there’s another split. Take the lower route over to a chest guarded by an enemy. Defeat it to obtain a GODDESS BOUQUET then return to the split and head west. After defeating another enemy, jump off the southern edge (where the enemy was). Jump down twice more to reach a chest containing a RESONATING STICK. Hop onto the lower path then go north up the slope. Look for a pair of jump points on the left. Use the upper one to jump down onto a ledge. Jump down twice more to reach a chest containing a HARD JACKET. Hop down onto the road where you’ll see another fork. Both routes lead to Middle 1. Start by going south. Middle Sections At the first fork, go right. At the next one, go left and follow the path back up to the double jump point. Use the upper one again and hop down onto the road. Now head west to reach another part of Middle 1. Cross a gap to the south. Fight enemies blocking your way as you continue down to Middle 2. Upon reaching Middle 2, you’ll find a Save Point near an intersection. Move south, stepping onto a carved disk that you can jump off. Hop down and keep going until you reach a disk flanked by two others, giving you an option of which way to jump - left or right. Hop onto the left disk and jump down two more. When you land on the plain rock without carvings, stop. Here, you have another choice: Move to the right and jump onto another plain rock. Continue down until you reach another part of Middle 3. Ignore the carved disks on the left and head south down the path on the right. At the T-section, go right (east) and hop over some gaps to reach a chest containing SCORE PIECE 16. Return to the T-section and go north, back to the carved disks on the left. Hop down the disks until you reach the bottom. Continue forward to a split. The northern path takes you back up to the previous Save Point. Follow it if you want the EXP, as several enemies patrol that route; otherwise head south to a new Save Point. South Sections There are no enemies in the cave so just pass through to the South Entrance. Hop down a few ledges to find 4 treasure chests sitting on the ground below. Open them to receive a GODDESS BOUQUET, SNOWPUFF COOKIE, DIAMOND CLOVER and CELESTIAL HOURGLASS. After gathering the goodies, hop down a few more ledges. At the bottom, you’ll find a Save Point and a T-section. Heading west leads to an inevitable boss. Going east leads to a rematch with Dolce and her pirate gang. Skip the next paragraphs if you’d rather avoid the conflict. South Side 1 - Alternate Route OPTIONAL BOSS >> Captain Dolce, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant Strategy: Your second encounter with Dolce & Co. will be identical to the first (they all use the same attacks), but naturally, the trio deals far more damage now. Again, take out the two Lieutenants first so they don’t continually resurrect each other. Just plant two people on them until they are gone and you can turn everyone’s attention to Dolce. If Polka is in your party, have her stay in the light and use Earth Heal or Orange Glow. If she’s absent, have Frederic heal in between attacking. It’s a tough battle but, hey, if you did it once you can surely do it again, right? After Dolce sulks off, you’ll receive a POCKET WATCH and PIRATE’S PAPER 2. Pirate’s Paper 1 refers to this spot; in receiving Paper 2, no doubt you’ll be meeting up with Dolce again... For now, enjoy your victory and head back to the Save Point in South Entrance - either by walking through the jumping fish again or following this path back up to the western cave entrance. South Entrance AGOGO VILLAGE After emerging from the lava cave, Salsa is reunited with her sister, March, but there’s no time for catch-ups... BOSS >> Fugue Strategy: This time, you actually stand a chance against Fugue. He’s still super fast but only uses three special moves: J’accuse is a line attack that causes about 2600-damage to anyone caught in its path. Blood Scent is a multi-hit attack, and Dark Presence is a ranged attack that inflicts Stop for 4 turns. Fugue can easily kill characters when he clusters his attacks, so be prepared to toss a few Angel Trumpets to revive fallen comrades. Salsa and Frederic should surround Fugue and attack mercilessly, while Beat or Polka work at a distance. Any of your Special Attacks should do, because there’s an even split of light and dark areas in the arena. * PARTY LEVEL 4 * After the battle, you’ll receive a BRISINGAMEN and a TORQUATUS. Additionally, your party level increases. At Level 4, Tactical Time is reduced to 1-second and Item Slots are increased to 30. Two new battle features are added: Counterattack and Harmony Chains. To execute a Counterattack, press the X button when you see the screen prompt - it’ll be hard to master if you’re used to keeping your finger on the Circle button. Harmony Chains take effect after you’ve built up 24 Echoes or more, allowing you to pull off two special attacks in a row if you press the Triangle button at the right time. Watch the scenes that follow, ending Chapter 4. CHAPTER 5: NOCTURNE RITARDANDO After parting ways with other members of the team, Allegretto and Beat decide to show Frederic the town. Starting inside the Secret Hideout, use the Save Point then climb up to the streets to see what’s changed. Talk to the kid near the fountain (Worrywart Horn) if you want to perform a couple of sessions. Select Score Piece 3 to get a CHERRY EZI (Rank-A) then choose Score Piece 1 to receive a SNOWPUFF COOKIE (Rank-B). Check out the new goods and restock supplies at the Item shop; buy a few Angel Trumpets and Diamond Clovers if you’re running low. Afterwards, enter the Bakery on the left. Now that the owner is gone, raid the back for SCORE PIECE 17 and left shelves for SCORE PIECE 18. Approach the Church for a scene, during which Allegretto leaves. Viola, Salsa, and March arrive to take his place. Since March is new to the party, spend some time checking her stats and upgrading her gear. You’ll take control of Allegretto briefly, on his solo journey to fetch Polka. Walk down to the beach for a scene where he discovers a peculiar-looking rock. When the scene ends, you’ll be back with the party at the church. Now controlling Beat, exit the church and head back towards the Secret Hideout where you’ll be stopped by one of the sewer kids, Sym. The party automatically arrives in the sewers to observe a child that is suffering some illness. Your goal is to find medicine that will help the child. When you regain control, open the chest that was unavailable previously (on the right) to obtain BEAT’S NEW COSTUME. Leave the sewers on foot, stopping occasionally to fight the poor mice that now die in one hit. Back in town, talk to the clerk in the Pharmacy near the flower stand to learn that she sold her last cold medicine to a woman up the block. Enter the house in the upper left corner of town and speak with the lady inside. If you still have the Power Ring in your possession, she’ll ask to trade it. Unless you’re dead set on keeping it, hand it over to get the COLD MEDICINE. If you decide to keep the ring and let the little sick kid die (no guilt trip), well, then you’re just a selfish turd. Assuming you did the noble thing, bring the Cold Medicine back to the sick child in the sewers. For your good deed, Sym gives you a SPELL BOOK ring. In truth, you’ll find another Power Ring shortly and another Spell Book ring later on, so it doesn’t really matter what you do.
There’s one last thing Beat can accomplish before heading off to the church’s catacombs: Walk down to the beach and enter the cave at the end. Move forward and at the fork, turn left. Speak to the man standing there. During an intriguing dialog scene, you’ll learn that he’s a Former Researcher who worked on the development of mineral powder with a man named Chord. This conversation leads to another later on.
When ready, go back up to the church and speak to the priest near the altar. After he blesses (heals) your party, enter the door behind him. MANDOLIN CHURCH CATACOMBS South Section East Section South Section North Section Grotto: South Section Remember Pirate’s Paper 2? If you fought Dolce in the Wah Lava Cave, you’ll recall getting a piece of paper that mentioned something about “the treasure behind six pillars”. Well, you just found the treasure and there are 6 pillars in this room that you need to examine. Behind each pillar you’ll find a ? mark and be given a message. You must read all 6 messages in order for Dolce to show up again later in the game. Contrary to other walkthroughs I’ve seen, you do not need to go back to the church in order to meet up with Dolce later on. However, if you want to know what the pillar message, “Please banish the blue light” is referring to, complete the optional section below: Optional - Mandolin Church (revisit) Grotto: South Section - cont’d Grotto: Middle Section Go back across the elevated tracks to the main area and head north. After fighting a few more enemies, you’ll reach a wide swathe of darkness. Pass through to get to the grotto’s north section. Grotto: North Section BOSS >> Root Lurker Strategy: Build up Echoes and use Harmony Chains to beat the snot out of this boss. The Root Lurker will charge at your party, seeming to pick on whoever struck him last. The moves to watch out for are Bo Peep, which deals around 2000-damage and inflicts Passive (while in this state, you cannot counterattack) and an area attack called Roar that deals around 3000-damage to each person caught in the radius. Have Viola use Heal Arrow while others put those Diamond Clovers to use. Take advantage of the Root Lurker’s shadow, since the only other shade is on the outer section of the arena. Salsa usually does best using Deadly Orbit and March’s Super Nova will cause some serious pain. For defeating the Root Lurker, you’ll receive a HEREBRA. Watch the scenes that follow, ending up back in Tenuto Village. TENUTO VILLAGE Taking control of Allegretto, use the Save Point then approach Polka’s mother (Solfege), who is standing by the water near their house. During the conversation, you’ll learn that Polka is in the flower field. Walk up there for another scene. A Chopin piece (“Nocturne”) follows and then more scenes aboard the Baroque Ship where Jazz finally rejoins the group. BAROQUE CITY When you gain control of the party, go along with Jazz’s suggestion to tour the city. Walk downstairs and revisit Lonesome Loco on the right. Now that you have new music, play a session with him using Score Piece 15 to earn a SKY BLUE BROOCH (Rank-S). If you spoke to the Former Researcher in Ritardando’s Cave earlier, look for an old woman with a cane to the right of Loco. After a little coaxing, she’ll identify herself as the Former Servant and offers some interesting information about Chord - namely, that he was locked up in Fort Fermata (remember the locked room?) and seems to be fond of a particular Heart Pendant...
Head down Main Street and check out the Item Shop’s new wares. When you’re finished shopping, continue south past the Save Point to trigger a dialogue scene involving a priest. He tells the party to visit Aria Temple, which is to the south. Although there are more things you can accomplish in Baroque before leaving, take a quick trip into Celestra Forest now to avoid a lot of backtracking later. Leave the city from the southern gate. CELESTRA FOREST (pre-visit): Start crossing the bridge and a Merchant informs you that you’ll need a key to enter Aria Temple. He tells you to get one from the Magic Researcher in the castle. Return to Baroque. Walk back to the castle or fight an optional boss on the way there. If you read all six pillar messages in the Mandolin Catacombs, Dolce will be in Baroque City now. Feel free to delay the confrontation or avoid it altogether. For those willing and able, enter the bar across from the Item Shop. Go through the back door (on the right) to get to the wine cellar. Speak to the drunken employee below and when asked to comment on Dolce, choose: “Lately, her skin is starting to sag.” The unflattering remark triggers Dolce’s third appearance. OPTIONAL BOSS >> Captain Dolce, First Lieutenant, Second Lieutenant Strategy: You should know what you’re doing by now. The trio has more HP but employ the same attacks. With a large choice of party members, this battle should be the easiest of the three. Jazz and Allegretto can rip her to shreds with Heat Blade and Sky Divider while Viola spams Heal Arrow. Take advantage of Harmony Chains and the battle will end shortly. If you have any trouble beating her, spend time leveling characters in Celestra Forest before trying again. Upon winning, you earn a WEREWOLF CHOKER. The pirates also leave behind a chest that contains a PEACE EARRING. Also, check the barrel the employee was sitting on to receive SCORE PIECE 20. Note that you cannot obtain this Score Piece unless you fight Dolce.
BAROQUE CASTLE From the Main Hall, climb the stairs on the left. Enter the second guestroom and speak with the boy (Shallow Sweet) inside. Perform a couple of sessions with him using Score Piece 12 to receive EZI PAJAMAS (Rank-A) and Score Piece 3 to get a POISON WHITECAP (Rank-B). Leave and enter the Laboratory around the corner. Look for a green flask on the floor near the left bookcase. It contains a MAGATAMA. After getting the accessory, speak with the Magic Researcher on the right. If you kept the Spell Book ring you received during the Ritardando Sewers quest, the researcher will take it in exchange for the ARIA TEMPLE KEY. If you did not complete the quest (or sold the ring), the researcher will not hand over the key. You can find another Spell Book in Celestra Forest and return here; but exchanging it now will save a lot of time. Either way, exit the castle and head south when you’re ready to proceed. CELESTRA FOREST Walk across the bridge and speak with the Merchant. If you have the Aria Temple Key, he will give you SCORE PIECE 21. If you do not have the key, visit him later to acquire the music. Continue forward into the western forest. West Side Middle East Side ARIA TEMPLE Use the Save Point then approach the front door to trigger a conversation. It appears someone unlocked the temple before your team arrived. So much for needing a key...live and learn. Enter the temple when ready. Gallery of Earth Gallery of Air Ignore the center enemy and go left down the hallway. Fight the first enemy you see and the chest it was guarding will vanish, reappearing in a new location. Kill the second enemy in the hall then move forward to the northwest corner, where the chest is waiting. Fight the creature in this room and open the chest to receive LION ARMOR. Head east from here and you’ll pass a chest blocked by ice. When you reach the northeast corner, kill the enemy hiding behind the staircase and the chest will move from the ice to a new location. Head west now, walking back around to the 3-way split at the entrance. Continue east past the center foe and take the first left into a new hallway, where you’ll spot another chest blocked by ice. Defeat the enemy standing in front of it. The chest remains in ice for now, so continue up the hallway to the chest that was transported here earlier. After collecting a RIB CRUSHER from it, backtrack south, past the blocked chest, and into the room at the southeast end. Defeat both enemies here and the ice chest will warp to the room you’re in. Open it to receive an ORACLE CANE. Before dealing with the creature at the entrance, return to the room with the staircase (northeast corner) and go up to the Corridor level. Corridor Gallery of Air - cont’d Gallery of Heaven At the intersection, head southeast (right) down the hallway. Veer left at the junction and kill both enemies in the southwest hall, causing a chest to move elsewhere. Head east, into the room across the hall, to fetch it. After collecting a FLINTLOCK PICK, kill the two groups of mice in the room. Now head north up the hall, past the rope room, and south into a room with 3 mice. Kill all of them and a chest appears. Open it to get an IMPERIAL BOW. From here, head east down the hall into the room with stairs. Ascend to the Corridor level. Corridor Gallery of Light BOSS >> Rondo Strategy: Rondo uses several multi-hit attacks; some that cause knockbacks. Guarding at the right time will help loads. The boss is wicked fast, but luckily your guest party member is pretty swift on her feet, too. Take advantage of Falsetto’s up-close-and-personal style by pummeling Rondo with Snow Claw, while others (ideally Viola) heal at a distance. There’s plenty of light in the arena so finding a safe spot should not be an issue. Eventually, have all three characters surround her and the boss will be toast in no time. After the battle, you’ll receive a HEART PENDANT. (If you recall, someone you met earlier mentioned this item...) Watch the scenes that follow, ending Chapter 5. CHAPTER 6: TRISTESSE BAROQUE CITY / CASTLE Scenes continue back in Baroque, with Jazz reminding everyone that they need to check in on Prince Crescendo. When you regain control, visit the Item Shop, which has restocked excellent new gear. In particular, buy stuff for Falsetto who has joined the party permanently. After shopping, enter the hotel across the street. Go upstairs to Grandma’s room (second door, middle). The old woman is napping but her granddaughter (Granny’s Girl Quena) is more than happy to perform a few sessions with you. Select Score Piece 10 to earn an OBSIDIAN MIRROR (Rank-S), Score Piece 7 to get an EZI PADDLE (Rank-A), and Score Piece 16 to obtain FISH INCENSE (Rank-B). Quite a haul! Leave the hotel and start heading back up to the castle. When you reach the fountain, a scene occurs. The party is automatically taken to the castle and receives a WARP ROOM KEY. Crescendo claims the key will transport you anywhere previously visited, but that is unfortunately not the case during your first playthrough. With Polka out of commission for a while, exit the castle. Head west, past the guy exercising, to find the Warp Room building. Use your key to unlock it. Save your game inside then speak to the Guide who tells you the pads have been acting strangely lately (no doubt a reference to the fact that only one destination is possible right now). When ready, step on the blue pad and choose to warp to Agogo Village. AGOGO VILLAGE / FOREST Village Forest - North / Middle North BOSS >> Fugue Strategy: Apart from Fugue being stronger, it’ll be the same as your last meeting, except you have more party options now. After the battle, you receive a DEATH’S HEAD. Watch the scenes that follow, with the team ending up back in Baroque Castle. BAROQUE CASTLE Polka rejoins the party and Jazz suggests speaking with the prince. When you regain control, exit the guestroom and enter the blue door on the right to see that Crescendo is not there. Go to Serenade’s room next (blue door, left hallway) to see that she’s missing, too. Exit her room to trigger three scenes (including another Chopin biographical sequence). When you take control, speak with the Official near the door to learn where you’re going next: To Coda Ruins. Before returning to the Warp Room, go downstairs and enter the Audience Chamber. Take the northeast door out to the Side Garden. Once there, look for a man (Conceited Choir) on the southeast end and choose to perform three sessions with him. Select Score Pieces 11, 18 and 17 to earn a CRIMSON BROOCH (Rank-S), EZI HANDKERCHIEF (Rank-A), and SNOWPUFF COOKIE (Rank-B) respectively. When ready, leave the castle and enter the Warp Room to the left. Speak with the Guide then step on the red pad. Choose “To Coda Ruins” as your destination.
TO CODA RUINS Betrayal Island Enemies inhabit this island (and all others from now on); sometimes they are hard to see, given how dark everything is, so pay attention to your surroundings as you explore. From the red tile you arrived on, walk down the slope on the right and continue to the northeast edge, where you’ll find another red tile. Step on it to get to the top of the building. Fight enemies as you move through to another red tile on top. Read the inscription on a pillar next to it: The first king asked, “Can you read what is in my heart?” The bronze bird replied, “Betrayal”. Step on the tile to warp to the next island. False Pride Island Step on the warp tile to transport to the building near the Save Point. Moving forward, you’ll find two green warp tiles: left and right. Step on the furthest one (right) to reach a tiny island with a chest. Retrieve a MATCHLOCK AXE then warp back to the building. Read a pillar near the left tile (“2nd king...false pride”) then step on it to get to the next island. Conceit Island There’s a blue tile close to where you land. Step on it to reach the narrow island across from this one. Move through enemies to the blue warp at the end. Read the pillar inscription (3rd king...conceit) then step on it. Resentment Island After warping to the ground below, backtrack west and step on the tile you passed earlier to warp to the building next to it. Fight through enemies to get to the yellow tile in the top left corner (the tile on the right is unreachable right now). Warp to the next island. Jealousy Island You’ll be transported back to the top of the building on Resentment Island that you couldn’t reach earlier. Kill the enemy blocking a chest at the end to receive ALLEGRETTO’S NEW COSTUME. After getting it, warp back to Jealousy Island. Head west and step on the tile to return to the top of the building. Once there, use the green tile on the other end of the building to warp to the next island. Suspicion Island Distress Island Sincerity Island CELLO TREE / COWBELL HEIGHTS Having emerged from the dark isles, move forward through the lush landscape until a scene takes over. When you take control of Allegretto, examine the fortuneteller’s hut to get a SAINT’S MIRROR. Pass through the circular archway and inspect the tree root on the right to receive SCORE PIECE 22. Use the Save Point to the left of the hut then follow the path next to it into Cowbell Heights. Go straight through to Mt. Rock. MT. ROCK After using another Save Point, approach the man near the entrance and you’ll discover he’s a merchant. His inventory is quite good. Rest and buy what you can afford before entering the base of the mountain. Base / Main Area Mineshafts - Secondary / Tertiary Pass through the Secondary Mineshaft and Tertiary Area. When you reach the Tertiary Mineshaft (confused yet??), look for a guy named Aloof Fiddle that you can perform sessions with. Choose Score Piece 11 to receive SUNLIGHT GUARDS (Rank-A) then play Score Piece 12 to get FLORAL POWDER (Rank-B). There’s a chest just beyond that cannot reach from here. Backtrack to the split in Secondary Area and head north into the canyon. Canyon When you reach the Tertiary Mineshaft, go to the end and open the chest you couldn’t reach earlier. It contains a SUNBRINGER. Head west now, pushing forward through enemies and strong gusts, until you reach the next area. Near the Summit / Summit BOSS >> Waltz, Calamity Wilhm Strategy: Eliminate the dragon first, since you’ll need all 3 characters working together to take out Waltz. If you use Harmony Chains, the dragon should be toast in two or three turns. The dragon packs a punch but is very slow, so you could whittle down its HP using ranged attacks and wait for the poor thing to come lumbering after you. The trick, of course, is that Waltz is not slow - he’s a lethal bastard. The little Count can string up to six attacks in a row, either melee or ranged, so it’ll be a chore keeping everyone alive while you’re working on his pet dragon. As suspected, he doesn’t play fair either. Like Dolce, he’ll hit characters from behind multiple times, making it all the more crucial to successfully block his frontal attacks. Have Viola parked at a distance using nothing but ranged attacks and healing. Have her toss Angel Trumpets as soon as anyone dies so that she can still get in one good Heal Arrow before her turn ends. Jazz and Allegretto are probably your two most powerful party members, so they should get in Waltz’s face and show no mercy. Harmony Chains will save the day. Don’t get discouraged if your party gets KO’d a couple of times before finally winning this battle. * PARTY LEVEL 5 * Upon sweet victory, you’ll receive a VANQUISHER, JOKULSNAUT, and DEMONIC MASK. Additionally, your Party Level has increased. At Level 5, Tactical Time is zero (the Action Gauge begins depleting immediately). Keep a close eye on the “next” arrow to know whose turn is coming up so that you can plan ahead. If you use Counterattacks, you can now use Special Attacks as counters. Movement speed in increased by 50% (which is very helpful), Harmony Chains are increased to 3 (if you are near an ally), and Item Slots are increased to 40. Watch the scene that follows, completing Chapter 6. CHAPTER 7: HEROIC Scenes continue after Polka’s “True Blood” moment. Crescendo and Serenade join for the remainder of the game, so upgrade their gear if you plan on using them. When you take control, jump into the purple vortex. ELEGY OF THE MOON East On the far right, there’s a piano and you can listen to Chopin’s famous “Funeral March” sonata there if you wish. Check the pot near the piano to receive a DARK TAIL. Collect a SHINING TAIL from the barrel to the left of the ramp then go up to the next area. Continue forward to the West End. West
Talk to other bubbles as you head east to learn that the Elder can be found in Noise Dunes. Follow the road as it turns. Inspect the red EZI doll sitting on the pillow in the corner to obtain a RAINBOW EZI then enter the Dunes. NOISE DUNES OF FANTASY Fight enemies as you move forward towards the barrier to the north. Open a chest to the right of the barrier to get a SPADE CLOVER. You’ll find the Elder, a lone blue bubble, at the end of the center path. Speak with him to learn that you must pull a switch at the top of Xylophone Tower to deactivate the barrier. After getting his permission to enter the tower, backtrack to the door near the Save Point in Elegy of the Moon. Speak with the blue bubble at the door and he will let you pass. XYLOPHONE TOWER OF THE SHINING KEYS First Floor The first sequence consists of 4 notes: B-sharp > G < F > G Once you’ve completed the test, a staircase appears. Battle a few enemies as you ascend the musical spiral. First Floor - Landing Second Floor B-sharp > G < F > G < F < E-sharp < B-sharp > G < C > C When played correctly, another spiral staircase appears. Fight enemies on your way to the top. Second Floor - Landing Third Floor B-sharp > G < F > G < F < E-sharp < B-sharp > G < C > C < G > B-sharp < A-sharp Once you successfully complete the third trial, go up the newly formed staircase. Third Floor - Landing Top Floor BOSS >> Ogre King, Wicked Shrub Strategy: Both enemies are equally strong and if you try ganging up on one, the other will pounce on you from behind. On the other hand, Wicked Shrub can resurrect the Ogre King (and poison you) so of the two, he’s the one you want to take out first. One strategy is to put one person on the Ogre King and one person on Wicked Shrub while the third member of your party heals and performs swing duty. As usual, successful Harmony Chains, well-timed blocks, and attention to healing will win the day. For defeating the duo, you’ll receive THIASSI’S BONE, EYE OF HORUS, and a TYRANT’S CROWN. After Allegretto unlocks the seal, the party will automatically be back at the Elegy Save Point. Restock items if you need to; otherwise enter the Noise Dunes.
NOISE DUNES OF FANTASY Speak to the Elder to receive a clue on what to expect in the next area. Now that the barrier is gone, go through the opening. Noise Dunes If you continue heading east, you’ll notice that the landscape doesn’t change from screen to screen - a loop, in other words. This is true were you to travel west, by the way. The trick here is to continue heading in one direction (either east or west) until the landscape changes. Passing straight through four times will get you to the new location. Oasis
Noise Dunes / Tower Entrance When you reach the front door, examine the large stone statue on the left and you’ll see that it speaks. Ichiro will tell you that Goro is missing. Talk to one of the statues on the right (Rokuro) then head back to the stone face you saw upon entering this area. It’s in the middle of the sand. The rock (Desolate Saburo) will perform a session with you! Select Score Piece 10 to receive a SHADOW HELM (Rank-A) and then speak to the rock again. It now reveals itself as Desolate Goro. Play another session with Goro using Score Piece 13 to get a CHAPEL EZI (Rank-B). Return to the tower entrance afterwards. You can speak with all of the statues now if you like; otherwise go through the door to begin the final dungeon. DOUBLE REED TOWER OF SAND First Floor Walk around the perimeter until you reach the western edge. Once there, you’ll see two shiny pink ramps: one curving up and one curving down. The southern one leads to the Base level, which you’ll be visiting later. For now, take the ramp leading north up to 2F. WEST TOWER: Floors 2-7 On the 3F landing, there’s another pink ramp and choice of direction. Start by heading north, around to the top edge, where you’ll find a Save Point. After using it, continue east, following the path around to a solo pink ramp. Use it get up to 4F. On top, head south and kill the garlic enemy near a chest. Open it to receive a WHITE STAR then backtrack to the two pink ramps. Use the upper one (north-facing) to reach 5F. When you reach 5F, go left and follow the curved path down to the next pink ramp (you’ll see an unreachable chest on the other side of the gap). Ascend the pink ramp to get to 6F. On top, head right. Fight through enemies to reach two pink ramps on the end of this short path. The upper pink leads to a Save Point and a Boss (one of two bosses you’ll face in the West Tower). Ignore it for now and take the lower pink back down to 5F. Fight an enemy on the bottom so that you can reach the chest you saw earlier. It contains a STORM SHROUD. After equipping it, go back up to 6F via the pink ramp. Back on the 6F landing, take the other pink ramp (north) up to 7F. Use the Save Point on top (heal, etc.) before going south to face your first tower boss. BOSS >> Hidden One Strategy: The boss uses a few multi-hit attacks that deal around 1800-damage if left unblocked. Violet Death is the most annoying since it’s fast and Hidden One can use it twice during one turn, hitting all three characters if they’re cluttered together. Those that are working up close should aim for the boss’s legs. Characters equipped with accessories that restore HP at the start of each turn will have an easy time of it. For defeating the Hidden One, you’ll earn TYR’S RIGHT ARM. Watch the scene that follows. When it ends, return to the Save Point. To reach the second boss in this tower, you need to do some backtracking. Save your game then take the pink ramp down to 6F. Once there, head west and take the pink path at the end back down to 5F. On 5F, follow the curved path around to the northwest end and go down the pink ramp there. Back on the 4F landing, go straight down to 3F using the adjacent pink ramp. When you reach 3F, head north along the curved path, past the Save Point, and around to the west edge of the ring where you’ll find two pink ramps. Use the top one to get up to 4F. On 4F, head south to the pink ramp at the end and ascend to 5F. At the landing, take the adjacent pink ramp straight up to 6F. On 6F, head north to the next set of pink ramps. The ramp on the left leads to a Save Point and the tower’s second boss. Before using it, descend the pink ramp on the right to reach 5F. Once there, collect a SPADE CLOVER from the final chest in West Tower. Use the pink ramp on the left to get back up to 6F. On the 6F landing, use the adjacent pink ramp to reach 7F. Save your game before moving north. BOSS >> Herculean Boar Strategy: The Herculean Boar uses attacks that can poison or knock down characters. Breakthrough is an annoying move, where the boss charges at someone from afar, dealing around 4700-damage. Its Rumble attack creates a circular shockwave, so pay attention to the health of those working up close. Have your two strongest party members whittle down its HP while a healer works from afar. For defeating the boss, you receive LECH ARMOR. Watch another scene involving Jazz and Falsetto, then start hoofing it back down to the First Floor. The most direct route is as follows: Take the pink ramp down to 6F and go east. Use the pink ramp at the end to get to 5F. On 5F, go straight down the ramp to 4F. On 4F, head northwest and use the pink ramp at the end to reach 3F. On the landing, go straight down to 2F using the adjacent ramp. Back on 2F, go north and take the next ramp down to the First Floor. First Floor EAST TOWER: Floors 2-7 On top, ignore the adjacent ramp and go north. After fighting a dragon enemy, you’ll find a Save Point that you can use. Continue heading west from the Save Point until you reach the solo pink ramp at the end. Go up to 4F. On 4F, follow the short curved path east. Fight a garlic enemy to access a chest containing a DAYBREAK CLOAK. Return to the pink ramps and use the top one to get up to 5F. At the 5F landing, you’ll find more garlic enemies. Fight them if you like; otherwise, ascend the adjacent pink ramp to reach 6F. Once there, travel northeast past a couple of dragon enemies to a set of pink ramps. The ramp on the right leads to a Save Point and boss. Before using it, descend the ramp on the left to collect a chest on 5F. It contains a LECH BLADE. Return to 6F afterwards and use the pink ramp on the right to reach 7F. On the 7F landing, save your game before heading south to face a new boss. BOSS >> White Jewel Strategy: Like the Herculean Boar, this boss has high HP and low DEF. Just crowd around it and use your most powerful moves. The boss uses ice-based attacks that can freeze (Slow) those hit. Knockdown can hit one character multiple times and, like the name implies, has a high chance of knockdown. Thankfully, most of White Jewel’s attacks are fairly slow and easy to block or counter. As always, link together some Harmony Chains to get rid of this boss quickly. Upon defeating White Jewel, you receive an ALVIS HOOP. Watch a scene involving the Agogo Sisters afterwards. When it ends, return to the Save Point. To reach the second boss in this tower, you’ll need to do some backtracking again. Start by taking the pink ramp back down to 6F. Once there, head west past the dragon enemies to the pink ramp at the end. Descend to 5F. Once there, take the connected pink path straight down to 4F, and straight down the next one to 3F. Once you reach 3F, head north towards the Save Point. Use it if you wish then continue heading east around the ring to the next set of pink ramps. Use the upper one to reach 4F. On 4F, head south to the end. Fight a garlic enemy there then take the lone pink ramp up to 5F. On top, head south to the next pink ramp. Go up to 6F and head west. Fight past enemies as you make your way to the pink ramps at the end. The upper one leads to a Save Point and a boss. Before using it, go down the other pink ramp to 5F. Kill the dragon guarding a chest on the right to receive a NODUS then return to 6F via the pink ramp. Back at the 6F landing, ascend the northern ramp to reach 7F. Save your game before engaging the boss to the north. BOSS >> Unrest, Fire Antique x2 Strategy: Take note of the two Fire Antiques; they are much stronger than previous ones you’ve fought. Eliminate them first, even if Unrest eventually revives them. It’ll take him two turns to do so, offering you some time to focus attention on the big guy. Unrest can attack characters behind it, which is a pain, but the main problem is that he is floating, making it hard to target up close. Go for its feet. He usually stays in the center of the arena and his shadow isn’t very big, so you’ll be using more Light attacks than Dark ones. For defeating this boss, you receive a TYRANT SLAYER. Watch a scene involving Allegretto and Beat then start walking back down the First Floor. The fastest route is as follows: Take the pink ramp down to 6F. Once there, head east and use the ramp at the end to get to 5F. On 5F, go north and descend the next pink ramp to reach 4F. Head north again and take the next pink ramp back down to 3F. Go straight down to 2F using the connected ramp. On 2F, head north. Use the next pink ramp to reach the First Floor. First Floor Tower - Base Hourglass Road Tower Top - Core BOSS >> Waltz, Ruined Body (Legato) Strategy: Your best bet is to create a triangle offense using a tank, a healer, and a ranged attacker. Poisoning Waltz helps, too. Ruined Body is a giant target that uses some very deadly attacks. In particular, Blood Sink deals up to 6300-damage and also lowers the stats of the person hit. Mortal Cleave is a nasty three-hit attack that causes around 8000-damage. Make sure to use Clovers or Viola’s Heal Arrow consistently to keep the party in good shape. Since Ruined Body is such a big target, his shadow covers a lot of ground. Waltz uses this to his advantage to pull off a flurry of Dark attacks. When the two are clustered together, hit them both at once; otherwise spread out and tackle each one separately. You may be accustomed to using Special Attacks after every turn, but it’s important to save your Echoes to build up Harmony Chains. Linking together three Special Attacks can deal insane amounts of damage in one turn, which makes depleting both bosses’ HP a cakewalk. Ruined Body is slow so you should be able to guard against most of its predictable attacks. For your heroic efforts, the party receives VELMUNGDD’S LUST and a ton of EXP and gold. After a brief scene, you also get the HERO’S CREST -- an item that allows entry into the secret dungeon you found earlier in Noise Dune’s Oasis. Use the Save Point (final one) in the middle of the arena and consider your options: Either enter the portal to complete the game, or visit the secret dungeon first. The advantage of visiting the optional dungeon now is gaining Party Level 6 before fighting the final boss. That, and of course, for the experience and treasure it offers. Should you choose to visit the secret dungeon, refer to the Extras page - Mysterious Unison Guide.
When you are ready to complete the game, approach the purple portal at the top of the arena to trigger a scene that immediately begins the Final Chapter. FINAL CHAPTER: HEAVEN’S MIRROR Scenes continue in a post-apocalyptic world and the party is stunned to find out whom they must fight. BOSS >> ???? Strategy: After the last boss fight, this will feel like a formality. If you chose to visit the secret dungeon beforehand, your party will be at ridiculously high levels and probably take this boss out in just a few moves. Either way, the boss uses familiar Specials as well as few new ones. Pala is a weak attack that inflicts Burst on those hit. Whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on your fighting style. There is very little shade in the arena; the moving clouds provide some, but aren’t reliable. Surround the boss and use Harmony Chains non-stop. Toss Heart Clovers or Spade Clovers when needed, and of course use Viola’s trusty Heal Arrow. Immediately following the boss’s defeat, you will be prompted to save your CLEARED GAME DATA. Do so, if you ever want to re-play the game in “Encore” mode. Encore playthroughs offer new treasures, trading quests, sessions, etc. but naturally, enemies will be a lot tougher, too. After saving your Cleared Game Data, cutscenes and preliminary end credits play out, followed by more scenes and the remaining credits. You’ll also see a weird movie involving a snail and a mouse after the “Fin” logo pops up. In total, the closing sequence runs about 45-minutes and will most likely leave you scratching your head (or laughing out loud)... Thus ends “Eternal Sonata” playthrough #1. Congratulations! To replay in Encore mode, go to the title screen and load your Cleared Game file (a blue ribbon on the left distinguishes it from any other saved game files). When prompted, click “New Game” and enjoy a brand new experience. END WALKTHROUGH.
